  1. This is why I’ve been whining about Lopez being a two pitch pitcher most of the year. When he has the complete arsenal (change & curve included) working he can be damn good and the fastball becomes a legit weapon. Reynaldo & Giolito suddenly look like legit major leagues and that would greatly accelerate this rebuild.
  2. Jack, you know I’ve got nothing but respect for you, but baseball is a business. If you want to blame anyone for this situation, blame the veteran players that agreed to a CBA that allows these type of loopholes. They put their own short-term interests over those of the future members of their union. Eloy no doubt deserves a promotion, but the Sox have to think big picture here and that’s keeping him down until mid April of next year. If he feels so victimized by this, he should fight hard for future players’ rights during the next CBA negotiation. Unfortunately if history has taught us anything, he & others will only care about their pockets and the future Eloy Jimenez’s will be the ones to pay the price.
  3. It’s the right call at this point. I’m not sure why people feel bad for Eloy when he will still make millions upon millions over the course of his career. A six week delay to his major league debut doesn’t change that.
  4. I agree it was a massive failure in talent evaluation, but why negotiation?
  5. The North Side & South Side are part of the same city / market. And I’d wager there would be a lot more endorsement opportunities being the uncontested star of the White Sox than just another one of the Yankees.
  6. He’s going to make the league minimum next year, there’s no reason to move on from him. Just can’t rely on him being an 8th inning fixture and need to make sure we have some depth.
  7. Sounds like McKinnon will miss the season after an ankle injury today. Who is the back to own in SF now? The obvious answer would be Breida, but a 49ers best writer said Morris might be the beneficiary. Anyone have thoughts here?
  8. Yeah, all four could be part of our next good bullpen. Burdi & Bummer too. I am bit surprised that they’re keeping Burr up here for good (which it seems) given how few innings he had at Charlotte, but I’m not going to complain about that.
  9. Excited to see what this kid is all about. Doesn’t sounds like he has a big fastball, but damn has he been successful in the minors. And what’s interesting is he was just as effective against righties as he was lefties for the Knights.
  10. While I’m fully supportive & excited about the trade, let’s not ignore we’re giving up two 1st round picks PLUS making him the highest paid defensive player in the game.
  11. All depends on the money. And quite frankly, we should have more than anyone. Now is not the time to be frugal with our cash. We desperately need to add a transformational free agent to signal the rebuild is over and to build some excitement in this team.
  12. If the young starters continue to look this good in September, it will most definitely be time to spend some money. People are fooling themselves if they think we’ll wait for all the W-S guys to get up before we start addressing holes. The Sox are going to sign some bridge free agents this offseason.
  13. It’s amazing that we can watch four games in a row and the starters are Lopez, Giolito, Kopech, & Rodon.
  14. This is all sounds good in theory and I’d like to believe it, but Lopez was fastball / slider for the vast majority of this year. He was barely using his change-up for long stretches, which is what he should have been focusing on during a rebuild season. Quite frankly, it doesn’t make any sense at all and makes me wonder if Reynaldo simply didn’t use the change-up because he wasn’t comfortable with it. And if that’s the case, then Cooper & our coaching staff failed him by not forcing him to do what’s in his long-term best interests. Again, just my take, but I can’t really see how being strictly fastball / slider was somehow part of a bigger development plan.
  15. I’ve been harping on this all season and was ecstatic when he brought back the curve in his last start. If that pitch is here to stay and he’s willing to commit to the change-up, the kid will have a four pitch arsenal and IMO will be a quality major league starter in the long-run. Also, I get a laugh when people say his fastball sucks and cite his pitch value on Fangraphs as proof. It’s clear that certain people don’t understand how that metric works. Teams have been sitting on his fastball because he was throwing it way too much. If he has other pitches he can use to keep hitters honest / off-balanced, Lopez’s fastball suddenly becomes a weapon.
  16. Holy schnikes!! The Bears might actually be pretty fucking good this year! I can’t remember the last time I could say that with a straight face.
  17. I’ve now spent a good $400+ to see five innings of Michael Kopech. But at least the elotes were good.
  18. Anyone know how long this is supposed to last? I took my 4 1/2 year to his first game tonight and I’d hate to leave, but I don’t want here with him for hours.
  19. Yes, but the person who could have been protected would have ultimately been let go in late April next year when we added Hamilton to the 25 man. I really don’t think that element is a big deal.
  20. We were going to add him by late April anyways, so I’m not sure it’s that big of a deal.
