You have $30m to complete the roster...
Chicago White Sox replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Your so unable to handle any disappointment that you must convince yourself that the worst possible outcome is the most likely? What a sad way to go about life man. -

Because Kopech is going to be on a strict innings limit next year and Lopez doesn’t warrant to be anything more than our #7 starter. If we don’t add another legit starter then we likely won’t have the depth to survive a full major league season. -

100% this. The rumors right now point as both Hendriks + Quintana and at minimum they will cost $23M combined if I had to guess, so this only $15M more to spend with is likely bogus. -

You need to stop Jack. You will literally take one single rumor or data point that happens to be the most pessimistic view possible and just run with it. How can someone live this way? -

Obviously I have no inside info, but that 100% feels right to me based on everting we know. An impact reliever, another decently paid starter, and a low end bat later in the offseason. -
With this class I’d go with the rookie. Darnold is a somewhat interesting reclamation project given the Gase factor, but even if you fix him he’ll quickly become expensive.

Here’s what I would do: Hendriks = 3/$39M Paxton = 1/$14M Mazara = 1/$2.5M -

Yeah, it’s really tough to be honest. I do like the idea of Hendriks a ton just because of how big of a weapon he’d be in October, but there will be a ton of interesting arms that will be had much cheaper that allow you to do other things to your point. -

If you’re complaining about the size of our payroll budget, there isn’t much for me to defend there. But if you accept the fact that Hahn has to work within a budget, then $3M is a big enough gap that warrants taking your time because it could mean a lesser starting pitcher you can add. -

Does what matter? 3/$30M and 4/$40M is a 33% difference in potential earnings, so if that’s the gap it’s going to take some time to resolve. -
Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option

So you’re mad at Keuchel for not snitching out his teammates, but are totally cool with Plesac lying to his teammates and exposing them (one who is immune compromised) to a deadly virus? You have some seriously fucked up morals bro. -

I think most of these guys have too much confidence in themselves to let something like McCann leaving impact a financial decision for them, but perhaps the Katz hiring is something that improved his willingness to take guaranteed money and delay free agency. I tend to think Lucas loves being a part of the White Sox family, especially after they stuck with him post a horrific 2018 season, but this is guys’ livelihood and you just never know. But without question, if you don’t do it now, the chances are near zero of him agreeing to something before free agency. -
I doubt it happens, but Mazara at a 1/$2.5M deal makes a ton of sense for us to open the season at DH (or split time with Eloy) and then move to a backup role once Vaughn is ready. Now, he’ll probably want to prioritize an everyday playing time above all else, but come January or February if he hasn’t found a role it’s somewhat I would seriously consider. And to be clear, this is under the assumption we have significant budget limitations and aren’t going to spend big on a DH. Otherwise, I’d be looking at much more impactful options.

To be fair, this is a tough market for relievers, so it’s very possible no one willing to offer anything close yet to Hendriks’ expectations. -

Some of these extension numbers being thrown around for Giolito are totally off-base. Again, the Aaron Nola extension is almost a perfect comp for what Giolito should get as a starting point when you consider these factors: Years From Free Agency: Both three Prior Production: Nola = 4.5 & 5.4 seasons | Giolito = 5.1 & 5.4 seasons Projected Arb Figure: Nola = $6.6M | Gioltio = $5.M Age at Time: Nola = 25 | Giolito = 26 The similarities are remarkable, with the only real difference being Lucas is a year older. And what did Nola agree to? A 4/$45M extension plus a team option at $16M with a $4M buyout. The deal bought two potential years of free agency and provided him guaranteed salaries of $4M, $8M, $12M, & $15M plus a $2M signing bonus. Overall the commitment was 4/$49M or 5/$61M for the club. While I personally would expect Lucas to demand more than what Nola got, I don’t think there is any chance in hell he’s getting $85M to $90M. The reality is he’d likely want something closer to 4/$55M guaranteed with a total value around 5/$75M if a 5th year club option were exercised. Perhaps something like $7M in 2021, $10M in 2022, $15M in 2023, & $19M with a 5th year club option at $24M or $4M would work. That’s big jump from what Nola got just two years later and something I think would be highly interesting to Giolito. The only question is whether he’s ok with hitting free agency at 31, but given the contracts older pitchers are getting I’m not sure that would be a deal breaker. -
The problem for us is twofold. It’s now pretty clear that our 2021 budget is somewhat limited due to COVID. Therefore, signing Brantley means we can’t add either a closer or another starter. Given the strength of our offense, it makes much more sense to invest in pitching first. Second, Brantley is going to get a multi year deal and that just doesn’t work for us from a roster standpoint even if we held down Vaughn all of 2021.

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
I just find it interesting that an older player with lesser tools / lower ceiling who has been injured almost as much over the past few seasons was able to land a deal for twice as much money. I do think Eaton has the higher floor year, but don’t think that warrants $4M more in salary. -

Nice pickup for the Tigers, so far they seem to be having an excellent offseason. -
The best show on TV has returned! What do you guys think of the new format? Personally, I think it will be awesome. The ability to swap out partners is a political game changer and it’s going to add some real fireworks.

Hahn has implied they aren’t done yet, so they’ll certainly be adding a reliever and a starter before the offseason is over. And let’s be honest, they purposely leaked that adding Eaton instead of a pricier OF would allow them to do other things and that to me is clear indication that the pursuit of Hendriks is real. Obviously no guarantee they get him, but I do think he’s the #1 priority. -

What is there is to be worried about beyond 2021 though? Next year is the only season that has real risk from a financial standpoint. I still think they sign Hendriks. -
