  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Ha, we are in 100% agreement. I would add Phegley and Viciedo to the group I hope succeeds in a game. I find myself rooting hard for the Marlins and Astros of late as well. Yeah we are on the same page. Obviously, if I am watching a game I want them to win at the time. I think it's second nature. But man the Cubs are creeping up soon on that 3rd pick. Getting that 3rd pick is just pretty important in my opinion. Not just for the best chance at talent at that spot but because of the additional money you are allowed to spend.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) I watch every single game beginning to end unless the Sox are losing 13-0 by the 5th inning. They had the 1st winning homestand in 3 months, that helps enjoyment level. Love the starting pitching. It's tough for me now. I don't want them to win. I want the 3rd pick in June minimum. They can't f*** up this fantastic opportunity by falling down to the 5-8 range draft pick wise. Ideally, Garcia and Beckham will do well, Dunn will hit bombs, Starting pitchers pitch well, and then Axelrod blows the game. That's my ideal scenario right now. God that sounds horrible.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Hopefully they reunite Hawk and DJ. I don't know why ESPN hired Singeton. Or why he'd leave a cushy Sunday Night Baseball gig. DJ is awful too. Hopefully they hire a young, professional PBP guy and keep Steve Stone as the analyst. Not a chance though.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) Upton would be awesome but come on, she is far too busy with her modeling career at this point. Lets be realistic about it. Bruce Willis is probably a better choice. Have you seen Die Hard? He would be able to show them how to run across glass and shoot guns while jumping out of windows. US Cellular would never be the same. Willis would have all the players hitting barefoot though. Help or hurt?
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) So now the question is.....which teammate did she screw? If they would've hired Dave Martinez as Manager, this would be a much easier question to answer.
  6. We're The Millers is hilarious.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Speaking of first basemen, Justin Morneau was put on waivers. Konerko is on waivers as well.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 13, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) Cespedes can get you wins on the basepaths and on defense, something this guy won't do. He has one tool - his bat - and it has to pan out or he's completely useless. Cespedes can have a down year at the plate (96 wRC+ this year) but still become a 2 WAR player (1.6 WAR so far, on track for 2.3/2.4 per Steamer/ZiPs) Well he has 2 + tools. Hit and Power.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) 70/70 on the hit tools is like Miguel Cabrera. Were those his current grades or his ceilings? Well he's 26 and has played there for awhile so I am assuming that those are his current grades.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) YES...but, that's probably not the future closer of the White Sox, and not good enough to deal Jones/Reed for prospects if the pitcher replacing them isn't justifiably considered better. Disagree. You always sell high on young closers,in my opinion. Especially when you can receive impact position players in return.
  11. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Why? Morneau hates the Sox. There was a reported story from a few years back when the Sox got Griffey JR. Morneau saw KW in the parking lot and shouted, "What, Lou Gehrig wasn't available?". I personally have no interest in Morneau anyway. His concussion history scares the hell out of me. Also, why are people convinced that the Sox are going to turn around and overpay for big name free agents this offseason? It's just not going to happen and I think many on this board are going to be very upset. Do people really want the Morales, Granderson's, McCanns, or Corey Harts of the world on multiyear deals? They are in their 30's. It just id not smart business. Rick Hahn knows better than this.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) I'm saying I like the trade and like Hahn. I wish you'd read my takes closely and not just get lost in my utter dislike for Rios. Now, Alexei is next to deal. I'd expect we get 2 prospects, hopefully at least one is a real good one. Lexi is not getting any younger. Already the pop is gone in his home run stroke apparently. I just think he's Jose Guillen II. Has a lot of talent and very very very little desire. I don't like players like that. Rios has never been considered the complete clubhouse cancer and general f***bag that Guillen was though. Not really fair.
  13. Dan Hayes and others still seem to think that the PTBNL will be Garcia. Is there any chance that the PTBNL has anything to do with the pool of players the Cubs are looking at? Could that be why we have to wait?
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Viciedo probably wasn't going to be batting 8th. Order probably got rearranged when Danks was put in there. The lineup that I saw earlier had Viciedo in the 8th spot. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 24m CWS Game 1 pic.twitter.com/NpmpD45WKR View photo
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I'm sure his thumb is still bugging him. I'm glad he was scratched. I hate Viciedo hitting 8th. He wasn't going to see any pitches with Flowers behind him.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) He always was. I heard an interview with Robin, he doesn't know what is going on with Rios' situation and doesn't want to know unless he is being moved. It would be interesting to see where Garcia was at the moment. That would be the indication about what was going to happen. Viciedo has been scratched in favor of Danks though. All the beat writers said they'd know what happened prior to Game 1. Strange.
  17. TR Sullivan ‏@Sullivan_Ranger 1m Major League sources, "don't see it" as far as a trade between the Rangers and White Sox involving Rios
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:11 AM) For all we know, it may be Hahn doing this too. He may want a 6-12 plus another, or 3 lower level guys, or whatever. It's just unbelievable that a deal hasn't been consummated yet because it really, really makes a lot of sense for both parties. It is interesting that the lineup hasn't been posted for a 1:10 start time today though.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:47 AM) With pitching so much of the focus, it's really hard to acquire a guy who, for the most part, strikes out, walks, or homers. You are right. Dunn has always been one of my favorite players and I have actively defended him and that style of play on this board but he has really stretched the acceptable levels of a true 3 outcome player while in a Sox uniform.
  20. JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 7m Chance that the #White Sox trade Alex Rios to the #Rangers today "smaller than a bread basket" according to a source involved in trade talks FWIW. Bowden is a clown though.
  21. Dunn has cleared waivers. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 2m Adam Dunn clears waivers, eligible to be traded anywhere. he'll make nearly $20M thru '14 but is hot http://cbsprt.co/1exCcIn
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Yeah, definitely, I don't have any information to suggest that Garcia wasn't the best guy available, so I'll give Hahn the benefit of the doubt. It just really seemed like we were in a position to get a Garin Cecchini or Luis Sardinas or something, so I was disappointed. At least we didn't get Will Middlebrooks If Cecchini was in our system and Semien was in Boston would their standing as top 100 guys be reversed? I just think it's funny. Semien has performed the same if not better than Cecchini but everyone was clamoring for him in a Peavy deal like he's something we have never had before.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) Yup, Tekotte called up according to Bruce Levine Levine said it's a new guy named Brett Tekotte coming up. Never heard of him. Hopefully, he's better than Blake Tekotte.
  24. Rangers Claim Rios – Trade Unlikley Major League sources have confirmed that the Rangers claimed White Sox OF Alex Rios on trade waivers. The Rangers have until tomorrow to complete a trade for Rios, but sources say a deal is not likely. The two sides had multiple discussions before the non-waiver trade deadline but could not a agree on a deal. The White Sox were asking for Pitcher Martin Perez, Pitcher Luke Jackson and Infielder Rougned Odor – the Rangers were not interested in parting with those players for Rios. In other trade news: former Ranger infielder Michael Young has cleared waivers. The Rangers discussed trading for Young before the Non-Waiver deadline in July, but there were significant differences among the baseball Rangers baseball personel about that potentional acquisition and they never got close to making a deal for Young. The Rangers are still hoping that Lance Berkman will be able to return to the lineup in the next week to 10 days. More on the website later. This was on TR Sullivan's twitter account. TR Sullivan ‏@Sullivan_Ranger 2m Rangers Claim Rios - Trade Unlikley http://wp.me/p1rXwL-8WMY I would actually take 1 of Odor or Jackson in a heartbeat.
