QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 29, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) You're right, Greg. It's nice to have a really good draft pick, but the other costs of being that bad far outweigh that one reward. And don't get it wrong, the draft pick is the ONLY bonus to being bad. Everything else can be done with good teams or at least "transitional" ones...something like what the Indians have going on, for instance. Not for long term success though. If the White Sox aren't good, nobody is going. If the Sox don't make the playoffs then I want a top 5 pick in each round. There is no reason to be mediocre. Especially with this fan base. Things I am looking forward to this year: Selling off parts, Erik Johnson starts, Trayce Thompson steadily turning into a prospect, and finishing with a top 4-5 draft pick. That's it. Those of you who are angry because you have to spend your "couch time" watching a horrible team are not thinking about what's best for this franchise at this particular time. -
Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 29, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Why would the Giants create another hole by trading Belt? Why would you guys want a guy who doesn't hit for power at first base? Isn't this the same board that writes Ravelo off as a prospect because of his lack of power? Yeah I agree. Rios and Peavy better net you a package that is worth making the deal. Peavy and Alex could both go in the offseason still. SF is not a good fit. They don't have many offensive prospects as most have elaborated. Also, didn't Peavy play for Bochy in San Diego? -
Sox Will Sell; Everyone But Sale and Konerko on Block

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 07:01 PM) I don't follow other sports this closely, but I'm pretty sure everyone thinks he's a moron. I remember him going on and on during the NBA super summer free agency period about how he'd rather have Wade over LeBron. Really? Yeah this never happened. I listen to that show almost every day. He is an arrogant douche most of the time but at least he's honest and doesn't have to use the spin of Disney and ESPN. Bernstein is infatuated with Lebron. Always has been. He never wanted anyone on the Bulls more than Lebron. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) Reed has a nice track record closing out games. Castellanos has a blank resume with no past experience. If I'm Hahn, I'm asking for more to insulate against a total bust. Huh? Nick Castellanos is going to hit in the big leagues and play 3rd base. Addison Reed is a relief pitcher. Are you kidding? If the Tigers offered us Castellanos for anyone on our roster other than Sale, I'd personally drive that player to Detroit.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) If relievers are as easy to replace as you say, no one is going to ne willing to give up much for one in a trade. But any move that makes the team better you make, including Sale. If the argument is you don't need a closer during a rebuild, you certainly don't need a ticking time bomb making meaningless starts. So that would mean Sale has to go. I never said you didn't need a closer during a rebuild. Again, you are hearing what you want to hear. I said I would trade Reed if they got what they perceived as value in return. You'd be an idiot not to trade anyone if you thought your chances of winning a world series became greater upon making the deal. That's all I was saying. Would I trade Reed for a couple of High A pitching prospects with potential? No. I would absolutely trade him for a bat or two though that Rick Hahn felt could be apart of the team's long term future. I would entertain trading Sale as well. Once I saw the offers, I would most likely turn them all down though. There are very few absolute untouchables in sports. Everyone has a price. Whether or not that price is realistic is another story though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Trading away good, young ,cheap players for prospects,is a terrible way to rebuild. I guess people around here really like guys like Nestor Molina and Simon Castro. Personally, unless the Sox see some sort of injury about to happen, guys like Reed are guys I would love to keep around. Detroit, where money is no problem, would love to have Reed, and your baseless claim of his averageness, closing out games. Bullpens are a crapshoot, but the guys you can count on every year are pretty valuable. Saying there is no reason to hang on to him is ridiculous. Obviously nobody is advocating dumping Reed for Nestor Molina or Simon Castro. If that's all you get back then you wouldn't make the trade. But let's say for example, Addison Reed nets you a guy like Matt Adams or Nick Castellanos. You would have to make that trade. He is a f***ing relief pitcher. Those guys are much much more valuable. You couldn't get either of those guys or a guy similar for Reed though so it is irrelevant. They don't have to trade Addison Reed. He's not a guy that you must keep either though. If there's an offer that "makes the team better" you make it. Guys like Reed can be replaced.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) NO NO NO. Sanchez MIGHT be more like another version of Escobar, but no way should we give them Thompson when he's looking like the most likeliest to be a starter for us in the next 2 years as far as outfielders go. It would be like when Michael Morse was the throw-in with the Reed/Olivo trade...Thompson, if he figures it out, maybe it won't happen until 4-5 years from now, but he could be an extremely valuable player and we can't just trade him like that when he has a lot more valuable to our future Sox projected teams than he does to any contenders in the present. I really like Trayce. I'd trade him for Castellanos. Castellanos is going to be a 30 HR guy and could play 3B for us if not LF. I believe he is still a top 30 prospect in all of baseball. You aren't getting him for relievers most likely. -
White Sox sign Micker Zapata for $1.6 million

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Yep. Soler, Almora, Baez, and Bryant. Want. Alcantara and Vogelbach as well. I think Alcantara will be their 2B of the future. Vogelbach can really rake and will be DHing for someone in the future. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) You don't like having your best hitter with RISP and third leading HR hitter bunting? Haha well played, sir. I don't really want anyone bunting but I know that is extreme as well. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) For the love of god call up Micah Johnson already!!!! Is anyone worried that Micah Johnson is 22 years old in A ball? He will be 23 in December. Isn't he a guy that should be moving through the system fairly quickly?

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if these two got a look after the inevitable trades of Crain/Lindstrom/Thornton. I actually think we may see Santos Rodriguez, Daniel Webb, and Simon Castro up and pitching for the White Sox. Erik Johnson also got promoted to Charlotte today. I am the exception but I will go out and see these guys pitch in August or September. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) In a BA chat yesterday, they said the Cubs have the best collection of offensive prospects in all of baseball They absolutely do. They do not have much pitching though. I saw Pierce Johnson at Kane County last weekend and he looked like a solid future 2/3 starter. There is not much else though. They will be paying free agent pitchers or using their position players to acquire pitching. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) Is still Contreras still in Pittsburgh's bullpen? I watched them about a month ago and he came in and got rocked. I also thought Neal Cotts was back in the big leagues as well. Sorry I read your post wrong. You said the 2000 team. I don't know what I was thinking.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb Sox don't have a whole lot of money to work with....roughly $2.1 million ($700K is added to the official amount, if you look at the bottom of the table). Need to continue to make inroads in the Dominican, as much as possible. Ben Badler of Baseball America still thinks the White Sox are the frontrunner for one of the top guys, Micker Zapata. I tweeted him and this is his response. Ben Badler @BenBadler 13h As of now, sticking to that prediction RT @JamesFox917 Still think White Sox have realistic shot at Micker Zapata? -
QUOTE (jthunder93 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) Tyler Danish: Tweeted "Hello Bristol" two days ago. Sammy Ayala: Still listed w/ Bristol. Keon Barnum: He's actually listed with the Kannapolis Intimidators. Danny Hayes: Still playing in the CWS. Tim Anderson is also now headed for Kanny. I asked local reporter Tim Hayes yesterday about Tyler Danish. He said he may get action in relief on Sunday. Not going to start right away because of the 95 IP this year in High School.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) Here's Micah Johnson's slash line: .338/.420/.534/.954. Right now, he's not just a speed guy, he's an all-around offensive threat at 2B. He's got 31 XBHs through the first half of the season on top of his minor league leading 55 SBs (at a 77% rate). Plus he gets on base at a high rate. If he hits like this in AA, he'd be a top 5 prospect in all of baseball, but the good news is he doesn't have to be incredibly valuable. There's plenty of room for regression in that OPS as he moves up the system for him to remain a valuable player. Also, his speed isn't going anywhere, so he should be able to sustain his SB numbers and a high BABIP even as he's promoted. No one should have him pegged at 2B on our 5 year big board just yet, but there's no reason not to be excited about him. He has the potential to be a dynamic leadoff, which is something this system hasn't produced since Ray Durham. Is anyone worried about Micah Johnson being 22 in A Ball? Now obviously he has been performing big time but at some point doesn't he need to move through the system? He's the type guy that I thought would be moving through the system really quickly. He will be 23 in December. -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Not sure why this thread was brought back considering Dunn's June. .254/.351/.571 6 HR 14 RBI in 17 games. 10/16 BB/K. OPS .923. Well most of you weren't hating on Dunn but maybe the ones that were just love to hate? The guy is improving and probably has been our best player this month. I brought it back because I asked why nobody was ragging on Konerko. Then I realized that strikeouts are worse then every other out because they look worse. Then I stopped posting about it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) His save %age was 88% last year and is 91% this year so far. I would definitely trade them Reed for Castellanos or Garcia. Not going to happen though. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) Dunn isn't even the worst player in the last 10 years. Probably not even close. I know. It's tough for him to be the worst player in White Sox history when he's not even the worst player on the current team. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) So who goes to the bullpen in July and why is that a good idea? Who cares? They will be bad. Put Axelrod in the bullpen. Start the 4 lefties and Peavy. There solved.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) According to Tim Hayes, a sports reporter in the Bristol area, Tim Anderson is indeed playing at Bristol, but not for long. Apparently a planned, short time there. Barnum I didn't know about, that's interesting. Tim Anderson confirmed to FutureSox on twitter that he is indeed starting in Kannapolis.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Mercer is their new starter, and he is better offensively than Alexi. Mercer is actually a guy that I think the Sox could get in a Ramirez deal. Pittsburgh isn't going to give you any of their top 4 prospects but they have a deep system. Tabata could definitely be had. He doesn't even play. They have Marte and McCutchen for a long time in LF/CF. Garrett Jones and Travis Snider at RF/DH. They really could use Alexei though.
