7/15- White Sox at Braves, 6:15, Fox

Demote him! Dude had very little minor league development time, zero downside of optioning and giving him a couple months in Charlotte. -

He’s basically Podsednik without the speed or range. -

Glad Pedro has this offense primed for the second half! -

Please have a good start tonight Lynn and build up that trade value. -
2024 Starting Rotation Discussion

You realize Clevinger got $11M right? If Lynn keeps pitching even 75% of how he has lately that option is getting picked up by someone. -

Lynn has an $18M team option. If we don’t exercise, I doubt he’s back. And Kopech will probably make $4M next year (he makes $2.5M and it would be odd if he didn’t get some raise). I think that rotation is probably $50M+ which may not work out with our other commitments. -

Can we even afford that rotation? -

Which makes me feel like even JR & Hahn must realize that next year has to be a transition season. I think it’s possible that Cannon & Mena could be ready by 2025 (won’t necessarily be good, but rookies ready for their first shot). Burke is another guy that could potentially be in the SP mix, but hard to feel good about him right now given how bad his 2023 has been (he probably ends up a swingman). Everyone else seems +2 years out given where their innings load are. I think the reality is we should probably move Cease and target a young starter that better fits our timeline. Would the Giants consider dealing Kyle Harrison in a package for Cease? Add an arm with that type of ceiling & control who isn’t too far off the majors and maybe there is a way to start building a competent 2025 rotation with high potential reinforcements coming thereafter. -

But this illustrates the general problem we have. We have literally zero pitching depth in the upper minors and our payroll is going to be slashed. Rick Hahn hasn’t been able to fix 2B & RF despite being holes for multiple years…imagine him trying to patch together 3/5 of a rotation. -

For the record, Sean Burke has like a 6.70 ERA in AAA. He is not a realistic option for OD next year unless you’re punting on him as prospect and simply want someone to eat up garbage innings. -
Yup, up until they have five years of service time. Just unclear how long he’d need to be down for to claw back a year.
-
The Sox should option Kopech down to AAA to let him work through his s%*# and see if they can claw back a year of control somehow. The fact we’re still trying to make him a positive fWAR starter who can handle +160 innings when he’s 2 1/2 years from free agency is remarkable.

Merkin/Grifol..."By no means is this over"
Chicago White Sox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hopefully they both go, but this team (which is admittedly flawed) has performed at the worst case level of potential performance and that’s on Grifol. Dude is softer than a fucking pillow and has allowed the team to already quit on him. -

Pedro Grifol is such a fucking pansy. Just an incredible loser who is somehow worse at his job than a zombie Tony La Russa. Dude better get s%*#-canned as soon as the season ends. -
Lol…time flies when you’re having fun! But seriously, the real question is now more birthdays will this thread have. Hopefully next week is the last.

Bump

And Baseball America had him ranked 131. I’m not suggesting he’s a big under-slot guy (and again I really have no idea), but I think that’s more likely him being an over-slot guy.
-
I feel like he’s got to be an under-slot guy, but obviously that’s just my speculation.
-
Super exciting on Schultz. Actually pretty shocked they moved him up that high given his limited body of work, but it clearly highlights the massive potential the kid has. Really wish we had someone else cracking the back-end of the list. I really thought Mena & Ramos would be consensus top 100 guys by now.
-
Probably. Kelvin Herrera was also a really bad signing with very questionable logic from the get go. Jaime Navarro was a pretty big bust, especially when they considered going after Clemens that off-season. LaRoche should be in the discussion for how he both sucked as a player and single-handily destroyed the clubhouse in 2016. The Grandal statement is pretty ridiculous. The blocking has been bad but he has been a good framer and he actually hit well his first two years. Hell, hit bat carried us in the 2H of 2021 (his wRC+ was nearly double of James McCann that year). Yes, he has been bad in 2022 & 2023 and I’m more than open to call him a disappointment. But without question, Dallas Keuchel was a much worse free agent signing. Literally got 2.2 wins from him for $47M and he couldn’t last the duration of a three year contract. Plus he sounds like another douche in the clubhouse who blamed everyone but himself for his s%*# pitching outside of 2020.

Predict the lineup: August 1 at Texas
Chicago White Sox replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I kind of think Anderson gets moved. Grandal is a maybe if someone is desperate for a backup catcher and we’re willing to eat money. Not sure I expect a lot of other movement on the positional side. -
According to Shirley, the Sox had some guys in the organization who wanted to take Calvin Harris in the 2nd.
-
Giolito has three starts left with the Sox. Cease’s days with the Sox were numbered the moment he switched to the Boras. Enjoy them while they last cause things could get real ugly fast.

Good god what a show!

I’m guessing our 3rd round pick is under-slot as well.
