  1. It's not that easy though. The JUCO's are going to be flooded. This is a case by case basis. What you're describing is what the majority of guys should do. I understand why some would take the $20K and start a professional career though.
  2. Of course but it sounds like both sides are done negotiating. It made sense before for sure. 65 game schedule (10 vs division teams and 5 each vs NL division) with expanded playoffs and universal DH. Made lots of sense.
  3. Game action sure. These rookie ball guys will be at Camelback most likely though. There's no way they'll just put guys on ice for a year. If you have a well off family and hate school, it could absolutely make more sense to choose your organization now instead of waiting 3 years and hoping to get drafted while playing for free at a university.
  4. I don't think the Sox need to sign a ton of guys. They should prioritize hard-throwing college relievers that want to sign and try and snag some kids from Puerto Rico. Without Great Falls, they really don't have a need for any position players. They have a ton of young prospects that already won't have regular playing time in 2021.
  5. The biggest issue is the mistrust due to years of bad behavior from ownership. They should have been able to put everything aside and work out an agreement that makes sense for 2020. The problem is that neither side trusts the other and they're both trying to make decisions now that won't be used against them in 2021 during those labor talks.
  6. I think they should keep the draft order the same for next year or do like a lottery and switch up the top 5. I don't think you can take records from a 54 game season to determine the draft order.
  7. Some of these guys don't want to go to school. If they can afford it, get yourself in an organization now. The team can pay for your college later. It makes sense for certain guys. School isn't for everyone.
  8. I recapped the 2020 draft for the White Sox here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/13/premium-talent-the-focus-for-white-sox-in-2020-draft/ Premium talent was the focus but some trends seem to be forming for future years.
  9. This is much worse for the White Sox though. They really needed expanded playoffs.
  10. I've heard the White Sox, Marlins and Mets for Cespedes. The Sox have the most pool space. They can't trade for me. MLB isn't allowing the trading of pool space for this period and next one. They announced that during this shutdown.
  11. It wasn't weeks but Shirley wasn't being truthful about that story. They didn't just see that he was off the board and start compiling a new strategy. Kiley McDaniel mocked Kelley at 47 for a reason. I was told that the Sox and Kelley had a pre-draft deal. I didn't find out about it until after he was selected but that's what happened. They knew they were getting Kelley on Wednesday afternoon once the salary demand was met.
  12. I know that the Sox feel confident about their chances. I've heard Cespedes is still planning on doing a showcase though.
  13. Nobody that they're expected to sign, no. Colas would.
  14. There will be some juniors as well. These guys can go back to school as juniors again but they'll be a year older and entering next year's draft which already has 20 rounds worth of players. There will be some players who sign that will be a surprise. It'll be mostly seniors but I'm curious to see what happens. Clubs can offer to pay for the rest of college and supply signees with unlimited amounts of gear. That's about it other than the 20K though. I would think that relievers would be the priority. The White Sox really don't have a ton of space for position players in their system, especially without Great Falls. Mason Erla of Michigan State is interesting but I'm not sure what his plans are. Some other guys from MLB Pipeline's top 200 that weren't drafted are: Gavin Williams (ECU), Andrew Abbott (Virginia), Justin Fall (ASU), Carson Seymour (Kansas State), Tyson Guerrero (Lower Columbia CC). Here are the top seniors available: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/top-25-seniors-to-watch-in-2020-mlb-draft-undrafted-free-agent-market/ Top players available from BA: https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2020-mlb-draft-best-available-players/ Some expected names from Jonathan Mayo: https://www.mlb.com/news/2020-mlb-non-drafted-free-agents
  15. He's good. He's the best pitcher in the international class. He slots in favorably with Matthew Thompson and Andrew Dalquist. Those guys are a bit of a troika.
  16. I would go like this: 1. Luis Robert 2. Michael Kopech 3. Andrew Vaughn 4. NIck Madrigal 5. Jared Kelley 6. Garrett Crochet 7. Dane Dunning 8. Jonathan Stiever 9. Matthew Thompson 10. Andrew Dalquist 11. Norge Vera I'd slot Cespedes in at 5 if they get him.
  17. The owners haven't really budged off their percentages. They're just prolonging the time spent debating. The 72 game proposal from today is the equivalent of prorated pay for 58 games. I think the owners come up from 58 in exchange for expanded playoffs.
  18. They aren't allowed to strike. Players can sit out but they won't get paid. I don't think Manfred will pick a number. I think they'll agree on 60 games and expand the playoffs.
  19. Those guys are all included because they're all prospects.
  20. Players are prospects until they have 50 IP or 130 AB in the big leagues.
  21. Nobody else would take him without him agreeing to a deal prior. That's not how it works. Anyone who was taken with a pick is signing with the club that picked them. Teams have deals arranged before drafting players.
  22. He didn't go in the first round because he had a deal with the White Sox yesterday morning. This was always happening. I don't know the number but its' at least $3 million. Any other team that had interest, needed to beat whatever number the White Sox guaranteed or he told teams he had a deal and wasn't signing. That's how this works. Nobody else would take him without a deal agreed upon.
  23. He wasn't really the 47th pick though. He's getting over $3 million. Stack up bonuses and that's where he should have gone. He's a top 20 player.
  24. If they took him at 11, they have an agreement already. I heard from multiple people yesterday afternoon that the deal was done. I didn't believe it because I had conflicting info about Abel and I thought the Sox planted it for whatever reason. That's not true. The scouting department really wanted Garrett Crochet. They think he's a stud.
