  1. FYI...Kopech is only controllable through 2025 (four more years of control after this season) and we definitely will have some arb eligible players this offseason.
  2. Same here! Let’s hope the Marlins feel the same and will take him as a piece for Starling Marte!
  3. Oh I know they’ll move to the rotation next year, but if they don’t get him some innings he won’t last the full and won’t be able to contribute much come October.
  4. Fully agree. There is still time, but as each day passes it just seems like they want to keep him a high leverage, 1 or 2 inning reliever role.
  5. That’s totally fair, but at some point we got to rip off the bandaid or he will be greatly limited as a starter next year.
  6. What’s their plan exactly? Kopech is sitting at 36.1 innings on the year.
  7. We own the city now, time to rock $180M+ payrolls
  8. You just compared Gallo to Dunn, so not sure what Engel has anything to do about it. The point is Gallo is a monster with the bat and the glove, so his floor is certainly not Adam Dunn even if his offense breaks bad.
  9. Why couldn’t Carlos always been this dude??
  10. I’d probably say Burdi, although I think Zack is the superior prospect.
  11. I like Hamilton as a role player, but maybe look at the 862 PAs against LHP coming into the season before saying that. Goodwin has historically been leagues better against LHP and it’s not even close.
  12. He has a 60 wRC+ against LHP in his career over 895 PAs, I’m not sure 33 PAs this year should change our opinion of him.
  13. Escobar isn’t going to cost that much IMO.
  14. Depends on what changes they make in the upcoming CBA. Knowing our luck we end up with neither an extra pick or Rodon for an additional year.
  15. I’m not sure any of this is an accurate narrative. Lucas’ usage rate on his slider was 17% yesterday vs. 18% YTD (and 15% the last two seasons). Over his last eight starts it’s been at 19%, so slightly higher than last night. And a lot of that is attributable to a single start against the Tigers. So the slider usage is up but not significantly. Additionally, it’s the slider that has been the most impacted in terms of spin rate since the spidertack ban, being down ~6% vs. 2020 whereas his 4-seamer is only down ~2%. So yeah, he was probably using something, but he didn’t suddenly think “fuck, I can’t use the sticky stuff anymore so I better start using my most impacted pitch way more frequently”. Also, at least in terms of last night, it wasn’t that he was using the slider more, but using the changeup far less (19% vs. 35% YTD). Again, this is just one start doesn’t imply a material change in usage since the spidertack ban. Perhaps it implies some willingness to mix things up a bit more, but we need more than eight starts to draw any conclusions on him making a legit repertoire change.
  16. Not looking to pat myself on the back here, but it’s absolutely remarkable what the three kids referenced above plus Sheets have done since this post was made. They have legit been studly and have made a huge difference for us against RHP. And while these are all incredibly SSS, even Burger has been more than just a lefty killer so far (although he’s got some serious BABIP regression coming). Regardless, it’s impressive what these kids have accomplished this season. Collins with a 187 wRC+ against RHP over 33 PAs Vaughn with a 147 wRC+ against RHP over 57 PAs Burger with a 216 wRC+ in total over 27 PAs Sheets with a 203 wRC+ against RHP over 44 PAs
  17. Moncada is made of glass and playing him at 2B increases the chance he someone gets while also weakening the defense. Just go get Escobar and call it a day.
  18. All good brother, just didn’t know if I missed something.
