QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) I couldn't tell if TD washed its hands of the intrigue over Marty's daughter or kept that story line warm on the backburner. Seems like there wouldn't be enough time to cover that in the last hour. I think the story of his daughter will be resolved in the final episode.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) I saw a few 91s/92s but surely he's better than that. Right? Well it is the first start of the spring…..He used to throw like 95 consistently. We shall see.

Over/under on Boggs as closer by 6/1? Then Goldberg in 2015

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 2, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) Lindstrom hasn't been a closer for a few years, so why try again with him? He closed with Houston one year, then lost the job. Strictly a set up guy now. I think he and Boggs should be fighting for the same roster spot, but they will both probably go North in April. I don't get the Boggs' signing. How do you not get the Boggs signing? He has great stuff and Don Cooper is the Sox pitching coach. Do you understand the Scott Downs signing? How about the Ronald Belisario one? There is no reason not to do what the Sox are doing with these relievers. Hopefully Lindstrom, Downs, and Boggs are all good and they can be traded by July. I'm pretty sure that's the plan. -
I think they will win between 72-77 games. I want to see big years out of the young new core. The White Sox have a lot of trade pieces though and that actually really excites me. Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Adam Dunn, John Danks, Mitchell Boggs, Ronald Belisario, Matt Lindstrom, Nate Jones, and Scott Downs are all guys that could be moved to further enhance the system throughout the year. Pretty exciting possibility actually.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Stop listening to Bruce Levine. ...about anything. Yeah I generally agree about Levine. However, I was wondering about the context of the discussion. I missed the whole first part. Are they interested? Should they be interested? What was the context of the information.

I was listening to Bruce Levine on with Hub Arkush tonight briefly and Bruce was talking about the Sox having some interest in Mike Leake from Cincinnati. Did anyone hear this or know anything about it?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) I can't seem to find the catch-all thread, but Adam Dunn was invited to the Oscars for investing in the production company that made Dallas Buyers Club, and he has a small non-speaking role. Merkin confirmed on Twitter that the team has allowed him to attend. http://nypost.com/2014/02/25/why-adam-dunn...-to-the-oscars/ Where is The Ultimate Champion? He needs to get in this thread and get angry that Dunn has the nerve to attend the Oscars instead of getting better at baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Susan SlusserVerified account @susanslusser It sounds as if the #Athletics may be adding INF Jake Elmore, designated by #WhiteSox yesterday. Athletics To Designate Parrino, May Acquire Elmore By Jeff Todd [February 27, 2014 at 10:11am CST] 10:14am: Oakland may be acquiring infielder Jake Elmore from the White Sox, tweets Slusser. Elmore was designated by Chicago yesterday. 10:11am: The Athletics will soon announce that utilityman Andy Parrino has been designated for assignment, tweets Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. As Slusser notes, that means that a corresponding move is set to take place. Parrino, 28, has seen 229 MLB plate appearances over the last three years with the A's and Padres. His cumulative line stands at a meager .186/.295/.242. Though he also struggled at the Triple-A level last year with Oakland, he had previously shown an ability to get on base and provide some pop at the upper tiers of the minors. Parrino's primary appeal, however, lies in his versatility: he has appeared at short, second, thirtd, and both corner outfield positions during his short big league tenure.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Avisail should be batting 3 or 5 for the rest of his career. Putting him in the 2 hole is stupid. He would get more at bats in the 2 hole though. I generally agree that he should be in a run producing "spot" but the "best player in the 2 hole argument" is interesting.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) If Garcia bats 2nd, it's not because he should be batting second, it's because there's absolutely nobody else in the lineup that is even remotely qualified for that spot. In the long run, Garcia needs to be batting 3rd and Abreu 4th. Not necessarily. Many people believe that a team's best hitter should hit 2nd in a lineup. It's not surprising to me that a team with Rick Hahn as its GM would adopt this line of thinking though.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) I think signing Cleto may be the precursor to a potential Petricka trade. Petricka is young, has had success in the minors, good pedigree, yet somewhat expendable. Worth noting the Yankees drafted him out of high school, not that I think a Yankees trade is imminent. Do you think Kenny Williams is still obsessed with Dellin Betances? He had kind of a bounceback year last year I suppose. Just curious.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) You guys severely underrate Murphy. Yes to this. Many people are underrating Murphy. He's 22 and much better than anything in the Sox system currently. I am not really sure why people keep comparing him to Phegley. Kind of different players.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 07:00 AM) Did you really just start a gloat thread over something they might look at? I mean I'm not even against it but good god man. Well in his defense, it would have gone in the catch all.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Cleto has a huge arm, but struggles to get pitches into the strike zone. Cleto throws 100 mph.

QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Gene, any codes for Saturday August 31st (TLR bobblehead)? Didn't see them on the special events page Any truth to the rumor that the TLR bobblehead is of him drunk and asleep at a stoplight?

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Seth Meyers...not a good start. You can only smile and pause for laughs so much. I forgot he took that gig. Fallon isn't funny either though. Craig Ferguson is the best in late night and even he doesn't give a s*** anymore.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) I just don't think organizational depth is a reason to sell low. That was the rationale to give Quentin to the Padres, for example. I agree with this. I don't think obtaining a 22 year old that can be seen as a starting catcher with 6 years of control for Gordon Beckham is necessarily selling low.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) I've read that Jets are really interested. That Jets thing sounds like an agent plant to me. Jets have to stick with Geno as the starter. I bet McCown is back with Bears for a lot cheaper than most think.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) It would really be selling low on Beckham (who showed some improvement with the bat) to trade him for one of these backup catchers, none of whom is a top prospect. Keppinger? Fine. It would also hurt our D a lot for Keppinger to play 2B. I think Murphy is better than any catcher in the Sox org. The Sox have potentially 3 guys that could replace Beckham in the next 1-2 years. Keppinger playing 2B for now would be fine because the Sox are going to be bad this year. The only way to deal Keppinger is by allowing him to play vs LHP, hoping that he hits, and then dealing him.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Interesting. He'll be toeing the line of his weakness and strength there. Not that it's a bad thing, but we should be jam packed in AAA with MLB talent (role players, bench players, guys with potential, etc.). Especially if Davidson doesn't break with the team. INF - Davidson, Semien, Sanchez, L. Garcia, OF - Mitchell, L. Garcia, perhaps Danks, perhaps Thompson, Tekotte. Lots of decisions to make all over the place for Hahn and the front office. I think Leury will be on the team. Hahn has mentioned him twice this offseason referring to him pinch running in later innings. I will be annoyed If Garcia spends the majority of the season in the minors while Konerko is on the ML roster.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) The Cubs series is the weekend of the NFL Draft so not only will I not be attending a game, I will most likely not watch either. I hate that scheduling quirk this year. My mistake. Thursday is the only day affected by it.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) If it makes you feel better Saturday May 24th, Chris Sale bobblehead day will be the first pick in my Dad's draft (OD not included). Discount codes do not happen for Yankees games. Everyone see the Cubs prices? Absolutely ridiculous. Our seats in section 127 are $111 a ticket. The Cubs series is the weekend of the NFL Draft so not only will I not be attending a game, I will most likely not watch either. I hate that scheduling quirk this year.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) The best option has to be Murphy. FanGraphs ranked him the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees system and he is the youngest (at 22). By far, the most potential and a legit starting catching prospect. I am not sure Beckham alone could get the deal done. But both teams dealing from a position of strength. We would all love to dump Keppinger but personally, I'd deal Beckham straight up for JR Murphy. Sox could then just play Keppinger at 2B for the time being with Semien taking over at some point soon. I don't think Gordon will be able to hold off Sanchez, Johnson, and Semien for much longer anyway.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Would the sox have had any interest in the Cuban SS that the Dodgers just signed? Not at that price. He's all glove. We already have Leury Garcia for a lot cheaper.

I can't go to Opening Day because of work. If they start PK at 1B, I'll be glad that I wasn't there. Nolasco is starting. It should be Abreu and Dunn vs the RHP.
