2023-24 NFL Season Thread
Chicago White Sox replied to CentralChamps21's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
80% of franchises couldn’t get Jim Harbaugh…we could though and just for money that we have readily available. We just don’t care that much about winning. Same applies to the Bulls who wouldn’t go into the luxury tax despite raking in an insane same amount of money. The Reinsdorf lack any form of killer instinct that owners of other large market / premier franchises possess. -

Unfortunately Chicago sports are all owned by a bunch of losers who are content with the status quo except when it involves partnering up with their 80 year old drinking buddies -
Did he screw up or is he just a hateful homophobe? I’m all for giving people second chances in life, but to say what he said in that situation highly suggests the latter and there are simply too many quality broadcasters out there to give this opportunity to a guy with this much baggage.

At that point just sign Bauer and Urias and go full heal

Jim Bowden hypothetical trade! Dylan Cease to BOS for Marcelo Mayer, Wikelman Gonzalez, Jarren Duran ?
-
Is there a rumor supporting this because it would generally be the most shocking hire ever?

I don’t know how you could pass up on four 1sts and three 2nds if one of them is the 1.03 and you can still land MHJ. Even if you’re not 100% certain about Fields, you’d have so much future draft capital that you find a QB in other ways. I just don’t think there any chance you are getting that much to move up two spots. -

For four 1st round picks and three 2nds? Is that the trade? -
It’s literally like a 1/$19M deal on a PV basis…easily doable for us, but Teoscar wouldn’t have accepted this from us even if offered.
-
Imanaga to the Giants, Snell to the Angels, & Montgomery resigning with Texas is probably the best case outcome for us

To move up two spots? Seems like an insane amount of draft capital. -
I don’t see the Mets trading for Cease given how they’ve approached this off-season and Stearns’ general track record in MIL, but there are some nice potential packages there. I still think the Dodgers could be a sleeper here. I know many of us aren’t enamored with their prospects, but it’s clear they are going all-in on next year and a durable starter like Cease (with TOR upside) would make all the sense in the world for them. I’d definitely prefer trading with the Orioles, Red Sox (if even interested), or New York teams, but I could see definitely Friedman give up what it takes to land Cease.

Given that we will suck the next two years, I hope the Dodgers buy themselves the next two World Series so people stop thinking it’s cool that the richest team in baseball outspends the competition and realize that parity is fundamentally broken and will only get worse with time.

Haber out / Wong in as Assistant GM
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What happened to Fabian? Is he out with the addition of Watson? Regardless, Marco Paddy & Paul Janish are obviously two other key guys you’re missing. -
Red Sox appear to be legit broke based on their 2/$26M offer to Teoscar…you have to think Cease’s $8M salary would be super appealing to them.
-
They lost their stud closer as well who is likely a big reason they exceeded their Pythagorean W-L projection.
-
$8.5M deferred out to 2030 to 2039, so quite as big as it would otherwise seem
-
Good god…Dodgers are going to buy themselves a World Series this year

Also, he seems to indicate there have been other non-reported changes. I wonder if they also got rid of KW Jr. -

Of course and I called out that all the Royals hires as annoying and problematic in most cases. But Haber was a major problem and the last major remnant of the failed KW / Hahn regime. For a period of time I was greatly concerned that Getz was going to keep him around. His exit is a huge win and the fact they are splitting up his responsibilities is just as important. Would I prefer a non-Royal hire to fill this role? Of course, but this is one area where I think it’s much less of a issue. -
Who is not going crazy? And there is a reason these guys are still available…because the market was on hold while the Yamamoto tour was going on. Boras is looking for a fuckton of money for these guys and is just finally getting started in terms of marketing them. I don’t how anyone can say without a straight face that this market for SP isn’t nuts simply because teams aren’t eager to hand Snell $200M+. Someone probably will once the desperation settles in and Boras will happily wait until camp starts if need be. This literally happens almost every year.

How are Getz & Barfield the “architects” of the s%*# show Royals? I already called out Gene Watson being a suspect hire if that’s who you are referring to. I can assure you that Wong had very little to do with designing the on-field product for the Royals if that’s what you are implying. -
Also, the Dodgers literally went out and said “f*** waiting until the deadline, I’m going to give Yamamoto the biggest contract ever and give up real talent for a talented but fragile arm making significant money”. And the Dodgers can say “what if Gonsolin is healthy”, but I don’t think they’ll like the answer to that question ?

Are you suggesting there isn’t a major demand-supply imbalance for SP right now?
