  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Chavez vs. RHP, Morel vs. LHP? (Chavez can't hit lefties at all) How many bench spots will they have though? If Chavez and Morel are both on the team, what are they going to do with the bench? Neither guy can play 2B or SS. Backup catcher, Backup OF, Morel/Chavez and another UT INF? If they don't resign Youk, they should sign Chavez and Keppinger and have a true platoon. If they can't afford that, they should just pack it in and start dealing veterans anyways.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) Thank God. From a personal perspective, Jack Hannahan would have depressed me. At a game last year against Cleveland, I told my buddy the Indians won't contend until they stop trotting out guys like Hannahan to play 3B. Seeing the name Jake Hannahan makes me pine for Eric Chavez. WOW. That would've been bad.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) https://twitter.com/PMac21/status/276111390979276800 Phil Mackey ‏@PMac21 Slow day on #MNTwins front again, aside from several meetings. I heard Twins did meet with 3B Jack Hannahan's rep yesterday. That's a relief. That makes more sense.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) With the payroll situation we have, and the pitching staff we have, I can't see the Sox investing more than minimal amount of money into a starting pitcher. SS, I agree with you. The only way it happens is if Floyd, Crain, Thornton or a combination of them gets traded.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) Makes you wonder if the Angels have plans for him given their trade of Walden yesterday. Probably not. They have Frieri and Madson for 8-9th innings.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) I also would take a look at him. When healthy he's a top 10 starter in the league. I would be fine with Jair Jurrjens as well. McCarthy is a dream scenario I think though. It is a pipe dream but if the Sox could add a 3B, McCarthy, Mike Adams, and acquire some prospects while dumping the $ owed to Crain, Thornton, and Floyd, I think that is a win.
  7. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) Heard that a guy the Sox are considering as a Floyd replacement is a certain former 1st rounder that may be non-tendered by a division rival tomorrow... Hochevar was tendered a contract by the Royals tonight.
  8. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) Maybe they are looking at him to close? Signing him may make Reed available. I like Reed and would like to see him stay, but he might be able to get the Sox a good package if traded with someone like Floyd. The Sox seem to be able to pump out relievers like no other from the minors, Reed may be expendable. I What if the White Sox traded Thornton and Crain and signed Adams? Is that counterproductive? Depends on how much money Adams wants. I bet the White Sox are a long shot with some of the other teams mentioned.
  9. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Question though: when is the last time the Sox traded a good, productive veteran player for a return (in prospects probably) that Soxtalk liked? I can't remember. Even 2 of our best deals in the CLee deal (salary space for JD & AJ + Pods + Viz) and the Freddy to Philly deal were hated. The last one I can think of was the Rowand + Gio + Haigwood deal for Thome. IIRC everyone liked that. Of course we got the best player in the deal there. The last time we sent a MLB vet for prospects that people liked was....???? My point is that we never like anything here. This "tidbit" could be about any player in any given deal. I think the generally the consensus about the Vazquez to Atlanta deal was very positive. Most could not wait to get rid of Javy and in return the Sox nabbed Tyler Flowers who had just come off of like 12 HR's in the AFL. Lillibridge was said to be about what he was, and the upside was seen as fairly high for Gilmore and Santos Rodriquez at the time.
  10. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Nov 28, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/brav...n-bj-upton.html Maybe it's just me but $15 million per year for BJ Upton is crazy. Good luck with that.
  11. With Wise, Danks, and Tekotte all being LH hitting OF's, I think De Aza is gone. Alejandro will be getting a raise and doesn't feel as comfortable in CF. I don't necessarily agree that it would be the best move but I think the writing is definitely on the wall.
  12. The Cubs have acquired right-hander Barret Loux from the Rangers in exchange for right-hander Jake Brigham and a player to be named later, the Cubs announced. Read more at http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/#occyMtLOXvpdKcI9.99 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/cubs...assignment.html Cubs acquired Barrett Loux for Jake Brigham. I don't understand why they didn't just get Loux in the first place. And that's a pretty big fall for a guy that made the NL All Star Team last year. It says in the article that Lahair will pursue an opportunity in Japan.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) Report: The Marlins broke verbal no-trade agreements with Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes I loved Buehrle when he was here, but it's tough to feel that bad. Go to Canada for a few years and earn your $48 million. Nobody else was giving him that dollar amount.
  14. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 17, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) Didn't have to look any further than the guy right above Chavez. A Chavez/Keppinger platoon would be nice if you have to go through free agency. Keppinger vs. LHP had a .923 OPS in 117 ABs Chavez vs. RHP had a .903 OPS in 245 ABs Sounds like the perfect match....Combined they'd prob make about as much as Youkilis right? Adding Keppinger also gives you a pretty good bat that can play anywhere should someone get hurt. I texted Rongey during White Sox weekly and asked him about this possibility. Chris asked Merkin about it. Merk kind of said that Keppinger was a possibility and then started talking about Carlos Sanchez because he thought that's what Chris asked. No mention of Chavez. I think Merkin misheard the question.
  15. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) johnson and reyes have injury history, and the reyes contract is brütal. Buehrle unfortunately is not a good fit anymore as the Sox already have 2 lefties. They actually will have 3 lefties in the rotation.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) Soooo, who plays 1B? Vmart and Fielder are both 1B/DH. I guess VMart is going back to catcher? He played there full time only one season in the last 5 years pretty much. Does that make Avila available? I think Martinez will DH a ton. 1. Jackson CF 2. Hunter RF Cabrera 3B 4. Fielder 1B 5. Martinez DH 6. Peralta SS 7. Avila C 8. Dirks LF 9. Infante 2B
  18. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) Josh Hamilton is to me as Ozzie Guillen is to Greg###. I'm just expressing my thoughts on the guy. That's fine as long as you are prepared to be disappointed. I just don't see the Josh Hamilton Story ending well. I hope that I am wrong.
  19. I saw Savages in the theater back when it came out. Just watched it again last night. So violent and awesome. Never got great reviews and it won't be for everyone but I loved it.
  20. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) well ya it's his fault for doing it but what I was saying is if he was not forced out of his support system with his parents then he wouldn't be spending hours in a tattoo parlor and making friends with these guys. He didn't know what to do with his free time when he was forced away from his parents so he had all this time on his hands that he ended up using in a tattoo parlor that lead him to the addiction. before having all that free time he was a family man, all his friends were family. Didn't his parents both die in a car accident? When did that occur?
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Logan Morrison reportedly being shopped now. Interesting guy for the Sox I think. Morrison is a jackass. However, I always liked his skill set. As another poster has stated already though, he has to play 1B. Not really a spot for him on the White Sox currently.
  22. QUOTE (59th street @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) Miami went for it all BIG TIME last year and it failed so they refuse to continue with the same plan. Everybody predicted that half or more of their big named free agent signings would never be around to the end of their back loaded contracts. They would either win now and sell the team or blpow it up if it failed. this is exactly what is happening. News flash: Sports teams cannot predict the future so do not believe the hype. I won't even comment on the "honesty" of the northside ownership over the years, but we disagree. Do you like it more when the Cubs lose or when the White Sox win? Why is this about the Cubs? It shouldn't be.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Mark literally took a leap of faith based on Ozzie being in Miami. Now hes in f***ing Toronto. Yeah that kind of blows for him. He is owed $48 million over the next 3 years though and was not getting close to that deal anywhere else. Also, Toronto got a few players that would never consider Toronto long term. It almost feels like a hostage situation. Such a weird trade. Toronto has a massive payroll now. Wouldn't be surprised to see Buehrle on another team next year after the Jays underachieve.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) The Indians could be shopping Cabrera, and the Cards are interested http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/pr...1cd7ac25d8.html Makes sense. Lindor is on his way. Cleveland never seems to get great returns lately though.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale Teams interested in Jeremy Affeldt were told at GM meetings that he was off board and #SFGiants were signing him to 3-year,$18 million deal Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS #cubs sign scott baker, team announces. 1 year deal Baker is that type of buy low move that the Cubs will be making. They will load up on these types of signings and hope for success. Another busy trade deadline for Theo-Jed.
