-
Gotta keep a running tally on how many jenks-for-crawford threads pop up. over/under 15?
-
I'm really looking forward to an offseason filled with hilarious trade proposals.
-
konerko to the angels for figgins and kotchman
GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN
-
I might be totally wrong but I just can't picture a notoriously thrifty team shelling out for a player with question marks like Jenks. I imagine they will fill gaps internally or with cheap FA like usual.
A little Marlins-probing...

A closer deal isn't impossible, mind you, but it just seems unlikely.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 04:55 PM)The Marlins need a closer. Unlike the Nationals, the Marlins have a lot of talent on the field. Mike Stanton (one of the best prospects in all of baseball) is on his way too.
The Marlins also had a 36 million dollar payroll in 2009. Pretty sure they won't increase that amount enough to make paying Bobby a smart move. No team is going to want to pay their closer 15+% of payroll.
I should add - unless he is a top 5 in baseball closer like joe nathan or mo rivera. then, maybe.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 04:52 PM)I doubt that the Angels will want Jenks back, especially after they dumped him for alcohol and attitude problems.
tru, tru
Truth be told the market isn't looking good for moving Jenksy.
-
The Marlins have some interesting players they'll probably try to move to save money or lose to free agency. Nick Johnson, the revitalized Kiko Calero, Cody Ross, Jeremy Hermida, maybe even...Dan Uggla??!?!! It would take prospects to get Ross or Uggla but maybe it could be looked into?
-
Jenks has little value to a team like the Nats or Marlins so that won't happen. The Phils have the need but i've heard their payroll is bumping against its ceiling. Maybe if the win the Series again. He might get some looks from the Angels, given Fuentes' disappointing season. Dunno what to expect, but it will happen fast if it happens at all.

Plus everytime I saw him play I could say "Time to make the donuts!"
-
DH + Herm
So maybe 250.
-
Yeah, a Linebrink comeback and Pena making strides and all of a sudden you've got a pretty good pen. Still need another lefty though. Not sure where they're gonna get one of those! (RRRAAAAAANNDY doesn't count)
-
The top ROY guys are probably Gordo, Porcello, Andrus, Anderson and Romero. Of those guys i'd take Anderson or Gordon, with Andrus real close behind.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 08:01 PM)Peavy wouldnt be pitching if they were tanking.
Ok, just the hitters then.
-
So its just a known at this point the Sox are trying to lose every game, right?
-
Tigers have a better playoff rotation and thus a better chance to knock off the yankees, so them.
It'd be pretty funny if there was a repeat of the 2006 world series this year.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 08:48 AM)Please, we are made of filler. Players like Shelby and Ely are ideal package deal pieces. We're not going to blow anyone out of the water, but we can get solid mid-tier deals done .I like the idea of going after Ross/Hermida and Pinto/Tankersley from the Marlins. They have a pressing need to clear space for Maybin, and both can be had for a worthy price. It would be great to have a young, OPB-oriented, power bat, and a second lefty for the pen.
That was my argument - that they didn't have the bullets for the pie-in-the-sky trades usually proposed in threads like this. The Sox have plenty of mid-range fodder to pick up bullpen arms and comeback candidates like Hermida. I've been advocating trading for him for a while. Guys like Reyes or Upton, though, are probably out of Kenny's reach.
-
I don't think KW pulls off a big trade this offseason. More like gathering a few pieces and filling some holes. Not because the Sox don't need help (they do, and lots of it) but because he simply has no trade bait. Hermida can be had for next to nothing i'm guessing. Beyond that, probably some attempts at under the radar stuff like usual.
-
He's kinda like Milton Bradley but not insane.
If KW really wants to go the OBP route he would be a good way to start. He'd probably bring up the team OBP by 10 points by himself.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:25 AM)Neither is Nick Johnson...
Thats why you get both!
j/k I don't think thats a realistic or good plan.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if Alexei got dealt.
I WOULD be surprised if Gavin did, but right now he has a lot of value.
-
Maybe if they signed Nick Johnson and rotated Flowers at 1st. Kotsay isn't a full time player.
