  1. 100% agree with this. The roster is more or less complete outside of four or five spots. We can no longer afford sub replacement level players in key spots. No more excuses...Rick has to start hitting on his free agent signings. And landing a TOR starter is far & away the most critical goal of the offseason. IMO, if he doesn’t find a way to land that type of arm then I think he deserves an F.
  2. That’s all fair, but I still don’t see what it has to do with Hall of Fame qualifications.
  3. What does keeping someone out of the Hall of the Fame for roiding have to do with giving a manager a second chance for cheating? Even a steroid user gets two chances before they get a lifetime ban. I think Hinch should come under similar scrutiny if he ever is in consideration for a Hall of Fame spot (ethics / morals matter in that context), but in the interim he served his time and should be able to manage again.
  4. I just watched the press conference and I thought his response on our financial situation sounded pretty optimistic. Obviously he didn’t guarantee anything, but he also didn’t do that extreme of a job of keeping expectations in check. I really do expect us to spend a decent amount this winter all things considered.
  5. Yup. And canning Ricky while under contract and in the middle of an economic crisis means we probably some money to play with this offseason.
  6. And yet Rick Hahn, a Major League GM, has decided it did matter enough to fire Ricky despite our first post-season appearance in a dozen years. Context does matter and as we saw down the stretch bad decision making can cost you games quickly when a run or two has a significant impact on your win expectancy.
  7. Why would I laugh at your post? I just don’t know what you’re upset about right now. The Sox fired a manager who was likely going to be a problem at some point and a pitching coach who time has since passed by. No one should upset right now, yet you are going on a tangent about KW & Hahn for some reason. Guess what bud, firing Ricky puts more accountability on the front office as they just burned their get out of jail free card. A rational fan would be ecstatic right now.
  8. I agree but Steve is gonna Stone. He can’t hold back from sharing his opinion.
  9. I’ll have mixed feelings about it just because I think his inability to stop his team from cheating despite “wanting to” is absolute bullshit. That being said, I need to do more research on his actual abilities in the dugout before I make too strong of an option. I’m not against second chances, but blaming Alex Cora for the entire situation is either a lie or signs of a manager who couldn’t control his clubhouse.
  10. A 60 game season and a 162 game season are very much different things. Don’t think there is anything with Stone being honest with opinion, dude does not think very highly of Ricky’s in-game manager skills.
  11. He’s signed through 2024 so not going to happen unless we want to trade for him
  12. Those are some pretty harsh words from Stone, but I generally agree that Ricky would put us at a sizable disadvantage.
  13. We fired Vizquel as our AA manager, no chance he’s in the mix for the major league job.
  14. His xwOBACON dropped from three straight years in the .370 to .380 range to .330. Could be a sample size issue, but that’s pretty alarming at his age.
  15. Brantley just scares me a bit. Declining quality of contact (per StatCast) in his age 33 is a big red flag to me. Don’t get me wrong, Joc would be a risk given how bad his 2020 season was, but he’s 28 years old, was dealing with some personal last year I believe, and was tremendous against RHP in 2018 & 2019. At a small dollar amount I’ll take my chances and look for an upgrade at the deadline if it doesn’t work out.
  16. I’m really not sure Brantley can play a solid RF is the problem, but perhaps I’m wrong. Either guy makes sense theoretically on a one year deal. I’d save my big dollars for pitching whether that comes via free agency or a trade.
  17. How many young arms who come up with curveballs as their best secondary pitch end up abandoning when they join the Sox? That alone should have been a major red flag to Hahn and the player development guys.
  18. Joc makes way too much sense as part of a RF platoon with Engel if you plan to prioritize pitching this offseason. Can probably be had on a 1/$10M deal or less given the current economic environment.
