  1. Right now the opening day pitching staff looks like it will be the following: Rotation: Lucas Giolito Lance Lynn Dallas Keuechel* Dylan Cease Carlos Rodon* Bullpen: 9th: Liam Hendriks 8th: Aaron Bummer* 8th: Evan Marshall 7th: Garret Crochet* 7th: Codi Heuer 6th: Matt Foster LR: Michael Kopech LR: Reynaldo Lopez At least initially, I don’t think guys having options will have much impact. Maybe when Fry comes back then Lopez having an option will matter, but until then I think they can roll with the best 5th starter possible whether that be Carlos or Reynaldo.
  2. That’s all fair, but if you’re going to go with a six man rotation at some point, do it during the dog days when there are no off-days.
  3. We’ve had this argument before, but going with a six man rotation when there are like six or seven off-days in the first 40 or so games of the season is crazy IMO. Pitchers are a creature of habit and pitching on six days rest is likely going to mess with them, not to mention why give our worst two starters more starts than needed.
  4. My beef with Leury is he isn’t very good against RHP, which takes away some value despite the flexibility he offers. And honestly, with Engel the better defensive OF and equally good against LHP, he’s a bit redundant in some ways. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice bench player, but I’d probably rather have a left-handed IF given the rest of our roster construction.
  5. Alright guys, who you got winning the the 5th starter role? Rodon appears to be the favorite based on statements released from the club and their unofficial spokespersons, but Lopez is starting to get some hype in camp. If changes to his arm action are translating to actual results (rather than just spring training fluff), then I’d argue giving him the 5th starter spot since he provides two additional years of control and has historically been far more durable than Carlos.
  6. Thanks James. I’m sure I’m wrong here but I thought Getz implied Weaver was headed to A+. For some reason I also thought he hinted at Delgado going to Winston-Salem as well.
  7. Reliever is unlikely to be a big need come July unless a lot of things go wrong.
  8. I honestly think it’s more Coop had gotten pretty bad / behind the times than Katz is the savior. I really think there is some low hanging fruit that can easily be addressed with a more modern pitching coach.
  9. Oh fuck please be true!?!!?!! Imagine if all these plus curveballs come back to life under Katz!!
  10. A lot of young guys will likely be at Kanny. I’d expect Romas, Rodriguez, Bailey, Gladney, Beard, & Mieses all there plus Kelley, Thompson, & Dalquist in the rotation. Even Winston-Salem should have some fun guys in Cespedes, Bush, Sosa, Yolbert, Weaver, and maybe Delgado.
  11. You’re missing the point here. I’m not arguing that Boozer was a good free agent signing or that GarPax did well in free agency in general, but rather that Boozer isn’t proof of a Reinsdorf run organization going cheap. They wanted to sign two of the big three that offseason and whiffed, which resulted in them pivoting to a still very expensive Boozer.
  12. Boozer was 100% a free agent signing and if you are arguing otherwise you simply don’t understand how the NBA works.
  13. Winston-Salem most likely, but I could see him quickly advancing to AA. Sounds like placements will be aggressive this year given all the lost time over the past 12 months.
  14. Scientific or not, I tend to believe it, at least from my past experiences.
  15. You are taking this Mr 3000 thing way too far
  16. He wasn’t the pick of the litter, but given how the NBA works he was basically paid the same as the other stars. Boozer was a bad signing, but not because he was of the cheap variety.
  17. Longenhagen based on his ranking on one set of appearances and Cespedes didn’t perform well then. Additionally, the kid has transformed his body and swing since leaving Cuba, so some evaluators believe he has vastly more potential than the previous consensus. There is a reason to get hyped behind Yoelqui.
  18. Should be the best in baseball with interesting arms in AAA waiting in the wings.
  19. I still feel they were willing to move Dunning because of their faith in Stiever and his modest looking stuff last year would return to form.
  20. I love the foodies are now football insiders as well!
  21. But you can still be a major free agent and suck, which is what most are arguing.
  22. I doubt vets give two shits about his comment.
  23. I personally think he’d be a decent add. Given the injury histories of Eloy & Eaton, I think having another corner OF type on the cheap makes some sense, even if his defensive prowess has greatly diminished since his peak days. Also, it provides us some Vaughn instance as well.
