Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
Y2Jimmy0 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Toni Ginnetti @toniginnetti 2h Sox closing in on trading Peavy http://voices.suntimes.com/none/sox-closin...-trading-peavy/ … via @suntimes -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) He was so bad yesterday. I don't see how any GM would give up anything of value for this guy. Hate to be so negative, but Lindstrom? He's just another Boone Logan type of pitcher IMO. Just another guy. I've been sitting home all day, checking sox talk, waiting for someone to make the Boone Logan-Matt Lindstrom comparison. Everytime I see him pitch, I think of Boone Logan.

Ken Rosenthal had a snippet on the Fox Sports website today saying that the Rangers interest in Alex Rios is overblown. It appears as though SF is listening on offers for Pence as well.

Peter Gammons @pgammo 1m If what GMs say the pricetags on Peavy, Norris, Lee and Santana hold, Wednesday is going to be very quiet. -
Tom Singer @Tom_Singer 18m $12.5 million owed Rios for 2014 will not scare off #Pirates, whose share of new national TV deal will be bumped up by about $25 mil. This is Pirates writer for mlb.com

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) I think a package of Peavy and cash to the A's for Ynoa, Gray, Boyd, and Bostic would be on the high end of where I would start the talks. Not that they'd only be getting guys KW is scouting but it looks like Ynoa and Addison Russell are only guys of note on High A. He had to have been scouting Ynoa and maybe someone on the Giants team. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Jon Heyman tweeted, "Rios atop of Rangers OF list for today, Texas may wait on Pence and Stanton." I think Pence would like to stay in SF, but if they keep losing, I could see SF trading him. I posted the article. He also mentions that Sox and Rangers aren't close. We kind of knew that though.

These articles are all getting repetitive but here's another Heyman story on Rios being Texas' top target. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...giancarlo-pence

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) I think a package of Webster, Cecchini, Marrero and Britton would be a good package for Peavy and Lindstrom. I'd really like Brentz in the deal. Something like Webster, Brentz, Cecchini, and one lesser piece would be a great return in my opinion. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) He just paid $18 million for a Jeff Soptic type prospect. True but would you rather pay $18 million and get a lottery ticket relief prospect or just pay the full $24 million and have him potentially block someone else from playing through next season? It's fine. It is a sunk cost. Junior Lake isn't that good but he can now go to LF every day until Kris Bryant is ready to play there.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Gregor says Sox are pushing Dunn. Gerry Fraley @gfraley 2h Rangers have multiple scouts at ChiSox game today. Alex ``One Speed'' Rios being watched, and White Sox pushing Adam Dunn, too.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) There is no debate that Peavy and Rios are better players with better contracts than Garza and Soriano No but there is a debate as to whether a lot of the contenders can pay those future salaries. Peavy at $14.5 next year is below market value but it's still not a price that Arizona, Colorado, Baltimore, and some teams want to pay. Luckily, it sounds like Boston and St. Louis are involved. As far as Rios goes, while $12.5 million for him next year is market value, a team like Pittsburgh may have trouble taking that one. If the Sox are going to eat $$ then they need better players in return. I think that's what makes this so difficult. I do think we see action soon though. Hahn is not an idiot.

Sox turn down trade offer for Alexei from Cardinals
Y2Jimmy0 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Basically, Alexei is right at the top of the list of "guys who, if we trade, makes it inevitable that 2014 is a rebuilding season". He's about the most difficult guy on our roster to replace next year. That means the price for Alexei should be high, with enough return to warrant "Throwing in the towel for next year despite a solid pitching staff". Good point Balta. Personally, I don't care how they replace Alexei because I don't think the Sox can compete next year. Those of you who are in the competing in 2014 crowd, it is understandable why you wouldn't want to dump Ramirez. I really hope they can get a useful piece or two and dump the salary personally though. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:31 AM) Kid's got quite the power and bat speed. Did seem like he had a lot of movement in that whole set-up though. Obviously, nobody is happy with the way Hawkin's year has gone but he absolutely destroyed that baseball last night. Kid has serious power.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) He seems like one of the really high ceiling guys in the system, but he has a long way to get there. He could also be a guy who washes out and never makes it to AA. Totally different guy but Braulio Ortiz is one of my favorite guys in the system now.

Jim Hendry is at the Cell most likely scouting Rios for the Yankees. I don't think Rios would accept deal to NYY however even if the White Sox did want something of theirs. Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan 6m Jim Hendry at Cell for Sox-Tigers, accd to @M_Montemurro Yanks could be looking at Rios if Soriano doesn't happen.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) Red Sox to be "aggressive" at the trading deadline: http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2013...ardo-bud-norris Webster, Gecchini, Brentz, and Vinicio way too much for Peavy and Lindstrom? -
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) I read in the Tribune that te Cubs were paying most of the salary for both years. Yankees are only paying like $6 million total out of the $24 million left.
-
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) I'm reading that the Dodgers have dropped out of the Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez pursuit. Odd. Does this mean that the Cubs are now the most likely team to land him? For the amount of money that he is asking for, I would imagine that the Cubs are the favorites if Dodgers truly are out.

Sounds like Cubs are also close to sending Soriano to the Yankees. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/sor...z0N9Kn8CCldxIEK

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah, I don't know why they would cut something out. I remember back in spring training Bell mentioned a pitcher that retired that morning, and when the interview hit the podcast, they cut it out. So maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe he said something that he shouldn't have and somebody above him had that part of the interview cut out for the podcast so it can't be rebroadcasted. I missed it live this weekend, so I really don't know if he said anything that was questionable. Well he didn't use any foul language. He did question people that think Hawkins should move to Kannapolis and mentioned Keith Law by name saying those people "don't know what they are talking about".
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Late to the conversation, but the thing about the difference between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem... While I can see the difference in pitching might be negligible, I look at it from a confidence standpoint. He's going back to Winston-Salem next year. There's no way he can go to Birmingham to start next season. So if he would have started at Kanny, they could have still promoted him to W-S in 2014, where he feels like he's moving up, rather than staying in the same place---which could affect his confidence and attitude. It should have been explained when he went W-S in late 2012 that he was only going there to get more at-bats, but he'll be at Kanny in 2013. But what's done is done now. Hopefully Hawkins is an improved player next year. BTW, the podcast version of the Bell interview cut out the part where they talked about Hawkins. I don't think that's an accident. The Rongey interview from White Sox weekly? Really? That's weird. Rongey asked about it because he said he'd been getting texts and messages for weeks to ask about Hawkins.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) That is a one in a million shot. I love the reaction of the guy next to her. Think that's the best part.
