This hasn’t nothing to do with refusing to admit they made a mistake and everything to do with the fact Kimbrel is movable on a one year deal. The decision is effectively $14M and you’re completely naive to think teams wouldn’t be interested at that price point. Hahn will have done his due diligence prior to picking up that option and it will end up being a low risk move no matter how much you ridicule it for being stupid.

How did this person not ridicule Beach for being sexually assaulted and how did they not know the whole story? I guess he didn’t bring up the ejaculating on his back part of it, so I guess it’s proof of just “boys being boys”. Again, Toews didn’t make the comment, but he should have protected the kid and it doesn’t sound like he did shit. And that’s my biggest thing for the guy who is supposed to be the leader of the locker room. I don’t blame him at all for being a 22 year old kid during a championship run and not alerting the authorities that a teammate was sexually assaulted. But I do think he’s probably lying about when he found out and his Stan Bowman Stanning after getting canned food as highly insensitive and minimizes what Kyle Beach endured. And I think he should have done more to protect the kid when he found out. It doesn’t make him an evil person, but it does make me think he just may be a shitty leader.

I’m not asking to cancel him or strip his C. And trust me, I’m 100% guilty of using words I wouldn’t use as an adult. My clear distinction here is mocking someone for being sexually assaulted, which isn’t just “locker room” talk. These guys clearly knew the Beach story and at least one guy lacked all compassion and actually ridiculed the kid for it. This is like making fun of rape victim for being raped. That is sadistic and goes beyond what’s acceptable in the high testosterone world of sports. Again, I don’t think Toews should be canceled, but I do think people should seriously question him as a leader and his comments yesterday in regard to Bowman only further add to that.

This is my "realistic" scenario with a $175M payroll. I've tried to address all needs (RF, 2B, BC, rotation, bullpen depth) while also improving the overall balance of the lineup. I think the biggest stretch is Keuchel for La Stella, but still think that could be a possibility given his huge salary increase in 2023 and the fact that 80% of the Giants' rotation is hitting free agency. Starting pitching depth is a concern, which is why I'd target Teheran (or someone similar) for a minor league deal. Also, not shown in the roster build but I'd bring back Jimmy Cordero (optioning him to AAA) and let him be the next man up in the bullpen.

This isn’t some guy making a sexually suggestive comment, this a dude who was accused of sexual violence against an employee. Whether McCub said he was going to do something, clearly he didn’t and that should have been apparent to everyone in know. I’m not suggesting Bowman should go to jail, but the complete lack of compassion for a potential victim and willingness to allow a predator to continue to run rampant should certainly cost him his job. Bowman does not deserve sympathy for doing the absolute bare minimum. Just my opinion.

To be clear, sexual assault <> sexual harassment and the fact that Aldrich wasn’t put on leave immediately after the meeting with McCub should have caused Bowman to follow-up. The reality is he did the bare minimum because he also didn’t want the distraction at that time and he 100% deserves losing his job now. If your direct report accused someone else at your office of sexual assault and you saw said guy running around a couple days later, I hope you wouldn’t be like “well I told my boss, I’m sure everything is fine”.

I was originally expecting around $170M, but based on some recent comments here I’m going with something around $180M. Could it be higher than that? Theoretically yes, but I’m not banking on it until it actually happens. Hopefully Jerry realizes now is the time to spend and perhaps his unfortunate loss of his wife has shown him he may not have a ton more time to win another championship. Time to go big or go home.

My reasoning was twofold. First, as you outlined above, La Stella’s salary jumps substantially in 2023 and they make seek an upgrade at 2B this offseason. Second, 80% of the Giants rotation is hitting free agency I believe and adding Dallas may be an easy way to address one spot. Maybe I’m totally off base here, but I could see something like this theoretically happening.

I think we can trade Keuchel for another bad contract. I could see something like Dallas to the Giants for Tommy La Stella making sense for both sides.

Fully agree on the defense, but he’s really not good against RHP and just feels like a guy that will get overpaid IMO. But damn, would Cubs fans riot if he joined the Sox.

Happ is not a really good player and Baez is a bad fit for this team IMO. The other two would be helpful though, but adding Schwarber only makes sense if trade Vaughn for someone like Lux.

One thing to add, but if the Sox are planning to spend like crazy then it’s all but certain Jerry is looking to sell the team in the next couple of years and is looking to quickly build up the value of the franchise. This is the exact playbook the Tribune executed when they finally decided to sell the Cubs. And with rumors of some smaller ownership changes, maybe we really are seeing an end of the Reinsdorf dynasty.
