the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
Chicago White Sox replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
FWIW, Lucas Giolito has the highest Zips projection amongst all starters next year, so saying someone is better than him based on 12 awesome starts is being pretty ambitious. -

The way I look at the latter proposal is you’d be giving up a top 50 prospect who is high floor but low ceiling (which is an unusual centerpiece), two SP prospects who could quickly enter the bottom of top 100 lists next year, and and a controllable reliever who has already posted great numbers and has closer potential. To be honest, that’s a lot of talent to give up, even if it’s not an overly sexy package. The challenge is it doesn’t give the Brewers an immediate replacement for Burnes, which means they’d be taking a step back next year and that seems unlikely unless they were to make additional “retooling” type moves. -

Theoretically he’s a major league ready starter to replace Burnes. I wouldn’t be shocked if there were teams dying to get their hands on Lopez based on how badly Cooper butchered, but he’d definitely a secondary piece to any trade. -

Burnes for Madrigal + Heuer + Lopez + Kelley Who says no? If you say the Brewers, what if you replace Lopez with Stiever? -

And that’s a totally fair perspective, but the Brewers aren’t going to give him away for cheap after the season he just had. -

That Reddit rumor has to be bullshit unfortunately. -
Important life lesson here, but before you send 67 sexually oriented text messages (including a dick pic) to a member of the opposite sex without getting any sort of response, maybe just rub one out and call it a day.

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Lester getting $5M makes it feel like Quintana & Richards should get closer to $10M. They better find a way to land one of these guys. Also, random thought, but given all the concerns over Richards’ health, if we signed him I wouldn’t be against forming a Garrett tandem with him and Crochet. Cap Richards at five innings per start and then give Crochet three afterwards. If we are going to use Crochet out of the bullpen, I do like the idea of keeping him on a starters schedule and this may be a way to solve that. And if Richards were to go down at some point, I’d probably just replace him with Kopech and keep the same arrangement going. -
They were but that doesn’t change what actually occurred

They simply have an owner who wants to win above all else.

Fernando Tatis Jr signed for like $800k. I get the hit rate on these kids is low, especially for us, but I’d rather have three lottery tickets then sign a guy like Sanchez who is both older and with a limited ceiling. At some point you’re bound to get lucky and hit with one of these teenage signings if you keep investing in that area.

They hired him after they already knew about the DUI, why would they fire him over it simply because it became public? Regardless of how you feel about TLR, this is a very different situation.
-
I’m guessing he means for not firing La Russa despite the fact he was aware of the DUI before hiring him. Regarding Porter, not sure how he keeps his job after this. Who want to work with this creep?

Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers

At this point, you simply sign Quintana or Richards and let your second tier prospects build up their values. If Stiever’s stuff returns to form and he pitches well in Charlotte, he could be a very nice trade chip to pair with one of the young arms in Kannapolis come July. Right now, too many of our prospects have suppressed values and it makes trading for a high end starter challenging without including Vaughn or Kopech. -

Not sure what he means “forthcoming White Sox moves will make more sense” in regards to Crochet when he suggests Quintana & Richards are primary targets. -

The Sox have gotten progressively better since the 2018 draft, but until they take a prep in the 1st they are still well behind the curve. LatAm is another story and while I love the Cespedes & Vera additions, we can’t keep ignoring the top of the 16 year old market like we do and expect to be competitive. Unfortunately Jerry doesn’t understand signing young LatAm prospects has the highest ROI in baseball.

Why are these mutually exclusive? Nothing does matter until we have a QB and Nagy / Pace should not be the ones to lead that process.

Him hyping up a signing that’s been known for six months is beyond lame, but definitely feels like that’s how this will shake out.
