Never a good sign when this is the 3rd post of the day and 2nd to last of evening. Didn’t even need to check the box scores to know it was a rough one.

Zavala DFA, Cronin up, Lambert to IL
Chicago White Sox replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
$20M more on Salvy, although my guess is we get $5M/year if his salary covered for a pair of C tier prospects. Should be fun paying top dollar for an over the hill catcher simply because we need a clubhouse enforcer. -
Definitely need to bump after tonight’s massacre.

Pedro didn’t build the roster though. And he’s not up there swinging the bat or throwing the pitches. He’s been telling the players exactly what they should be doing…it’s not his fault they don’t listen. Once we trade for Salvy, Pedro will have his enforcer in the clubhouse and players won’t have a choice but listen or risk a verbal beat-down from Salvy. Just need to be a bit more patient here brother.

Luis Curbelo apparently not a Chris Getz fan

It sounds like they tried trading for him at the deadline, but couldn’t agree on prospects. This reeks of the Lance situation where we ending trading for the following winter, but in this case Salvy is no longer a useful player.
-
I loved that he literally said David couldn’t hit, had no power, had no speed, and was a poor defender, but would “beat you” and seemed to imply that’s what he wanted out of our minor leaguers…lol.

That’s exactly how I took their press conferences. Now that Lynn, Graveman, Kelly, & Middleton are gone, the “culture” is mostly fixed. Just need to trade for a sub-replacement Salvy to be team captain and the positional group will be ready to battle after they go through proper off-season preparations. Rotation wise, it’s going to be some patchwork until Nastrini, Mena, Eder, etc, are ready. But no doubt Getz expects those guys to provide serious innings for us next year. I’m expecting a few reliever splashes in free agency in hopes of building a 2014/15 Royals type back-end of the bullpen. Ultimately I think we see some rebound from the main guys, but we’ll still be a 3rd place team at best despite being in the worst division. We’ll get to the end of the year and we’ll hear that despite being under .500, the season was a success as it was only Getz’s first year on the job and he’s still learning. Just got to hope that Chris doesn’t mortgage the future to get that 3rd place season.

If you hear them talk about “culture” issues, it sure seems like they are trying to blame the guys moved at the deadline. And they specifically mentioned guys being unable to stay healthy and how they plan to address it. To me, it sounds like they think this group can still win a shitty AL Central now that the cancers are all gone and with better off-season conditioning. Perhaps I’m putting too much weight on Jerry’s comments vs. Getz’s, but I truly believe they plan to roll the dice with this core next year alongside Salvy and some bridge pitching.
-
Definitely seems to be the plan. In all honesty, I don’t see how we can possibly build a semi-competent pitching for next year without major spending in free agency. I fill like we are going to see a lot of scrap-heap trades this off-season for guys who can eat innings and bridge to Nastrini, Mena, etc. Who is the modern day Ivan Nova? I fully expect two guys like that and/or C tier free agents in the mold of Severino/Montas to complete this staff.

I’m inferring from Jerry’s comments. Said we he had a great core in place and followed that by saying Moncada was finally returning to form. It’s very clear to me they think can win with this positional group with minimal changes outside of adding a catcher and some role players. I also don’t see Getz being creative enough to swing a big Yoan trade or Jerry being willing to eat his salary.
-
I’m pretty sure it was reported elsewhere that the MLB gave the Sox a waiver from having to do this as result of previous diversity hiring efforts.
-
Very excited for this news and will be updating my Patreon to support accordingly.
-
Zero chance that is the infield next year. No one is giving Moustakas or Andrus a starting job. Plus it sounds like Moncada is staying put. I think the only wild card is whether Tim sticks around. If he goes, then I could see someone like Whit brought in for 2B and Sosa sliding over to 2B. Otherwise, the resources are going towards pitching and catching IMO.

Good point…that would take away a bit of the sting, although it won’t matter if this coaching staff can’t get Dylan to figure his s%*# out.
-
Rumor is we had a trade lined up for him at the deadline before KW axed it and decided to trade Burger instead
-
Jerry did say that and then Getz confirmed that not only will Pedro be back but will also be his right-hand man.
-
I take it you didn’t listen to the press conference, because I’d expect almost none of this to happen. Grifol has already been confirmed back. Jerry mentioned that winning next year was possible because of a weak division and our “strong core” and specifically highlighted Moncada looking better. They are legit blaming this turd of a season on KW/Rick and poor clubhouse culture that was addressed by the moves made at the deadline. Sounds like they feel they have a few holes in the major league roster and need a bit more depth, but can fix this thing relatively easily. Just don’t point out that we have no pitching and a lineup full of guys who aren’t that good and/or don’t really care.
-
Given the facade we can win next year, I just realized that Dylan Cease is all but certain to be here for the next two years and then leave for nothing. Amazing how fucked we are with Jerry and this hire.

James - What is your honest assessment of this hire and press conference yesterday?
