Ozzie isn't very good on the Pre/Post-Game
jamesdiego replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can understand NBC wanting time cut some fat off the budget and wanting to cut bait with some names. But Jerry still owns 50% of the station though, amirite? It’s a nice cover for Jerry to go “oh man, this is too bad what nbc is doing to our Leila here, what a shame. Oh well”. But this isn’t something quite 100% out of his control. He certainly had the power and coin to decide to step up and pay the salary of a very well liked broadcaster covering his teams. What’s Jerry’s wealth? Is he pretty much a billionaire right? He’s gotta be up there. He’s made quite a lot of money off this market, much at the benefit of taxpayers with the sweetheart Sox park deal. There is a pandemic going around and there’s been some great stories of much less well off business owners stepping up for their employees during these times. Some good hearts at work. I’m certainly not in the guys shoes, but I hope that if I was as rich as he is I would pay an loyal employee during a pandemic of all times. Especially an extremely well liked one, just taking a peak on her twitter there some very upset fans who support his two teams. NBC I’m sure also left the choice up to the Sox and they chose Our Chuck, which I’m also not happy about since he’s definitely inferior to her. But I’m sure he’s probably all buddy buddy with Sox people more and Jerry is being “loyal” to his guy. -

Yo, Leila Rahimi got fired?? She was the best In the studio for pre/ post game. Chuck is burnt toast in comparison. He’s a nice guy and all, but I personally find his act annoying and old. Come on Jerry, you cheap fuck. I’m sure her salary wasn’t going to drain your money bags. Should have just let Kaplan go to Marquee, let him. Hope Leila lands a gig. Now we get ducking Chuck everyday, good fucking lord. Someone with way more soxtalk skills than I will ever have please do a poll between Leila and Our Chuck. -

Omar Vizquel will not return to managing in white sox system in 2020
jamesdiego replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For everyone painting the narrative that Omar hates analytics. The reality is that it sounds like he was fully on board educating himself and it’s knows it’s a requirement to have that knowledge in order to get his managerial shot. Article from this last April: “I’m still learning more about the game, and how everything is run now with the whole sabermetrics thing, how do you use that and apply it to the game and still know about numbers and all this stuff. If you can balance it out with the things that you learn, I think you have a chance to be a successful manager in the big leagues someday.” Vizquel played in an era that was not as heavily focused on analytics and advanced statistics, which took some time to adjust to when he became the manager of the Winston-Salem Dash, Chicago’s Advanced Single-A affiliate. “You’ve got to do a lot of the percentages now,” Vizquel said. “It’s weird that now, you have a calculator right next to your lineup so you can calculate a person. That’s where the game is now. It’s evolving so much. Everybody’s doing it, even the umpires are involved with the strike zones and everything. It’s interesting to start knowing a little deeper the secrets of the game.” www.wkyc.com/amp/article/sports/mlb/indians/indians-legend-omar-vizquel-hoping-to-turn-minor-league-experience-into-mlb-opportunity/95-1a10a2f5-6057-42d4-a2be-8f2df6f06c19 I agree with others about the bunting and benching, and that Jirschele sounds pretty good. But Omar sounds like he actually was putting in the effort on learning and applying analytics. I really wonder if Ricky busts out the calculator while making the lineup, or if it’s all his trustworthy gut. -
Well, I’m convinced. Puig sounds like a stand up guy and good teammate. “He is the worst person I've ever seen in this game," one ex-Dodger who believes Puig is beyond redemption said flatly. "Ever.” "I guarantee you they're trying to get rid of him," one source with a rival club said of Puig. "There's no question he's a problem. In my mind, he's a problem anywhere he goes. "He's Hanley Ramirez: He's a cancer on a ball club." https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2597460-is-there-anybody-left-in-los-angeles-whom-yasiel-puig-hasnt-alienated?utm_source=twitter.comScott Miller Puig argued with teammates over who should be allowed on a plane ride that typically includes wives and girlfriends. The subject of someone from Puig's entourage joining the traveling crew came up, and sources told Yahoo Sports that Puig argued with pitcher Zack Greinke and nearly came to blows with infielder Justin Turner over the matter. Passan also reports that a Dodgers player who asked to remain unnamed said trading Puig would be "addition by subtraction." https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/new-book-outlines-problems-between-yasiel-puig-teammates/amp/ (Game 2 of the 2017 World Series, Puig missed a critical catch) Puig wasn’t ready for the pitch and got a late jump. He was out of position, shaded too far toward center field. He often ignored the positioning card distributed to Dodgers defenders before games; according to six people familiar with the situation, he on several occasions ripped up the card in front of outfield coach George Lombard and left the pieces on the ground. In the eyes of Dodgers officials, Puig was unprepared at a time when negligence might mean the difference between a title and heartbreak. “There were always things like that,” manager Dave Roberts said one day this spring. “Taking plays off.” according to interviews with more than 20 current and former Dodgers, coaches and executives. Tardiness plagued Puig. His attention wavered. His preparation waned. He ran the bases with enough recklessness that teammates joked Puig thought he was invisible. He hassled staffers. He ignored suggestions from coaches. He rejected entreaties from teammates. The Dodgers utilize advanced metrics and lasers to guide their fielders. Puig believed he could read swings and trust his instincts. FanGraphs has rated him a below-average fielder for five of his six seasons, but Puig considered himself elite. That led to the positioning cards being torn up. “The hard part was he’d always have a knee-jerk reaction, and try to point out something that you did, a year ago,” Turner said. “Like, ‘Oh, you did this! It’s OK for you?’” Corey Seager shrugged his shoulders. He could not conjure a favorite story about Yasiel Puig. “Uh . . . not really,” Seager said. “Not really, without, like, bashing him.” For the Dodgers, the grievances had added up. Puig showed up late to meetings. He did not do the necessary work to prevent injury. He was uninterested in instruction. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-yasiel-puig-dodgers-legacy-reds-20190414-story.html%3F_amp%3Dtrue

Tired of seeing Yolmer Sanchez in starting lineup
jamesdiego replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yea Jay is a better player, but what purpose is he here for? Is he going to bring anything in trade? He’s not gonna be here next year. A bench spot might be between Cordell and Tilson next year. I’d like to see Charlie get some at bats (more than once a week) to see what he can do. -

jamesdiego replied to SweatyFreddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yolmer isn’t all we have at 2nd base. He is the most easily replaceable person on the team. He’s been giving plenty of chances and it’s time to say goodbye. Mendick has earned a shot and should be given given a chance to see what he can do before Magical takes over 2nd permanently. If they feel to loyal to the Yolmer to cut him right now then just make him the backup infielder and send Rondon to Charlotte when Timmy gets back. Then have Garcia, Jay and Cordell switch between the 2 outfielder spots. Though I’d prefer to also get rid of Jay to see what Tilson can do with more playing time. -
Sox probably put Cordell at CF. I could see them just have Garcia SS, Rondon 3b and Yolmer at 2nd. Call up Goins to back up If Mendick can play SS I wouldn’t mind him come up to see what he can do. Even if he can’t play SS well they could stick him at 3b and put Rondon at SS, Garcia back to CF.
-
You need a strong arm for SS though. Sometimes needing to make throws while going away from first base. I don’t think Yolmer has that arm to play there for longer than emergencies. Garcia and Rondon have strong enough arms.
-
Can Sanchez even play SS with his arm? From what I remember it was too weak for SS. Which makes sense since they barely play him there. If Sanchez can’t play SS then we shouldn’t be so eager to trade Rodon who can do so halfway decently. How is Mendicks defense at SS?

And disco was far from just associated with blacks and Hispanics as shown above.
-
Yea, but the death of disco lead to the evolution of house music. The music had went underground, became more raw by removing the commercial garbage aspects of most disco that had over saturated the airwaves. Killing disco was a good thing in the end and was necessary as it became a caricature of the actual quality disco sound. Like the Philly Salsoul sound that was and is still great. So much crap was being pushed onto people that I don’t blame them one bit for hating disco. It wasn’t just taking over radio, it was all over tv Brady Bunch disco Chips Disco 7up disco Toys R Us disco Disco McDonalds burgers

I don’t see any possibility that Lazano or Boras leaked the 175. For Lazano it will of course devalue his client. And if Boras leaked it would hurt Harpers value. Boras needs Machado to sign a good deal which then he would then try to beat. With yesterday’s side show I am of the mind that the Sox leaked 175. If their real offer if I’m 210-225 ballpark but Lozano is leaking Sox offer 250 to get the Phils to pony up, the Sox could play the same game and stick it to them by throwing out the 175. Unique situation with 2 guys for 2 teams, it’s making this negotiation a bit wacky.
-
I don’t feel confident as everyone else is that this will be ending soon. Seeing the Machado camp leak the 8 years /250 to try to stir up some competition. And seeing the Sox leak 7 yrs and shoot that claim right down. This maybe could really drag on awhile with Machado’s camp really pushing for 300 territory and the Sox digging in their heels. I could see another week or 2-3 weeks of this. I hope its over when I wake up tomorrow. Doubt it.
-
I think the Sox definitely leaked a low # to attempt to throw philly off, but 200 sounds too low. It sounds like too much of a bullshit off. I don’t think the actual offers are anywhere in the ballpark. I think they’re really close to 280, but how do the Sox and Philly know what each really are offering. Sox trying to keep Philly’s offer south of 300ish. JR fully expected the offers to possibly be up in 300 range before this all started. Think JR is trying to prevent this bididing to get out of hand and reach 340 territory with the Philly’s Stupid money. In my opinion I think itje signing ends up around 300 to 320.

Easily the worst comment I've seen on this site.

Sounded before like the White Sox originally wanted to transition from Ventura to Sandy Alomar Jr before Ricky. He checks the boxes of being a former player and first time manager. And latino so can still relate to the latin players like Ricky has. I imagine he would bunt less. Better in game decisions? Who knows?

Ed leaves much to be desired in trying to find out what is going on in the game. But in the end I like their weirdness on the radio. DJ is a treasure, so much better than when he was with Hawk. I for one love the wittiness of Jason. But I agree with already stated that I could do without hearing about who hit a home run off of Stoney 30 years ago. I kind of like the idea of switching things up and putting DJ on TV with Jason, that would be awesome. And put the older fellas together on the radio. No one gets fired, lifetime loyalty intact. I agree that Frank was awesome with the Hawk. Hawk is much better to listen to every once in a while.
-
Yea, I call b.s. on this story. No way the name Kopech leaves Hahn’s lips. I think this is Baltimore leaking this to drum up better offers from the other teams. I don’t even really see Giolitto on the table, at least I hope not.

Sox operate under the radar. I could see a huge Stealth operation in the works for this kid. This is something I could see Kenny being in charge of, probably salivating all day long about the prospect of adding Ohtani. Wouldn't surprise me if they get Brooks to make a promo video of all the young talent we have. Show to healing hands of Herm. Pitcher whispering ability of Cooper. Hopefully they send his reps the usa today article detailing the organizations amazing way in keeping players healthy. Would not hurt in the least to show them the statistics of injuries in the league. USA Today They also might be might be interested in the info that the Rangers, Dodgers and Yankees are all near the top of the list for most days players were on the disable list from 2001-2015. Wouldn't hurt to throw a stick in competitors bicycle wheels, while at the same time showing off: Fangraphs -

You don't say.. Hahn needs to fully inform the kid on his thinking that the Sox will have the best hitting and pitching prospects 3 years in a row. There isn't a future more brighter than ours. He can grow with it. The Sox being only able to pay 400k compared to others means nothing when he can probably get hundreds of millions through endorsements. And he'll be getting his huge contract through MLB soon enough anyways. Also, emphasize to Otani that the Sox are the ones who have the ability and knowledge to keep his body healthy and strong to play both sides of the ball. And hell, make Tadahito an assistant coach. -

Sox have had the magic with the rebuild so far, maybe they could pull another rabbit out of their hat. Most definitely worth a shot. I would make a strong effort on what I think are selling points that might be very attractive to him. First is all the young potentially very good players. Make detailed highlight reels and bios on Abreu, Avi, Moncada, Giolito, Kopech, Jimenez, Robert, Hanson and others. He could really like the fact the young guys are new acquisitions like himself and they could grow into something special together. Play up the DH aspect of the American League. Yes, he could play first base but he would be able to get more at bats as a DH. He will probably need a day off after a pitching start even as a DH. But he may need more time if he needs to go out in the field for defense. I would sell hard the aspect of having Cooper as the pitching coach. Hi longevity and stability with the team, his ability to bring the very best out of pitchers. And his uncanny ability to keep more pitchers healthy than other teams, sell Herm and his magic too. Sell the fact we are the underdog. From reading that story he sounds like he is a different breed. Choosing the local underdog team instead of a more popular national one in high school. Forgoing hundreds of millions to come over to the Majors this year. He might not be so drawn to the most popular teams of the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs. Sell the family feel/ loyalty aspect of the franchise. Maybe tell him the team would hire a close confidant of his to be with the club, along with a translator. Ask Tadahito to be a point man. He seems to have very good feelings of the club and his time here, perfect timing with him coming over and being with the team. Give Shingo a call as well. Might as well go all out for the kid, there is nothing to lose over a possible once in a generation player. He might very well like what he hears about the White Sox. Very unlikely, but I wouldn't put it past the team after what they pulled off this last year. Sure made me a believer. -
