QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) I think to a large extent you are right. Historically they have drawn well even when bad. I also think they thought they would be back to the 80-85 win range by now. Disagree. I always heard 2015 as the realistic date to start winning. It doesn't do them any good to win between 80-85 games. If they said that then it is lip service. They want high draft picks. They probably wish that they were bad enough to pick 1st instead of 4th this year. I don't really understand why people think the plan isn't working. They need pitching but they are loaded with some of the best hitting prospects in the game. I do think that Epstein undervalued how bad their farm system was though. They had pretty much nothing in the system when he took over other than Baez and Vogelbach. They will be godawful this year and hope that Castro and Rizzo are better. Cubs fans will most likely see Bryant and Baez this year too. I would say that next year (2015) will be the year that they hope to be around .500 and traject upward from that point. If the stadium gets done and they get a new tv deal they will be back spending in the $150 million range. This year will most likely be rough for the major league team though. Real rough.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) Good thing for ND they don't really give a f*** what some random guy in North Dakota does or doesn't buy. It's the truth. They also promote the fact that they believe in a mythical figure. If you truly believe in what is taught in some of those "theology" classes, then you may as well believe in Santa and the Easer Bunny as well. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Petrino will burn Louisville and they deserve it when it happens again. He has a $10 million buyout. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) That doesnt say anything that contradicts what I said. The Sox were in on him from day 1 and the contract offered was exactly in the range of what I was told and mentioned on this site. Rock, you got anything on Tanaka?
-
There are some interesting nuggets about Tanaka in Michael Sneed's Sun Times column today. I don't know if it's Kenny being Kenny or what but it's definitely interesting. http://www.suntimes.com/news/sneed/2484383...ll-of-fame.html

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) LOL "Steroids weren't illegal!" ORLY? Wonder if the DEA would agree with that. I definitely agree with his premise though. There are many players in the HOF that have cheated in some way or another. It impossible to know who used and who did not. You can't just pick and choose. The whole process is pretty stupid. I am looking forward to 2015 to see if Craig Biggio can have a really good season so that he gets in...oh wait. Frank Thomas is the reason why I am a White Sox fan and I am happy for him but the Baseball Hall of Fame and the process of election is a f***ing joke. You are either a hall of famer or you aren't.

Well here is an interesting bit of news: Luke Stuckmeyer @LukeStuckmeyer 3m Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will meet with the #Cubs & #WhiteSox this week...likely in Chicago.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 6, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Interesting why? Anywhere in the 5-10 range seems very reasonable to me. Actually #7 is exactly where I have him on my list at the moment. Also I like Jacob May getting into the top 10. Currently I have him at #11 and am very interested to see how he does this season. I guess I just value ceiling more than most people. I also don't think Jose Abreu should be considered a prospect though.

Baseball America released their list of Top 30 White Sox prospects today. I don't have the entire transcript and I'm old school and still purchase the Prospect Handbook anyway, but this is tweet is interesting from Daryl Van Schouwen. Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 3m #WhiteSox top prospects, per Baseball America: 1 Abreu 2 EJohnson 3 Anderson 4 Davidson 5 Semien 6 MJohnson 7 Hawkins 8Thompson 9Beck 10 May Having Hawkins at #7 is very interesting.

Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 2m #WhiteSox have claimed LHP Eric Surkamp off waivers from SF Giants. But they also lost Brent Morel to #BlueJays on waivers. Someone create the Brent Morel Appreciation Thread

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
Y2Jimmy0 replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not sure if this was already posted but it's pretty funny. Matt Davidson was doing an interview with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar and Reed happened to be in the background working out. Pretty funny stuff. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 01:16 AM) My niece and nephew both have Downs Syndrome, so I didn't like it. But I'm not a mod here and I am not going to report it either. I can't force people to not make jokes about mentally challenged people, only distance myself from them. Not that this is what I want to turn this thread into but are they both from the same family? Like did your brother or sister happen to have 2 children with Down Syndrome or is it different parents? Just curious because you don't see it that often.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 02:30 AM) Trea Turner needs to have a great season, but not so great that he goes 2. I hope he has a great season so that he goes #2. That would ensure that the Sox could draft Jeff Hoffman. Talk about a nasty rotation.
-
Like some others have stated, Nate Jones should be the closer. Hope that pitches awesome and that you can them deal him for a nice haul with some controlled years left. I like Nate Jones. I think Daniel Webb is the closer of the future though and I like selling high on relievers. That would be my goal with Jones.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) I would guess Dunn is sent packing. His presence represents the recent failures of the team, and without his departure, I feel like the FO can't truly sell this team as a fresh look...to the majority of the fanbase. The same fan base that doesn't watch the team play in person? I wouldn't be making moves to appease the fan base because fans are generally stupid. I don't expect Dunn to be gone. Nobody is going to take Dunn's entire salary and it doesn't make sense to pay part of the contract to get a C rated prospect in return. In my opinion, the only option is to let Dunn play in the first half and hope that he hits enough homers to deal him at the deadline. It's not like he's blocking someone.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Yeah, that's not funny. I thought we would make it through the whole thread without seeing this. Ehh. I am a Special Education teacher and I'm not really offended. It is what it is though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Wait...WHAT? Justin Upton.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Are you implying another bullpen move? I don't doubt it. I think we need at least one more bullpen arm I would probably wait for the next bullpen move though. There is a chance that they can sign someone pretty cheap. There are a lot of guys with closing experience who are going to have to settle most likely (Hanrahan, Bailey, Madson, just to name a few)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) Gotta be catcher. You would think that is the biggest need area, but maybe it's someone like Nick Franklin in Seattle. Seattle has a logjam that they have to fix soon. It was said that many teams were interested in Ackley and Franklin. Time will tell I guess.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Still think there is another move coming. Like at some point today? Or just in the near future? Thanks for the info. I kind of assumed there may be a few more moves in general.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) We're aimed at the future with an eye towards being digestible, not-vomitous-bad in the present And Scott Downs and Matt Lindstrom are both guys that can be dealt at the trade deadline to a contending team.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) Heath seems the likeliest to go. He definitely does. Isn't McDade still on the roster too for some reason?

2013-14 off season player movement thread
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) Thats my point, Choo cannot go to the Yankees and say "Well, someone out there is going to offer me more than you" because more than likely, that isnt true. Cano could go to the Mariners and say "weeeeell the yankees are going to offer me 25 million more" and it would be believable. If I were the Yankees I would go hardline on Boras/Choo. 7/140, take it or leave it. That deal was offered before Beltran signed. They wouldn't do that anymore. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) The only tweets regarding Downs to the Sox are that Blake Harrison and SoxNet asking if there is anything to it. He definitely seems like the right guy though. It's most likely true. That guy most likely knows Downs or someone that would know. He'd have no reason to make up the White Sox as the connecting team, in my opinion. Nice signing. Hopefully, it's a 1 year deal with an option and he can be traded at the trade deadline.
