I know, it’s a legit conundrum. But my plan would be to fire Hahn in May and then re-prioritize the remaining staff to focus entirely on scouting minor league talent across a specific set of contenders. As much as that scares me, I don’t see another option when it comes to Tim & Liam.
-
Hire Mike Chernoff as President of Baseball Ops and he’ll find a guy.
-
Cease would 100% return the most if we decided to move him and then Tim. It’s hard to say without knowing what Liam looks like when he comes back. What’s very clear to me is the Sox need to bold at the deadline. We 100% have to trade Tim & Liam now vs. waiting until the off-season. They are inherently more valuable to two playoff runs and the return will reflect that. I don’t think I’d have this front office trade Cease as his value should more or less carry into the off-season. Let the new front office (hopefully) do an auction process to a larger pool of potential buyers. And my god is thinking through this stuff in April super depressing. My oldest son was finally getting into the team/sport and he’s 100% going to turn into a Cubs fan now because they aren’t a complete bunch of losers from to bottom like this s%*# show of an organization. I truly hate Rick Hahn with all my heart.

I can’t wait for the day that we never have to hear Rick’s lawyer speaking ass make excuses for poor results. I’d wager large sums of money that no GM in Big Four sports history has served in such a capacity for 10+ years and has a worse winning percentage.

Highest chase rate in the MLB with the worse bullpen in MLB

“We will control the strike zone on both sides” doesn’t seem to be coming to fruition Pedro. -
Forgot to mention, but also fire KW and hire Mike Chernoff as the head of our baseball operations. Let him hire the new GM, rebuild the development, scouting, and analytics staffs as needed, etc. Fixing this s%*# will take time as the org is rotten to the core, but the first domino is very easy. Hire a smart baseball guy from a Best in class organization and give free reign to do whatever he sees fit.

Tim only has one year left after this season correct? If so, I really don’t think you can wait until the off-season to move him. He’s inherently more valuable if he can contribute towards two playoff runs. Even more reason to fire Hahn soon and put whatever staff remains on minor league scouting. Other positional guys I would move are Grandal and Elvis (if someone will take him). I’d happily give away Benintendi but doubt there would be takers. Yoan is a tough one. Probably would be good to move him, but feel like you’d have to eat money and I’d like to see if he can maintain the flashes we saw once he returns. Eloy is a hold until the off-season at minumum. Additionally, I would hold onto Cease until the off-season and let the new GM do a legit auction process. Focus on trading Giolito, Lynn, & Clevinger at the deadline for whatever you can get. Also, trade your veteran bullpen arms for whatever you can get. No idea who fills all these major league roles given our s%*# pitching depth. Could be a bloodbath down the stretch.

It’s not even May and Fangraphs has our playoff odds at 11%. Rick Hahn should be launched to the sun immediately and then we should have the rest of the front office spend the next three months scouting minor league talent, because it’s going be selling season before you know it and we might as well start getting ready for those eventual trades now.
-
I’ve noticed the minor league game threads haven’t made it to multiple pages in like a week. Not much to get excited about across the org right now.

Because the entire rebuild came down to the players he acquired in the sell-off trades and Robert. The draft strategy heading into and during the rebuild was atrocious and has bared little fruit. Without a recurring pipeline of talent and with an unwillingness to play at the top of the free agent market, Rick hasn’t been able to augment the core he acquired. And even the primary core of prospects he was able to trade at the start of the rebuild has disappointed. The minor league development system remains weak, the pro scouting still sucks, and we continue to have one of the leanest / most pathetic analytics staffs in all of baseball. Even the pre-arb extensions well that Rick built his early brand on has completely dried up. Rick Hahn brings nothing to the table but a whole lot of lawyer speak and empty results. No other baseball org would still employ this clown, but alas here we are watching our competitive window come crashing down before our eyes. It’s truly sad to witness the mess that Jerry has made and see no actions whatsoever to right the ship. May the baseball gods take mercy on our poor souls.

Hahn’s “all the relievers” strategy continues to flame out.

AKA the Kenny Williams Jr era

The sad reality for us Sox fans is KW probably retires after this season and Jerry will end promoting Hahn to head of baseball operations to maintain “stability”. Since we rarely hire from the outside, Getz will get promoted to GM, KW Jr will get promoted to head of player development, & Haber will continue to maintain the illusion of us having an analytics department. These four and Paddy will remain the core of our front office for the next forty years because with Jerry you have a job for life and there is no doubt he’ll outlive us all.
-
It’s amazing how much this organization is held hostage by Jerry. Under no circumstance should Rick Hahn still be calling the shots. How many years of terrible decision-making and underperformance are allowed before we finally make a change? And why is KW still technically around as our head of baseball operations? What the f*** does he do other than make sure the pro-nepotism ways of this organization’s past carry forward? And don’t get me started on the international man of mystery Jeremy Haber, whose next accomplishment would almost certainly be his first. These clowns should all be long gone and yet here they are still making baffling decisions because old man Jerry plans to die with this franchise to ensure that his children inherit the most cash possible and doesn’t want to stir s%*# up too much in the meantime. Until then, we will all suffer through the last dying days of this competitive window and then get the pleasure of watching Rick sell off a few pieces before attempting another half-assed go for it strategy. We deserve so much better than bullshit, but Sox fans will continue to suffer until the reign of Jerry comes to an end.
