  1. Very strange that the Sox felt compelled to come out and squash the Espada rumor from last week Andy let the Guillen one run wild. Still think it will be Kevin Long when all is said and done.
  2. ? Thome put up a 177 wRC+ that year…Kotsay put up an 80 over 359 PAs.
  3. You must not remember Dwayne Wise leading of, Ozzie demanding a fast lead off hitter in Juan Pierre, or Ozzie forcing us to get rid of Thome so we could have a rotating DH led by Mark Kotsay. Ozzie loved his grinders and would play a lineup full of them on Sundays.
  4. Oh I know it’s only a couple, but I just can’t believe how easily those few people forget how bad Ozzie was near the end. Everything about him was legit terrible and costly to our franchise. I get he was our manager in 2005 and he has funny post-game shows, but he is bad manager and his hire would be disastrous.
  5. This fanbase blows my mind sometimes. How could anyone want Ozzie Guillen as our next manger? Outside the dugout, the dude has proven to be a selfish, ego-maniac who will put him and his family above all else. Inside the dugout, he’s an anti-analytics, small ball loving clown who likes to insert himself into games. The only area where he actually is a big upgrade over Tony is he has an actual pulse and will do a much better job of bringing a consistent effort from his guys. And guess what? We can get that from most other candidates along with a modern approach to managing. I know it’s only a few people, but please stop with the Ozzie is the answer nonsense.
  6. The difference being that Jerry allowed Hawk to fire Tony in what he considered to be his biggest regret ever whereas Ozzie literally quit on his team during the season because he’s a selfish prick. Doesn’t mean history can’t repeat itself, but Jerry’s affections for these are not the same.
  7. I disagree here. I’d be much more concerned if Hahn had interviewed Ozzie twice vs. meeting with Jerry and then getting a token interview with Rick. The former means Rick is actually interested vs. doing a courtesy.
  8. Sounds like this Daniel Greenberg dude did a poor job translating the article this rumor came from:
  9. I’d rather hire a cheater for manager than a quitter. f*** Ozzie Guillen.
  10. That’s fair, but in a blind negotiation you have to cap yourself at some point or else you are simply bidding against yourself.
  11. Our 2nd round pick in the 2006 draft who ended up being a really bad pitcher, but luckily I messed up my Long’s and you’ve missed nothing ?
  12. If Hahn gets undermined by Jerry again, no ways he sticks around right? And for a guy who quit on the team previously? As insanely demented as the TLR hire was, an Ozzie would be loads crazier IMO. KW & Hahn legit don’t like Ozzie and rightfully so. I refuse to believe Ozzie interviewing is anything more than a favor to him from Jerry. Matt Long will be the manager and we will all laugh this off shortly after the World Series.
  13. I refuse to believe they’d hire Ozzie, but the sheer notion is terrifying. I legit hate Jerry Reinsdorf for making us suffer through these nightmares.
  14. It’s really not as simple as you’re making it out.
  15. The ultimate fake Twitter insider has us connect to Nimmo at $100M+ Would be such a good addition if the payroll room is there.
  16. I don’t think we have an issue with guys being in shape other than maybe Eloy to some extent. Moncada & Robert legit look like NFL players. To me, it seems like a flexibility issue. Whether that’s off-season training or pre-game activity related I have not idea, but there is clearly something our players aren’t doing that other organizations are. The amount of hamstring injuries in particular is proof of that IMO.
  17. DVS talked to Ozzie and said he hadn’t nor had any planned. The bigger threat is Getz although the longer this process takes the more likely it’s Kevin Long.
  18. Why? He hadn’t even been interviewed just a couple of days ago?
  19. It’s possible they’ve simply settled on someone they like better like Long.
  20. Sure seems like we need to make some changes with our training staff
  21. If the plan is to cut payroll, then you might as well trade Cease & Anderson for hauls.
  22. Definitely could happen. I guess I’m hoping Reinsdorf ultimately keeps the payroll mostly flat worst-case scenario given his advanced age. That may be very optimistic of me though. FWIW, Merkin’s initial “5 questions for the off-season” article did not hint at a nightmare outcome and he is usually the first one to plant those seeds.
  23. MLBTR’s off-season outlook for the Sox: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/10/offseason-outlook-chicago-white-sox-12.html Pretty good assessment of the team and our needs. One thing of note is if we tender contracts to Giolito, Cease, Kopech, Lopez, & Mendick we’re looking at ~$167M in payroll commitment for 18 guys. Throw in six minimum salary guys in Vaughn, Colas, Sosa (or Romy), Zavala, Lambert, & Crochet (or AAA random arm) and you’re probably sitting at ~$172M. That would leave us somewhere in the $15M to $30M range to add a starting OF and a 5th starter. Personally if I were Hahn, I’m targeting Kodai Senga for the rotation. Let’s say he gets a deal slightly higher than what Kikuchi got from the Mariners due to him having no posting fee and call it 4/$64M. If we’re being optimistic, that would leave ~$14M for an OF and with that money I’d sign Conforto to a pillow contract. To me, that’s about as best as we could do and that might be pushing things financially. Also, while I’d prefer Nimmo over Conforto, I really think we need to add a quality 5th starter. A foursome of Cease, Lynn, Kopech, & Giolito could be elite but the latter three all carry legitimate risk. Even if Jerry would approve a Nimmo signing, you’re probably looking at a scrap-heap #5 type starter then.
