White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Our payroll is ridiculously low and below where we ever were during the past rebuild if you adjust for inflation. Even for Jerry it would be absolutely ridiculous to dump Robert right now now for scraps to rock a $50M payroll. -

I don’t necessarily disagree, but adding Walker requires blocking someone like Bush, Burke, Nastrini, Adams, etc. for a half season. And honestly, I think that is a double negative whereas Benintendi is really not blocking anyone at the moment and worst case blocks one of DeLoach or Fletcher if were to add an OF or DH. -

JFC Walker was terrible last year (7.12 xERA) and his velocity was also down. Might be better gambling on Benintendi’s bouncing back that Walker. -

Sure, but we don’t have to pick up the option for another year, so why not wait and see what his first half looks like? There is zero reason to dump him now and this idea that we wouldn’t pick up a $20M option if he put up say a 5 win season because we think he might be “Moncada 2.0” is crazy. Let’s see how does with a new coaching staff and Fuller in place. I’d rather get nothing for him after the upcoming season than rush to trade him for scraps right now. -
He had like a 137 wRC+ against LHP over a four year period, I wouldn’t call that a fringe major leaguer but rather a useful platoon bat. That being said, he obviously could be cooked at this point.

Bohm is worth his projected $8.5M salary, so you’d almost certainly be taking less prospects with his inclusion. I think the reality would love use him instead of additional prospects and then replace him via free agency. -
Andrew Benintendi on the trade market (duh)

I fully agree. But I would say the optics of a $2M signing being our biggest and only real addition would be bad. I still think they add a couple more pieces to fill out the roster, but zero reason to sign C tier free agents to block the fringe prospects we already have in place like DeLoach, Fletcher, Sosa, & Lee IMO. -

I know that and don’t get me wrong, it’s all somewhat embarrassing, but there is a difference between a $2M bench piece and an Erick Fedde caliber signing and I feel pretty confident they will add a guy or two in that range of a deal. Ultimately there is plenty we can rip Getz for that we don’t need to purposely take a second hand comment out of context to do so. -

Why in the world would we want two years of Bohm? Do a three way trade if necessary, but holy s%*# Getz him and Lux don’t do s%*# for us. -

Can we stop with this nonsense? We have no reason to believe (yet) that Slater was anything but their #1 target for a weak-side platoon OF role. If this ends up being their most expensive free agent addition then flame away, but it seems very apparent to me that Slater’s comment should be taken in the context of his specific role. -

I don’t think Robert is traded until the deadline and no one is taking Benintendi unless he’s paired with Crochet. I still don’t believe they would actually do that. -
Figured it was time a thread for random White Sox rumors of highly questionable nature but fun to discuss. First one I’ve seen comes good ‘ole Orlando, I mean Bartolo’s Colonoscopy. He claims the Sox have interest in Jakob Junis and that he’s one of their top targets. Again, probably a complete fabrication but figured I’d share nonetheless.

Unfortunately it just seems like Jerry is going to go super cheap next year.
-
SoxMachine was saying just shy of $60M, but they may have been missing some retained / dead salary. I would anticipate a final payroll in the $75M to $80M range, so perhaps we still add a veteran bat and reliever later on in the offseason. But outside of a Crochet trade and some smaller moves, I think the bulk of the roster is in place.
-
Anyways, moving away from the incel debate, does anyone know where the payroll after these tenders?
-
Like I said, it’s going to be a bad lineup. But at least the bulk of guys are young and controllable, which to me, is more fun than watching a lineup with Pham, Maldonado, Lopez, & DeJong.
-
So at the moment, our Opening Day lineup could look something like this: Vargas, 3B Baldwin, SS# Robert, CF Vaughn, 1B Benintendi, LF* Sosa, 2B DeLoach, DH* Lee, C Fletcher, RF* Quero, Montgomery, & Ramos are all likely to come up at some point, with a non-zero chance of winning roles coming out of spring training. And obviously a Crochet trade could another player or two into the immediate mix. While the offense will almost certainly suck next year, at least it’s mostly young guys that you can dream on a bit even if most of them are admittedly long-shots.
-
Clear starter? No one, but for a rebuilding team coming off a historically bad season and in desperate need of some building blocking? Fletcher, the guy you were super excited about when Getz first acquired him and thought he could be an Eaton clone. Or DeLoach, a guy you said you could be a LH RF power bat for us. Why do you want to block these guys in a season where winning doesn’t matter when they liked as recently as a year ago? Just for the possibility of Hays rebounding and you can flip him at the deadline for something more valuable? I wouldn’t be completely against a Hays move if they plan rotate some of the OFs through the DH spot, but the original point was if you’re Getz and you’re looking to supplement Fletcher & DeLoach or whomever we get in a Crochet trade (and not replace them) then Slater on the cheap is a more realistic move as Hays won’t want to fill that role in the first place.
-
Hays also won’t accept being a platoon OF either.
-
Lol…treating him so poorly? Are you fucking serious dude?
-
Do you want me to find the link? It was from a legitimate baseball writer and not some random blogger. And as much I like to give Harold s%*#, he’s proven to have some actual inside info in the past. That being said, I agree that I find it unlikely that even Jerry would be that desperate to dump Benintendi’s contract.
-
Benintendi has been a terrible defender with us and has looked lazy in the field at times, so really not a David Eckstein clone. Regardless, a Boston report is the source of this and Harold has also implied that we may try to pair Andrew with Crochet to dump the contract.
-
Gotta catch em all!
