  1. The price for Machado was $300 million and the Sox didn’t get there. It did seem to change their approach the following off-season though. They landed Grandal and nearly landed Wheeler. That was a big strategical shift
  2. I just don’t think they need catching. Yaz is on the roster. Him bouncing back has a higher probability than anyone they can realistically acquire imo. And backup types like McCann or Barnhart aren’t clearly better than Zavala
  3. I’m just not sure how they get another starter with a major league deal on the roster. The 13/13 rule is tough.
  4. They were not allowed to offer Manny Machado $300 million.
  5. I really don’t know. Seems they need to clear payroll but I’m not sure what they have to get in return. I don’t like them as a trade partner. I’ve heard about Phillies talks with Mick Abel involved. I’m really not sure though. My guess is that Sox would like to keep Hendriks
  6. I don’t have much interest in trading Hendriks for catching help. I hope they get a lot more than Danny Jansen if the Jays are the team.
  7. Working on it but I think this burner is correct.
  8. I published a mock draft for FutureSox today: https://soxmachine.com/2022/12/way-too-early-2023-mlb-mock-draft/
  9. I just don’t think requiring him to play home games in Charlotte to start the year is meaningful for anyone.
  10. This isn’t even a story is it? The Sox have 1 outfielder on their 40 man. Of course Colas is the front runner to start in right field. It’s fine too.
  11. What do you mean by this? Lopez was going to the bullpen regardless.
  12. They aren’t going to give Hendriks away. If they trade, I think we’ll all like the return. Yeah true. Same options remain at 2B which is why I’d play Sosa there.
  13. I don’t think their starting left fielder is on the roster yet. They’ll add someone. I just don’t know what else they’ll do
  14. I don't think Crochet was inexcusable. The organization is just short-sighted and nobody is on the same page.
  15. Kenny can still do that though. It's the same front office. By all means.
  16. I don't know. That's why I was confused. I didn't think he'd played that much first base so that's my fault.
  17. I never said to give him more time. That was a different poster. You cited a bunch of Bill James nonsense about his outfield play and then used that to prove that he's a bad first baseman. I truly don't understand what's happening right now.
  18. Vaughn will be at 1B, Eloy will likely DH. Oscar Colas will play RF and they'll add another LHH to play LF. Will it be better? I have no idea. The lineup will be more balanced and the defense will be better overall though.
  19. Where is it coming from that Vaughn is a bad first baseman? Also, it's first base. It's not that big of a deal. He has to hit. That's my bigger concern.
  20. I'm not excusing anything. He should be fired. Sox fans think Rick Hahn is the boogeyman though and he just isn't. Jerry Reinsdorf is. This is nuts and so disingenuous. I firmly believe he'll be decent-good defensively at first base because that's his position and that one he was drafted to play. How he does defensively at first base has nothing to do with how he played in the outfield.
  21. This is just not possible, man. So you're playing Vaughn in the outfield again? If you wanted to keep Abreu and trade Vaughn, that's an actual plan. Running it back isn't though.
  22. That's not what I mean. The roster assembled isn't good enough. They need to spend more money. It's the only way out. That is up to ownership though which has been my entire point.
