6/3 - The Return of the Bacon Slayer
Chicago White Sox replied to Quin's topic in 2013 Season in Review
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) Hayes wishes he was that good. Even Dan Hayes knows he's terrible, but at least Hawk is nice enough to drop a "nice job kiddo" at the end of each interview to lift his spirits. -

I love how Hawk talks to Dan Hayes like he's a high school reporter. We finally have a lead! Nice! -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:19 PM) Hawkins homer in Game 2. 1-2, and still no K's today! edit: now he k'd 1-3 What's crazy is he's missed over half the season and is still 4th in the Carolina League in HRs.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) Dunn batting higher than 10th against a LHP is too high. Is there any easy way to tell how many of Wells' 23 plate appearances have come against lefties? -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) The funny thing is, how in the world is it warranted? What has Beckham done to make Hawk this giddy about him? "I'll tell you what Stone Poney, Gordon Beckham is the best defensive second basemen I've seen since Bill Mazeroski." -
I will say this, tough talk is better than nothing, but a real roster move or a coach getting fired would put more stock into these statements.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) I think it goes deeper. Get when of your scouting and development as well. 100% true. I didn't like the Manto promotion in the first place, as his view on walks didn't seem very...modern. It may not make a difference, but I have no problem with him getting canned. Having said that, we have a huge issue with developing hitting prospects in the minor leagues. I don't know where I read it, but Joey DeMichele basically said that our organization lets our positional prospects figure out things on their own for the most part. If that's true in the slightest, then we're in a lot of trouble, especially if we keep drafting raw/toolsy players. Our minor league hitting coaches and instructors need to be working with our players everyday and teaching them how to make adjustments and get better. These prospects are not going to figure it out on their own.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) His defense has been mediocre at best since joining the Sox. Maybe the most overrated defensive prospect in a long time for the Sox. It's really shocking because he was rated the best outfielder in the organization for several years. He really hasn't looked good in his limited showing.
-
Hawk must be high as a kite. Our team defense isn't suddenly going to be fixed once Beckham is back. And Beckham becoming the leader of this ball club? It's probably only 50/50 right now he'll even be back next year.
-
Watch us score exactly 1 run in the 9th and lose 2-1.
-
Alright, I take back any nice thing I've ever said about Jordan Danks.
-
We are so f***ing lucky right there.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Coop is Kenny's spy. No way he gets elevated to manager. Oh god, you must be Joe Cowley.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) You would have to think that is next. 25 years in the organization. He's due for his promotion...again. Let's hope not. Taking time away from him to actually work with pitchers is a bad idea.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Yeah, that's exactly it. Weak.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) Caulfield-- I caught myself and remembered he missed time. Calm down dude. And Viciedo sucks. Yup, all 24 year olds that aren't Mike Trout suck.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:20 PM) Viciedo on pace for a whopping 12 homers and 39 RBIs. (he was injured though) Dude, I keep catching you in these edits. And this is not directed a you, but people wanted to write off Viciedo coming off a 25 HR season as a 23 year old are crazy to me. Give him some time for Christ sake. One week ago people were sucking his dick around here, now some of those same people want to trade him. Baseball is not supposed to be over-analyzed on a daily basis.
-
I will say this, if we decide to punt this season, Danks should be in the lineup everyday one way or the other. While I don't think he'll ever become a regular, he has put up big numbers the last two years in AAA. He's the type of guy you take a look at in a wasted season.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) I see. So you're plenty willing to give time to develop to cheap trash from other teams with great minor league numbers, just not ones from the White Sox. Guys from the White Sox struggle, they need immediately replaced. Guys from the Royals struggle...hey, they're one swing away from turning it around! Balta, remember you never develop LFs, too easy to fill the position. However, finding a cheap 1B is near impossible so you have to try developing them.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) Absolutely. Without question, great minor league numbers, cheap contracts. Obviously an .853 OPS from Viciedo as a 22 year old in AAA doesn't qualify.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Is Viciedo ever going to learn how to hit righties Wasn't he hitting righties when he came off the DL? Seems like he's just in a funk right now.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) Nothing like playing a strict platoon guy against a tough RHP Exactly, if you have to play him for some reason, at least bat him 9th.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) why do we have Casper Wells again? I think the question is why is he batting 6th against a righty.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) For all his struggles, he's still in pace for 35/90. There's nobody else in the organization who can do that. PK is killing us just as much, but there's no replacement for him either. RBIs is not a good stat to base his performance off of. It's always going to be heavily influenced by your spot in the lineup and how the hitters in front of you are doing. As for the HRs, what would he be on pace for if you excluded that three game stretch?
