  1. I don’t think we can do one before year 4 and I doubt that’s a deal-breaker if we’re willing to do close to 10/$400M.
  2. Can you just tell us what you know without sharing images? It would be very much appreciated!
  3. I’m sure the trust fund kids care about the luxury tax, at least until they get a taste of that new TV money.
  4. Yup, Eloy is never going to be Alex Gordon out in LF, but he should be respectable enough. There should never be a rush to move an OF to first base unless they’re absolutely killing you in the field.
  5. That’s a pretty big if. They really don’t have the assets to move one of their terrible contracts without it being completely counter-productive.
  6. Don’t feel bad for him, he’ll be a Soxtalk legend if this all proves out being true!
  7. I’d normally agree, but I truly believe things are moving much faster this year. And Harper is just a different bread and I could see him wanting to steal the spotlight in his hometown if possible.
  8. With all the activity that’s happened prior to the Winter Meetings, it does seem a bit more likely Harper may agree to a deal next week.
  9. Agreed. Fry is a lock for a spot. Bummer & Frare will compete for the second lefty spot. And Benuelos will compete for the long-reliever role. I don’t see us adding another lefty unless it’s to a minor league deal.
  10. What he should do and what people will do are not one and the same though. It’s only human nature to not want a constant reminder of their biggest fuck-up. That being said, I’m not suggesting that would be the only reason Hahn would not bring him back. He’s simply not good anymore and if you’re Rick why not bring someone in with more upside and less baggage?
  11. They won’t bring him back. First, he’s a bad pitcher that offers zero upside. Second, the last thing Hahn wants is an everyday reminder of the Tatis trade when young Fernando is potentially making headlines. It simply won’t happen.
  12. Right now I think most experts believe he can be an average-ish LF in the short-term. At some point, he may get too big & slow for the position, but hopefully that’s a few years out. I think the Sox will keep him in the OF until someone in the minors forces the issue.
  13. Then I hope Uncle Jerry fires Rick immediately because that would be a ridiculously stupid move.
  14. The biggest challenge we face trying to convince these guys to come play for us is making it clear that the rebuild is in it’s ending stage and we expect to be playoff contenders by 2020. So while I don’t think either guy necessarily cares about protection in 2019, optically trading Abreu sends the wrong message and for that reason alone it won’t happen.
  15. I’d be pretty pissed if we let go of Avi to sign Nick Markakis. It would basically be the equivalent of giving 200 more innings to James Shields.
  16. Fathom, I normally like your ideas, but this is a terrible suggestion. We have significant financial flexibility, we should not be trading valuable assets for an over 30 DH. If you’re concerned about Fry’s health (which is fair) then trade him for prospects and sign Cruz.
  17. Why are we trading our best reliever (left-handed no less) for a 30 year old DH? Why not just sign Cruz?
