Burke has met expectations so far and both Kelley & Mena’s first starts were promising. But really need one of Thompson or Dalquist to breakthrough this year.

Put Burger at 2B (or Yoan at 2B and Burger at 3B)

He would ask to be traded? How often do guys demand trades in MLB let alone ones with less than a year of service time? -

I really hope other teams are taking notice of Burger. He’s an easy 2 win guy for me and that has real value. Hell, ZiPS thinks he’d be a ~2.5 win right now if given the playing time. But let’s put that into perspective from a value standpoint. 5 1/2 seasons of 2.5 win production at $8M per win would put his value at $110M. He’ll get paid ~$1.5M for those first 2 1/2 years and let’s say $23.5M for the remaining three. All in that puts his surplus value at like $85M. That being said, he is on the older side for a “young” guy and those 5 1/2 years represent his age 26 to 31 seasons, so let’s factor in some decline and shave off 1.5 wins total from his projection. That still puts his projected surplus value at $73M. Now, a team like the A’s aren’t going to accept that projection without more of a track record. But still, even with a 50% discount for uncertainty you’re not too far off from what Frankie Montas’ remaining 1 1/2 seasons should be worth. Would the A’s want a guy so close to the majors as the bulk of their return though? Hard to say, but they did acquire some near major league ready pieces in their other trades such as Langeliers & Pache. Point is, Burger should be a fairly valuable commodity and each week that he performs at the major league level it only increases his value. Unfortunately, I don’t see a realistic scenario in which both him and Moncada can co-exist and cover 3B & 2B. That doesn’t mean Burger can’t be a valuable role player who fills in at 3B, 1B, & DH, but we already have a ton of guys who can do that. I think he provides more value to the org as a trade chip to get us starting pitching help. We just got hope the rest of the league sees the mix of potential & floor that ZiPS does. -
This may be a dumb question, but what does that mean exactly?

Great night for the farm outside Cespedes & Thompson. Also, Bryan Ramos is fucking incredible. Scratch cracking top 100 lists, dude is going to cement himself as a top 50 prospect by season’s end. Colas & Montgomery probably will as well. Those three are the holy trinity of Sox positional prospects. And great start to the season for Sosa. Kid is a super slept on prospect and adding some patience to his game could elevate his status to the next level. He’s only 22 years old so not surprising to see his game evolve like this even if the walk rate is unsustainable. Finally, speaking of unsustainable walk rates, Yogurt is getting on base like crazy (23% BB rate so far). Dude is 25 years old and needs to be promoted to AAA ASAP. Seems like he may have a chance to be more than just a dude, but would be nice to see how he does against the junkballers in AAA.

Leury Garcia is currently on pace for -10.8 fWAR. I get it’s only a six game sample, but that is impressive nonetheless. -

Trade his ass for a Cuban SS so we can trade Timmy for some more Cuban pitching to supplement Vera. -

Where is Ramos? -
Leury is a Tony favorite and therefore he was rewarded a loyalty contract. Signing him for three years makes no sense when the market didn’t require such a lengthy commitment and the fact we have several guys in the upper minors who profile as reserve infielders or utility guys.

IMO, if there are six games a week on average and two are vs. LHP here’s how I’d address the issue if everyone is healthy. Versus RHP: 1B: Abreu (3/4) | Sheets (1/4) LF: Jimenez (3/4) | Vaughn (1/4) RF: Pollock (3/4) | Vaughn (1/4) DH: Sheets (1/4) | Vaughn (1/4) | Grandal (1/4) | Jimenez (1/4) CA: Grandal (2/4) | McGuire (2/4) Versus LHP: 1B: Abreu (2/2) LF: Jimenez (1/2) | Pollock (1/2) RF: Pollock (1/2) | Engel (1/2) DH: Vaughn (2/2) CA: Grandal (2/2) This allows the core starters (including Vaughn) to play five out of every six games. Sheets gets two starts a week against tough RHP, McGuire starts two games against RHP (where he is solid), and Engel gets a token start plus late game duties. If someone goes down, then Sheets’ playing time increases substantially. Until then he should be a role player whose playing time reflects that.

Lol…that last point is plain dumb and just highlights your strange bias against Vaughn.
