QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:31 AM) Kid's got quite the power and bat speed. Did seem like he had a lot of movement in that whole set-up though. Obviously, nobody is happy with the way Hawkin's year has gone but he absolutely destroyed that baseball last night. Kid has serious power.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) He seems like one of the really high ceiling guys in the system, but he has a long way to get there. He could also be a guy who washes out and never makes it to AA. Totally different guy but Braulio Ortiz is one of my favorite guys in the system now.

Jim Hendry is at the Cell most likely scouting Rios for the Yankees. I don't think Rios would accept deal to NYY however even if the White Sox did want something of theirs. Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan 6m Jim Hendry at Cell for Sox-Tigers, accd to @M_Montemurro Yanks could be looking at Rios if Soriano doesn't happen.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Red Sox to be "aggressive" at the trading deadline: http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2013...ardo-bud-norris Webster, Gecchini, Brentz, and Vinicio way too much for Peavy and Lindstrom? -
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) I read in the Tribune that te Cubs were paying most of the salary for both years. Yankees are only paying like $6 million total out of the $24 million left.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) I'm reading that the Dodgers have dropped out of the Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez pursuit. Odd. Does this mean that the Cubs are now the most likely team to land him? For the amount of money that he is asking for, I would imagine that the Cubs are the favorites if Dodgers truly are out.

Sounds like Cubs are also close to sending Soriano to the Yankees. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/sor...z0N9Kn8CCldxIEK

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah, I don't know why they would cut something out. I remember back in spring training Bell mentioned a pitcher that retired that morning, and when the interview hit the podcast, they cut it out. So maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe he said something that he shouldn't have and somebody above him had that part of the interview cut out for the podcast so it can't be rebroadcasted. I missed it live this weekend, so I really don't know if he said anything that was questionable. Well he didn't use any foul language. He did question people that think Hawkins should move to Kannapolis and mentioned Keith Law by name saying those people "don't know what they are talking about".

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Late to the conversation, but the thing about the difference between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem... While I can see the difference in pitching might be negligible, I look at it from a confidence standpoint. He's going back to Winston-Salem next year. There's no way he can go to Birmingham to start next season. So if he would have started at Kanny, they could have still promoted him to W-S in 2014, where he feels like he's moving up, rather than staying in the same place---which could affect his confidence and attitude. It should have been explained when he went W-S in late 2012 that he was only going there to get more at-bats, but he'll be at Kanny in 2013. But what's done is done now. Hopefully Hawkins is an improved player next year. BTW, the podcast version of the Bell interview cut out the part where they talked about Hawkins. I don't think that's an accident. The Rongey interview from White Sox weekly? Really? That's weird. Rongey asked about it because he said he'd been getting texts and messages for weeks to ask about Hawkins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) That is a one in a million shot. I love the reaction of the guy next to her. Think that's the best part.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

Supposedly the Giants have offered packages built around CF Gary Brown and C Andrew Susak to the Cubs for Garza, but the Cubs have turned them down. -
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) I think once we sell off we wrap of that #1 pick, the season will no longer be about winning games but player development at the major league level. I don't think the Sox can get worse than Houston is honestly. I actually think Miami will be better in 2nd half with all of their young guys playing. Sox could overtake Miami for #2 pick. FWIW, If the Sox did get the #1 pick, would they be willing to be a crazy bonus for the #1 guy?

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) Two of those pieces were supposedly Sardinas and Luke Jackson, both in the CAL league so the Sox should be familiar with them. It actually wasn't Luke Jackson. It was Olt, Sardinas, CJ Edwards, and Neil Ramirez. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) Wilkins has hit 4 HR in 3 games, with the ASB in the middle. His hot streak has his wRC+ up to 110. Some peripherals still have to even out (K's a tad high, walks a tad low compared to career averages), but it looks like he is going to figure out AAA and take advantage of a small ballpark. OPS vs L - .760 OPS vs R - .783 Any chance Wilkins is a September call-up? Maybe PK goes to a contender in August and they call him up? Or should they just wait?

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Kind of difficult to rate that deal without knowing who the other Cub is. Not really. It wasn't Castro or Rizzo. Those are really only 2 ML pieces that matter. It was speculated that it could have been Dejesus, Schierholtz, or even James Russell. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Since when is Garza this must-have ace? That would have been an incredible deal for the Cubs. That's one hell of a deal. It was speculated that the other play was Schierholtz or James Russell going to Texas.

Here was the supposed deal for Garza. Would have been a nice deal for the Cubs and it bodes well for White Sox return on Peavy in my opinion. Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 3m #Cubs-#Rangers stalled deal was Garza + another #Cub to #Rangers for Neil Ramirez, Luis Sardinas, Mike Olt, CJ Edwards per @JeffWilson_FWST

This was supposedly the package agreed upon in the Garza deal. This should bode well for the Sox trading Peavy as this is a nice haul Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 3m #Cubs-#Rangers stalled deal was Garza + another #Cub to #Rangers for Neil Ramirez, Luis Sardinas, Mike Olt, CJ Edwards per @JeffWilson_FWST -
Buddy Bell joined Rongey on White Sox weekly today. Rongey asked about Hawkins and I will try to paraphrase what Bell said. Buddy emphasized the shoulder injury a lot. Said he's still coming back from it and mentioned that he has 16 HR's and 47 RBI while missing 1 month of the season. He stated that Hawkins would have over 20 homers and 60 RBi's if he had stayed healthy. He took a shot at people that have said he should be in Kannapolis and mentioned Keith Law by name saying he has no idea what he is talking about. Bell alluded to something that many of us had mentioned. He basically said that Hawkins would learn nothing by heading back down and dominating Kannapolis. He said that part of the plan is to force Hawkins to make the necessary adjustments at Winston Salem because he could continue his bad habits and still dominate a lower level.

Has anyone heard Alex Rios' comments today about the incident last night? He questioned Robin Ventura and the way that the incident was handled. He thinks that RV sent a message to the team but Rios would have appreciated if Ventura called him into the office after the game instead of pulling him. Wow.

SI has the Sox finishing 65-97 with the 3rd pick in the draft.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) I think the return for Rios will ultimately be underwhelming therefore I think the Sox should seriously consider dealing Reed as a way to improve the overall talent haul they get back at the deadline. Guys I would like to see gone: Crain Lindstrom Peavy Rios Ramirez Dunn De Aza Reed Marty if this happens it will be a really fun two weeks. I am completely on board with trading Addison Reed. I like Reed a lot, but if they can get a great return for him they have to do it. If the White Sox trust their scouting then they may think that they can use Daniel Webb or Petricka as the closer at some point. I am always a fan of selling high on young closers.

This is a nice piece about Peavy's trade value by Jon Hey man. I think we could get lucky and receive a nice little haul for Peavy. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...the-market-star
