  1. I think Joey DeMichele has finally woken up. 4/4 on the night with a 2B & a BB.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) On phone so someone else can add details. ESpNs outside the lines is reporting that MLB intends to suspend Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, amongst others, over their connections to Biogenesis Phamaceuticals. f*** yes!
  3. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 05:57 PM) Tank could be in LF or RF next year and maybe even a DH. Rios, De Aza, Dunn (probably not but I can hope) and Konerko could all be gone in any combination. Not only is there going to be holes but we will have some money to spend. These next two years are when Hahn's plan takes shape. To reply to the OP, if our 2014 first baseman is not Dunn or Viciedo, he will come from another organization. I'll keep repeating it, but I think Morales makes perfect sense as Paulie's replacement. We need a left-handed middle of the order bat and Morales is still relatively young and hopefully shouldn't be too expensive. Plus none of the 1B types we have in AA & AAA profile as major league regulars. I have little faith in Wilkins or Black.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) That would be a classic White Sox "get him to the big leagues as soon as possible and make Balta start screaming no no no no no" kinda move. IMO, he's a kid still and the Sox are crazy if they don't treat him like that...give him a full year at AA, plan for AAA next year with a September callup (and if he Phegleys Charlotte, maybe you start talking about it earlier, or if someone gets hurt). Yeah, I agree with this. I think we're starting to see a lot of high-profile prospects across baseball get rushed to the majors, struggle immensely, and end up wasting service time developing in the pros or simply never reaching their potential. Beckham is one guy who comes to mind with us. The Mariners & Royals have a couple others I can think of off the top of my mind. Obviously there is always going to be an adjustment period in the majors, but the goal should be to limit it by giving prospects as much development time in the minors as possible. Trayce Thompson will only be 24 years on opening day of 2015. That's plenty young enough for a rookie and hopefully you'll end up a more productive player from the get-go if be spends most of 2014 in AAA.
  5. Dan McNeil is a total idiot. Asking why the Cubs aren't calling up their top prospects given that the Dodgers just called up Puig. Said unless it was a money thing, he doesn't see a reason not to bring them up and get some playing time in a losing season. Is he actually unaware of this thing called "development"?
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) To be clear, I'm not against trading Reed. Relievers are more easily replaced than any other position. But given how young he is and how cheap he currently is, I'd demand a ransom for him from a team in contention right now. And I don't think any team will be willing to meet that price. If Baltimore comes to us in July and needs a closer and is willing to give up someone like Schoop then you pull the trigger. Otherwise you keep him around as part of the core of your rebuilding team. Yeah, you pretty much only move Reed this season if someone is offering something crazy stupid for him. Otherwise, you focus on selling Crain as one of the premium relievers in baseball and Thornton as a "quality" left-handed setup man. You definitely don't want to cannabalize your own market and those two guys must go if we start selling off pieces.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) Honestly, I'd be fine with .250. With his power potential being 30+ HR and from what scouts say about his defense (it being very good), I'd be fine with him at that average provided he kept his strikeouts at 25% or lower Yeah, I'd be more than ecstatic if he was able to hit somewhere between .250 & .260 with big power and a high walk rate. Throw in strong defense in CF and you're looking at one hell of a player. I know throwing those numbers out there sounds crazy, but look at how much Trayce's plate discipline has improved this year. He's got a 14.4 BB% & 22.4 K% on the season. That's incredible improvement for a 22 year old against advanced pitching. I really do think Trayce has a chance to be something special and I still don't get why Baseball America has given him no love as his tools are off the charts.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 12:00 AM) What about his XBH, slugging, OPS? The kid isn't even 21 yet and in AAA. Power shouldn't be a concern right now, he needs get his AVG & OBP back to respectable levels and continue to work on his defense. If he's going to make it, those are the skills that will get him there. Hopefully some power comes with time. At least he's trending upward in his last 10 games: .316/.350/.395/.745.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) With that frame, it's impossible for me to believe he'd hit lower than 15-18 homers playing full-time at the big league level. He's got crazy power potential. Reminds me a lot of Chris Young actually, I just hope he can hit for better average.
  10. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) A third baseman with a career slugging percentage of .370? That's brilliant. Great plan. Take it to 'em, Steve. I'll give Steve credit, his thread has brought out some of the worst and/or most negative posters in SoxTalk history from the dead. Honestly, I've heard Score post-game callers provide more insight than this garbage. Quoting a player's "career" slugging percentage two months into their first full year in the majors just about sums up the quality of this meathead post. BTW, shouldn't you be sucking off Thesus on some Cubs message board right about now?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) Add Konerko, Beckham, De Aza and Viciedo to that list of players on the market. Trading Viciedo doesn't make much sense to me. A contender isn't going to want him and he's exactly the type of guy you give playing time to in a wasted year. The other guys sure, I just don't know who would want them right now. That could definitely change by July. I wouldn't just give away De Aza or Beckham however. I'd want something decent or else I'd hold onto to them until the offseason.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) It would be nice if Danks can go six. They need to keep Crain and Thornton fresh the next month, if you catch my drift. I'll say this much, if the Sox decide to sell, they'll have a lot of interesting players on the trade market. Peavy, Rios, Crain, Ramirez, Thornton, and possibly even Lindstrom (if he rebounds) would all be desirable. I'd probably float Addison Reed's name out there as well and see if someone is willing to offer something stupid for him.
  13. Trayce Thompson with a nice game. 2/4 with a double, 2 BBs, & 0 Ks. His final May numbers turned out real nice: 292/.423/.417/.839. So his power was way down, but his plate discipline was much better with 20:28 BB:K ratio.
  14. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) Great back to back contributions by the Danks brothers. Lets all be glad that Tyler flowers is an only child. This post just made me laugh out loud. I'm sure I'm late to the party, but I think the Sox have finally become laughably bad for me.
  15. I hope Adam Dunn rots in hell for all eternity.
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) I'm pretty sure Danks never had that good of numbers to deserve that much money Look at what Edwin Jackson just got. Even average starters gets paid a lot of money these days. If you projected even some minor improvement from Danks at the time of the signing then I think the deal made sense. I definitely don't think it was a slam dunk, but I thought it was important to have at least one arm in your rotation locked up long-term.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Whos bright idea was it to pay Danks a lot of money? I supported the move when it was made. Unfortunately, locking up starting pitching is extremely risky.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) We can't score 5 runs Way too crooked of number for us.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) Already calling the loss? Caulfield, I should have never doubted you
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) He's just awful, but have to hope he learns how to pitch as a control pitcher. Looking like one of the worst contract extensions in Sox history. Do you think his velocity is never coming back? I mean, yeah he's going to suck without his regular stuff (like he has tonight), but is there reason to expect him to never return to his old self? Not arguing, just trying to understand. You're pretty scaring the s*** out of me right now.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) There's your White Sox 1B for 2014....Kendrys Morales. Too much topspin. Lucky it didn't go out. Morales has been on fire. Looked like a surefire homer. 8th double in last 14 games, over .300 now, Morales es en fuego. White Sox have lost 7 road games consecutively now. Already calling the loss?
  22. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) With the way Keppinger has been hitting of late, I wouldn't mind him getting a start in LF every once in a wild. I remember when he was signed it was deemed his best position. After losing 3 straight after losing 3 straight to the Cubs... This would be switching it up against a LHP. SS Alexei Ramiez 2B Gordon Beckham RF Alex Rios DH Dayan Viciedo 1B Paul Konerko CF Alejandro De Aza LF Jeff Keppinger 3B Conor Gillaspie C Hector Gimenez Why not just DH Keppinger? I have never seen him play LF, but I'm going to guess that Tank is a better defensive LF if you factor in his arm. And I realize that Viciedo isn't very good out there either. Just can't imagine Keppinger would be though.
  23. I feel bad for Stone for having to constantly agree with Hawk's delusions.
  24. Hawk can't even call Beckham's at-bats objectively.
