I think saladino is our smartest hitter in the box. He's the first Sox hitter to actually play the game in the box since maybe Konerko? The rest of our team just swings hard as f*** at the baseball like children. Saladino always looks like he's playing the game- rare skill these days.
-
I could definitely see him opting out to sign with a CA team, money be damned. Maybe EJ straight up
-
How does the opt-out clause factor into negotiating leverage? Are the Sox able to offer less since they can say "Well we might only have him for 20 starts."
-
lol at sending him down a level. Why, so some younger dudes can swing at his wild bulls***? I'd promote him to the majors before I demoted him but I'm just some random dude who likes baseball and not a GM.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2016 -> 06:23 PM) Amazing how Crede is thought of as an all-time great and thome is brushed aside Agree with the Crede. After 06 I identified Thome as the entire problem with the White Sox. He was brutal to watch IMO. I know he somehow got on base, but he made me want to create a whole new statistic to send into fangraphs: POBP- Pointless On Base Percentage. Or OBP that doesn't help a team.
-
At least the corpses of the late 2000's hit homers sometimes. Outside of 2006, Thome was one of the worst things to ever happen to the white sox. Konerko, Thome & Dye had zero wheels. Needed three hits to score Thome. This is a different version of suckball.

Report: Rangers getting new ballpark

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:06 PM) When the old post office inevitably goes into development hell, the Sox need to be all over it. Yes. I'm picturing 50 helicopters carrying the cell over there. -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) His ability to call pitches before they happen is truly excellent. He's an amazing analyst, and when he calls games with Jason he's like a new guy. I can't believe how much I miss Hawk & DJ.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 18, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Sure but it's a silver lining nevertheless. 2-5 in the last 7 games but still a run differential of +3 in that span. Makes you feel a lot better than if they'd been blown out in each of those 5 losses. For sure. The pitching in general feels like it's on thin ice in general. It may not crack all year but there's serious potential for it. I feel like our rotation is comprised of two #1s, two #4.5s and a #5.5. Bullpen needs another power arm too.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) It's Extremely accurate in trades where Sox acquire an accomplished player. It's been true since Kenny Williams started making trades and Hahn has continued the tradition of vastly overpaying, if not amped it up a notch. Caufield's list is instructive because it shows the Sox are pretty good at making trades for players that haven't yet accomplished a lot in the majors. Why the Sox don't stick to those I have no idea except that the last 2 field staffs have had a general distaste for developing young players. Now that's just some straight up trolling my dude. I don't think the Sox have really lost a trade since 2000. Swisher, but how could they see that coming? I give Hahn/KW a pass there.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 11, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) But ideally, whats acceptable? 99 percent? 80 percent? Wonderful point. Robin's been great this year with the pen. I think when posters flame Ventura for bullpen management they are forgetting a major major factor: Yes splits mattter but bullpen managing is mostly gut and feel for your guys. A manager doesn't know if a guy is going to "have it" when he comes in. Guys play sick, guys play when personal issues are in their heads, guys play when they don't get sleep the night before, guys play tired, guys just don't "have it" some days. I'd argue it's 90% feel and knowing your guys and 10% splits, metrics, saber bs etc. -

I think Saladino makes that first play too -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ May 10, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Total Kenny deal. Thank God he doesn't run trades. Prove it. I can't remember him ever giving up a top prospect for a rental. Masset doesn't count D Hudson doesn't count E Escobar doesn't count Obviously Gio doesn't apply Bassitt, Phegley, Semien, Ravelo obviously doesn't count Ely doesn't count Excuse me if I'm forgetting one

Avila back off of the DL, Sanchez down
Jerksticks replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Wanne @ May 9, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) This. I thought Avila was getting WAAAAAAY too much PT before he got hurt anyway. Truth but I like the idea of seeing if Avila can heat up with the bat. Be a good problem to have. Maybe just run it 50/50 for a couple weeks and see what happens? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) Latos should be the fifth (NOW)...we're not going with what they're projected to be or what we expect them to be in July. You can make an argument for Hammel/Lackey as well. All good candidates. Second base probably goes to Lawrie for that same reason as well. Zobrist has been hot recently, but Lawrie's been better overall, is much younger and has better defensive range to boot. (Or you can make the argument Lawrie's been more important to the team's overall energy, athleticism and has contributed more percentage-wise to the Sox offense getting kick started.) You could say Ross or Navarro, but both are well short of the qualified number of at-bats. Good points caulfield. Yea it should be based on the here and now. Would be fun to update every month- maybe Rodon scrathes out another one of their starters

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I feel like the Twins always give Sale some trouble For real. Twins accounted for probably half his earned runs last year. Mercy -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) First of all, it would look completely inappropriate for him to take exorbidant speaking fees as "First Man." They probably should put all the Clinton Foundation investments in a blind trust. Which husband and wife got along best in the White House? The Carters...probably the worst presidency of the modern era. It would be idiotic for Hilary not to take advantage of his insight and experience...that said, MANY things have changed in the sixteen years since he was last president. He looks frailer, weaker and less energetic. Can still give a great stump speech, far better than his wife, but that's not exactly a high standard to meet. Most would argue this is the ONLY reason she is in this position. Her only "qualification" for Senate, SoS, or the frickin Presidency of the Free World was that she was the emotionally abused wife of a President. She better kiss his feet every morning and listen to every damn word he has to say since he's the only reason she skipped to the front of the line. Nepotism scares me in this election- power is easily abused when one doesn't earn it justly.

Surging White Sox have earned Ventura new contract

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Someone is in full-on insult mode today. First the insult to GreenSox in another thread, and now this. What a wonderful contribution to the discourse around our first place team. Cmon dude, thicken the skin a little bit. AustinIllini is trolling with the "Imagine how good the Sox would be with a REAL manager" comment. That comment is so not based in fact it's comical, thereby deserving of any comment anybody says. The way I defend Hawk is similar; all heart & gut but no real fact. My opinion is that Robin has the boys playing at their top level right now, his bullpen use has been fabulous, his rotation shuffling has been really smart, and the players seem to be responding well. Looks damn good so far. Not anfan of Maddon and his arrogance- Robin is a man's man. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) Benetti has broadcast 11 regular season games to this point. Fair enough, but that's obviously not his point. No matter the experience he gets he'll never have played pro ball, he'll never understand the mental or physical side of the game, or anything relating to the human side of the game. To Benetti, the players aren't men, they're just amusing little mice with statistics. To Hawk, the players are living breathing men in the trenches of a war, with injuries, differing levels of intellect, different strategies, different levels of nervousness, different backgrounds etc. things Benetti will never be able to comment on. Thanks for telling me the guy's batting average benetti. I get it. He gets on base 34% of the time. That's what the number means. Oh, you want to use advanced statistics? How dare you act like you're teaching any of us baseball- you've never played. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he'll be great. This is just my hazing period for him. And rightfully so. No Sox fan should just hand over the keys without him earning it. It'll be hazing season for a while, hopefully a long while. He's trying to replace one of the most unique and iconic broadcasting figures this world has and will ever see. A true master and a true legend.

Hawk you da man! Thanks for teaching me how to talk cool as a young man growing up glued to your broadcasts. I hope we win the division this year for ya! You've done nothing but pour your heart into this team, this wonderful family that includes all the generations of fans, players, coaches etc. You've been like a second dad to many of us and I thank you for always keeping your broadcasts somewhat targeted to the kids- a real rarity in the today's game with all the robotic "voice guys" who never played sports.
