  1. Good moves in my opinion. Hawkins was raking at Kannapolis and this is a way to get him more at bats. He was probably slated to start at Winston Salem next year anyways with a great shot at finishing in Birmingham as a 19 year old. Trayce going to AAA to help for playoffs most likely. Dan Johnson will be headed to Chicago. Wouldn't be surprised to see Thompson back in AA to start the next season still though.
  2. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/brew...de-waivers.html The Brewers have placed Shaun Marcum on waivers. It should be settled at some point this afternoon. I have some reservations about Marcum pitching at the USCF but it would be an end of the year rental. I wonder if Kenny is interested, if he'd even pass through waivers, and what Milwaukee wants in return. My guess is that he doesn't get past the NL.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 01:00 PM) First start will be vs. the Sox Tuesday or Wednesday Baltimore signed Randy Wolf as well. They are cornering the market on LH starters.
  4. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) According to his fangraphs page, he doesn't draw very many walks - a 9% BB rate is decent. He also strikes out in 30% of his at bats, which indicates to me that he's misjudging a lot of pitches. That's a pretty important aspect of plate discipline, is it not? You know, judging pitches? Again, a .240 batting average with a .320 BABIP. That's what he was able to accomplish in Single A. People have him down as our #2 prospect. That's great. When I say that Kenny sucks at drafting college/high school hitters, it should go without saying that I'm talking about him and his camp. Kenny drafting them is not completely the problem though. Kenny loves those high upside guys. Reinsdorf does not like spending money. If you draft cheap high upside guys, you end up with the Mitchells, Thompsons, and Keenyn Walkers of the world.
  5. I have not seen many of these guys but here it goes. 1. Courtney Hawkins OF 2. Trayce Thompson OF 3. Erik Johnson RHP 4. Keon Barnum 1B 5. Keenyn Walker OF 6. Carlos Sanchez IF 7. Chris Beck RHP 8. Andre Rienzo RHP 9. Scott Snodgress LHP 10. Jacob Petricka RHP Notes: Molina has been disappointing. Castro may be an effective #4 starter but drops out of the top 10. I don't believe Mitchell is ever going to hit "enough". I do like some of the middle IF guys in the system though, specifically DeMichele.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) September call-ups still have to be on the 40-man roster, which is currently full, so it's very likely that the September call-ups will be limited to players that have already seen time with the Sox at some point this season. My guesses are Santiago, Danks, Axelrod, Morel, and maybe Marinez. I don't see anybody the Sox would be willing to DFA in order to bring up Johnson, Jackson, or Lopez. They can move Bruney to the 60DL so that would open one spot. If Olmedo is DFA and Bruney goes to the 60 day DL, that opens spots for Lopez and Johnson.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) I'll go with Hudson DL. And they keep 13 pitchers? I thought possibly Olmedo would be DFA and Septimo sent down. PK and Jose Lopez added to roster. Could be a couple different combos though.
  8. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) I'll assume this is sarcasm. Adam Dunn is a very unique player. His contact rate is obviously terrible if he's batting .208 and has a zillion strikeouts. But when he does hit the ball, it goes a long way (it's a good thing the back of the Skydome wasn't open...that ball might not have landed yet). I think I saw a stat last night that his career BA is around .240, so he's quite aways from that right now. But he has more HRs than anyone in baseball right now. So, no he doesn't suck at baseball, but he can be a very frustrating player to watch. 2011 seems to have been an anomoly, however the BA is still frighteningly low. I'd like to see him boost it back up to near .220, but I'm not sure that'll happen. But if he hits another 15-20 HRs this season (with some of those in key situations), we may not care as much about the BA. Definitely sarcasm. Yes sorry. It should've been in green.
  9. Bernstein just said on the score that Starlin Castro has made 28 more outs this season than Adam Dunn has. It's amazing what HR's and OBP can do for you. Oh wait, Dunn sucks at baseball. I forgot.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) Hawkins playing CF, was 0-1, BB, R, SB in his debut. All you heard around draft time was that he was a true RF profile. I hope they keep him in CF for as long as they can though.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) And if that is the debate, I can always point out Jose Bautista. Well, Danks would also have to start taking the same sauce that Bautista is taking.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) Wise was on waivers nobody claimed him so he was not wanted by any other teams and money was not the reason why. He was Designated for Assignment actually. He refused the assignment to AAA becoming a FA. Then he signed with the Sox because he lives in Charlotte.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) Not after last night. Danks belongs now. He belongs because he hit one game winning homer? I agree that he belongs but not for that reason.
  14. QUOTE (Tdog32 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) How about another catch...d wise gets the call So do we think Wise stays with the team and they go with Hudson as the only backup IF when Paul returns? I agree with not bringing up Johnson. He is out of options and definitely would be claimed on waivers.
  15. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) For sure. Like right now he hasnt made contact with a baseball in like 2 series. Then fans look at his BA near .200 and his OBP creeping towards .325 and most fans go YIKES. They aren't idiots, they just prefer a different style of baseball from the heart of the order. Yeah that's fair. This isn't last year though. As frustrating as it can get, the walks and homers are a big deal. He is going to hit 40 homers and walk 100 times. I wish his obp was more like .380 rather than creeping below .340 but people still see the strikeouts and immediately think they matter more than they actually do. It is a difference of opinion though. But an inevitable one with a player like Dunn. And we have two more years of it. Fantastic.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) also did not like progressive. just absolutely nothing special about the park. Its alot like the cell IMO Pittsburgh is absurd. everything about the park was done the right way. The upper deck behind 3rd base dugout give the best view. It was the nicest park ive been to and its not close. My girlfriend is a Pirates fan and I've been to PNC the last 3 years. That park is the best park I have ever been too by far. Used to have a minor league feel to it but now that it's mostly full, it's quite awesome. If you are staying there, hit up DeLuca's if you enjoy big breakfasts. Primanti's Bros sandwiches are really popular but they aren't my thing. Enjoy. PIttsburgh is a great town.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) I definitely didn't want him on the team last year. Of course you didn't. But my point is, even when Dunn is good he goes through periods in which he appears to be the worst player in baseball.
  18. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) Nice. Dunn was looking like the obvious choice for Comeback Player Of The Year, but as of now, Rios is probably the favorite. Alex barely cleared a .600 OPS in 570 AB - he finished with a negative 0.7 WAR. It's hard for me to support a guy who has his head way up his ass. If he gets to 40 bombs, which he will, he is comeback Player of the Year. Dunn has always been one of my favorite players. When the Sox got him I was ecstatic. I honestly think that I'd almost rather him not be on the team though sometimes. He helps the team win games but I can't deal with the amounts of stupid that a player like Dunn brings upon White Sox fans. I just don't know if I can read about Dunn being bad at baseball for the next two years. Man, I love how the internet lets the stupid be stupid with no consequence.
  19. I knew that a large segment of White Sox fans would never agree with the Dunn experience. We have two more years of hearing about it. Joy
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) Very nice start for Axelrod. 3/4 for Sanchez. Sanchez have an outside shot at a 2013 call up if he continues this pace and Beckham continues his?
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 11:24 PM) Not at all. You just won't hear about players being claimed on waivers because it's generally pretty private unless it is a very high profile name. Even then it takes some speculation - with both Rios and Manny, it was fairly obvious the Sox have claimed them both, but there was never any confirmation for either one of them until the other team just let him go (Rios) or trade negotiations stalled and the original team found it worthwhile enough just to let him go (Manny). Nobody knew that Danny Valencia, Wil Nieves, or Jose Mijares had been claimed on waivers (and the latter's a pretty damn good reliever), but they've all been claimed/traded and went through waivers pretty easily. If someone is released, then it's an actual transaction made by the organization and you are required to notify MLB of it. If there isn't a press release notifying the public of the move, it will be notated somewhere and any sports site will make note of the transaction. That's the difference. Thanks for the clarification. I just misinterpreted what you said. Fontenot is a free agent now though. I would imagine he signs with someone within the next few days.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) CF's a harder position, may as well put him there eh? I think Hawkins ends up in RF but there is no reason not to let him play CF in the minors. Trayce Thompson is a guy that most saw as having a classic RF profile too but he is supposedly playing great defense in CF in High A.
  23. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Has Friday's protest been officially responded to yet? What do we know about Liriano's injury? I saw somewhere today that MLB has denied the Angels request. Sox win. Also, Gonzalez just tweeted that Liriano will start Saturday vs Oakland. I imagine that means, Floyd Friday and Sale on Sunday.
  24. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) I'm 95% sure Kenny will sell high on Q this off-season (Assuming he doesn't completely implode here down the stretch...which is looking likely after his last few starts) I also think Liriano is back. I also think Kenny trades Quintana in the offseason. Ideally, they act like the big market team that they are and bring back Liriano and Peavy. Sale, Peavy, Liriano, Danks, RH FA/Trade. I think Floyd gets traded as well.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) That you will hear about. Good lord no. wite, is there any inside info that you are referring to about the "that you will hear about" comment?
