  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Maybe, just maybe, if the White Sox constantly have rosters that "look good on paper" and none of those teams made the playoffs and most weren't close...it's time to reevaluate how you're judging that the team looks good on paper, because the method you're using to judge that is failing. Sure thing. But if Peavy hadn't ripped his back muscle off his spine and TCQ actually recovered from punching a locker I have no doubt there would have been more playoff appearances. If Adam Dunn wasn't a pile of horsemeat, there would have been some more playoffs. I'm not saying the FO is perfect but I think people need to cut them some slack when they point their finger clammoring like an old drunk, "16 years, 2 playoffs!" That's insane. The team looked darn good every year on paper from 2001-2013. Many devastating injuries to key personnel. It's been 3 years since they decided to flip cores & go young, cut them some slack. Almost competed during the process too.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Let's see Samardzija and Frazier were the "all in" acquisitions. And some James Shields for lagniappe. Todd Frazier OPS: .747 Marcuse Semien OPS: .746 Mighty fine talent evaluation there, Rick. After 8 years of trying short cuts with "elite veterans" and failing miserably, one would think Williams and Hahn would have learned something. 8 years? What are you talking about? Most of those years had badass rosters that looked competitve on paper. "Hey Paulie, screw your prime and your last good years, we're going to get some prospects. Piss off you old goateed-sometimes fool." GMAB
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 04:59 AM) Sure, if he can give you 3+ war per season like Semien...how it can already be looking like a winner when he hasn't thrown a single major league pitch is pretty farfetched. It MIGHT be a winner. We all know he hasn't thrown a pitch yet. It's not a bad trade if he's a lockdown bullpen piece moving forward. Just admit it would be nice to have a dependable guy to help the Sox bot piss all these 1-run games away next year. A draft pick that contributes to the major league club winning games is a good draft pick no matter where he is drafted. And this quickly? Mercy, that's a home run of a pick. I can live with Semien and his stone hands contributing elsewhere.
  4. Hell yea. Screw the service time argument, it's not relevant. The Sox plan to contend next season so let's see if Mr. Fireballs can anchor a critical spot in the pen. Looking like the Samardzija for Burdi trade might be a winner.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) or set him back a year. We will find out next spring Possible but I think it's more likely the brass wanted to show him how certain things he does won't work in the big leagues. Just seems like the only way calling him up early makes sense. The sox are aware of service time and developmental time and they chose this course of action. They know what they're doing with their pitching prospects. Amazing people doubt that, simply amazing.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 17, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) They've been trying that. Not trying. They're doing that. Look beyond the record the last two years. Trades junk for shark to get an extra first rounder. Traded junk for Frazier. Found out Saladino is a baller. Young pitching is developing nicely. Might have our new CFer in Tilson. Anderson is awesome. Young guys doing great in the minors- more legit prospects than ever. Meanwhile we've been competitive. I'm still behind the FO. We've got huge trade chips in Melky & Frazier next year. The Sox are looking good moving forward if they stay the course.
  7. I'm glad he was called up and stuffed in the pen. He learned he can get guys out up here but he also learned how much better he has to be. Now he knows. Nice job FO. Probably saved him a whole bunch of development time
  8. I like everything about how they handled Fulmer. Everything. Bullpen in Chicago wqs a perfect way to bite his innings but more importantly expose him to the quality of hitters in the majors. Plus the main man big daddy Coop got to spill his undeniable and unarguable wisdom into his ear. I can't wait to see the next version of Fulmer.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 09:13 PM) Cool. Hope he's ready. Yea. Sure looks like he's at least good at two things: kickin ass & striking dudes out.
  10. What a steal of a pick at that draft position. Holy moly. I for one don't want the Sox to stretch him out into a starter at all. If he is a dominant reliever throwing 100mph like it's nothing then I feel much better about 2017. So glad the Sox didn't draft some high school batter with upside at that position. Looks like a slam dunk perfect pick.
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) How has he looked so far in the minor leagues? I thought I saw where at first he was struggling. Mark Where'd you hear that? I mean we all know he had that rough debute game but was nails after that.
  12. Farewell & adieu to you fine Spanish ladies...
  13. My favorite thing so far in this crazy election is Obama calling Trump unqualified. Holy smokes Obama! While this may be true, you were a senator for like 9 minutes and spent the entire time prepping for a slam dunk election. The pot and the kettle are both black Mr. President. Let's not forget you were technically the least qualified ever, regarding service time in positions of leadership. Not trying to bash Obama and make people defensive, just pointing out the hilarity & absurdity.
  14. I'm really hoping this is an offyear for him too. If only he would have been Mashing Abreu the first half...his bat could have carried the team out of that funk fast.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) I still can't believe we were 23-10. Solid fundamental baseball. Winning close games. It looked like the back end of the bullpen was gonna be solid with several guys having roles. Then predictably one meltdown game and the whole season was over. Team couldn't overcome that choke and that was that. You are right, the baseball gods are laughing at this sorry team. I thought 23-10 was a large enough sample size. Man was I wrong. Our team went from crisp, exciting, great at winning close games to total horses***. I'm the biggest apologist for all things FO on down to Robin. But your post just made me feel differently. I think the players need a sterner, more commanding voice next year, someone to steer the ship in rough waters. I feel like Robin just rides out the storm instead of getting all hands on deck while he's up in the dangerous crows nest. Enough ship talk, sorry dudes.
  16. I thought using the Muslim family with the slain soldier for political gain was pretty low. Trump responded like an idiot but the fact that the media accepted that as a headline story was just low. Just felt dirty in general and I don't think that does honor to the dead. I know everybody from both parties loves to "bring out the victims to show the human side"...just don't like it ever. Just my take
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) 1. Rodon's development 2. Anderson's development 3. Tilson- see if he can play ball 4. Sale starts This all I'm really paying attention to the rest of the way. May not go to another game. Yes. Maybe we all need to look at this year as the preseason to next year. We have some great pieces and need to spend the rest of the year seeing which of our homegrown guys can secure positions for next year. The pitching staff for next year looks damn good. If Tilson can man CF adequately, then Hahn needs to sign Cespedes no excuses and slide Melky to DH. Catcher I dunno.
  18. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Ok, so come up with a realistic trade that will provide the SOX with fair value, and has a chance to happen. I've asked several posters to do so, and we haven't seen it happen. Now, I would be perfectly happy with trading Sale and Q and ANY player in the roster, IF (and ONLY if) full & fair value can be attained. That said, a trade of Sale won't happen at this deadline because Sale should cost WAY too much in trade, & to acquire Sale would gut their org. You can't quantify fair value with dollar amounts only. And you're using the terms FAIR VALUE & SURPLUS VALUE like these are some kind of new concepts you are presenting. Yes, man, the Sox need to win the trade on paper, which means a lot of good players are traded for their one good player. We all get it. Welcome though
  19. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) I Think it depends on how you define "blowing it." If the mouthbreathers in the front office trade away assets for less than FULL VALUE, yes that would be "blowing it." The craptacular returns for swisher & peavey hurt this organization every bit as much as the stupid acquisitions of mediocre veterans like Jeff S. Stranger Things have happened
  20. So sorry man. I got my first little guy coming 14 weeks from now and that picture brought me to tears. I'll be praying for you guys; God bless you, your family & little Josiah.
  21. Ugh that would mean I'd have to go look at Bruce's stats. I just refuse to do that
  22. Wow Hendricks got 4 or 5 reeeeal borderline calls. Hope Shields gets em too
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 23, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) I'm tired of Cubz fans like Jeff Passan sh_itting on the White Sox and hoping that they tank for 10 seasons then move the franchise out of Chicago. Give Sale and the Sox a break already. This is a young man in a competitive game where emotions sometimes boil over. Sale might have had a few drinks before the game and came in a little tipsy and combative. The entire Sox organization from the players to upper management have been under a lot of pressure this year. Lts of close losses and heart breaking games. Fans, especially cubz fans, need to back the eff off. Wisdom.
