QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Not necessarily. I think as Frazier ages he will eventually become a first baseman and should provide a good glove, plus range and good power for the position. LaRoche is gone after '16 and Abreu could move into the DH slot. If Trey isn't ready, Lawrie could play 3B next year and use Sanchez/Saladino at 2B with hopefully Anderson at SS. I'm curious how common it is for a third baseman to shift over to 1B as he ages. Outside of Miguel Cabrera who are some other examples of plus-offensive guys moving from 3rd to 1st in the last few decades? Chipper went out to left, Arod doesn't apply to this convo, Beltre no, Rolen no. Is this really a thing?

Why dont we just get trayce back

QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I'm sure Frazier will be happy to sign a market-rate extension. We've only been dating a couple months Todd, let's at least live together for a year before we think about long-term. I know can he even cook n clean

What a wonderful idea! I love how smart our pitching coaches are. Try as I might, I've never been able to argue with anything they've ever said or done

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) No idea. The AL is wide open, everyone is going for it except maybe Oakland (but Beane could be going for it and we just dont know it yet). This is maybe the best the AL has been top-to-bottom in my lifetime, there are going to be a lot of teams with good rosters who are less than .500 after this year. Hadn't thought of this. I wonder if that idea suggests bullpens will be extra important this year. I guess I'm making the assumption that due to extreme parity there will be more close games. But maybe that's not true at all

Roll call! Black Sox Jerksticks Alexeihhhhyyyeees (love your name dude if i never said it) Littlehurt05 Dick Allen Sign up. Reading anything that spoiled turd Brett writes on bleachernation makes me want to puke. Yes, I troll that page. It's little battles like reminding them they tanked, that Sam Zell used their fanbase like an old whore, that their players are still prospects and may bust, or that now that they have Schwarber all the traditionalist-purity-of-the-NL-pitchers-need-to-hit-to-call-it-real-baseball whining phonies are going to turn heels and become the biggest hypocrites on earth clammoring for the DH when he posts a -50 dWAR this year. Winning those little battles of reminding them it's BS helps a bit. I'm going to need a therapist if they win

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 06:45 PM) I have never understood the constant bashing of KW for trading prospects. Blasting him for inability to develop would make sense, but an All Star team of the prospects he traded away probably couldn't win 40 games in a season. They'll never admit this DA. Never. It doesn't fit their argument. Or you'll hear "but but but Gio Gonzalez!" Most have cooled off on the Daniel Hudson chip for bashing, rightfully so. As well as Chris Carter. KW & RH don't really lose trades but why give them credit.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 10:46 PM) And if you look at the list of "left-handed run producers," not even considering position and fielding ability, the list is quite limited. Prince Fielder, CarGo, Adam Lind, Jay Bruce, Mitch Moreland (probably not available anyway), Ryan Howard, Pedro Alvarez, Josh Reddick, Dickerson (already traded), Blackmon, Justin Morneau, Brandon Moss, Chase Utley, Domonic Brown, Josh Hamilton, Pablo Sandoval, Daniel Murphy (already signed) So essentially, you're very quickly down to CarGo, Bruce, maybe Ethier, Josh Reddick and taking fliers on either Alvarez or Domonic Brown... Would you trade Beck to the Dodgers for Trayce back? Talk me out of it.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) Many of you act mature and above the crosstown s***flinging, but I dont. This may be one of those years that comes around so rarely where I root more against the Cubs than I do for the Sox. Let the hate flow through you. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) I'm a White Sox fan who hates the Cubs. I am not unique. It will not ever change. I hate them as much now as ever. I am sorry if some think it is offensive when I take great joy when the Cubs fail. It won't make me stop. But since they have already handed them the WS trophy for this season, I think the hatred goes up even further. These are spot-on masterpieces, spoken like true brothers. Welcome any time on my lands friends.

How do you know more needed to be done? I mean every person on this forum wishes one of AG, JU or YC chose the Sox. Nobody is disagreeing. But I can still easily see this team winning the division. Give Avi a half season, and then fire some farm bullets for a premium OF. I don't think some people realize just how loaded our farm is about to look

Latos still has fluid on knee, might not make opening day
Jerksticks replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Haha well I still think it's medium-balls/high-testicle but I'm no expert -
I wonder what the dodgers want for Trayce.

Say we sign Desmond for a few years. The benefit is that we could now trade Anderson & Avi for one helluvan OF. World Series?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) You said "I don't think a front office would ever even consider looking at WAR numbers when putting together a team." That's a lot different from ONLY using WAR numbers when putting together a team. I don't think anyone thinks FO only look at WAR. I see your point but I have to disagree. I don't see how WAR helps a front office evaluate players. I like WAR for fans, I really do, but I don't see why a FO would need to organize players in such a way.
-
All I'm saying is FOs employ tons of people to evaluate players across all metrics, including intangibles. They aren't gonna go the lazy route to evaluate where they spend millions of dollars. We're talking about millions of dollars here, not fanboy fantasy leagues.

QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Question for some on this board. What is up with this WAR fascination when determining if the guy is a good fit or not? I see alot of post where this guy is a 2 WAR and this guy is a 3 WAR. I'm not against any metrics at all and teams should try to use everything at their disposal to win games but WAR is the last thing i look at when determining if i want the player on my team. I don't need the WAR number of CESPEDAS, GORDON or UPTON to know that i wanted them on the Sox. I have no idea what is was not should i care. All i know that i wanted any of them with Gordon and Upton being most desirable because of the OBP. Some teams probably wanted Cespedas because they need the power. To each there own. Do most here look at war for a determination on what fits the Sox best? To me it's a non factor but maybe I'm in the minority. Thanx I will say this- I don't think a front office would ever even consider looking at WAR numbers when putting together a team.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) So who's a carpenter around here? I need a recommendation on some lumber and/or a lumber store/yard in the area. I'm finishing up my basement and as part of the project I want to build an office in a "nook" by the stairs. It's a decent space about 12 x 12 (plus the area under the stairs) and I want to get a desk in there with some under-the-stairs storage. Where two walls come together I want to build a large L-shaped corner desk. Something that looks more similar to a large span of countertop with some homemade shelving/storage underneath and/or room for a short filing cabinet or two. My question is about the desktop. Home Depot sells a 3/4 inch Birch plywood that's not cabinet grade but it's $50 bucks and comes in 4'x8' sheets. I could rip it in half and have my two desktops for the "L." But i'm a little concerned that since it's not cabinet grade the veneer could be too thin or there may be pockets of missing glue in the core (complaitns I've read online). But $50 bucks is a pretty cheap/attractive option. I don't care if the veneer has some imperfections since i'm going to stain it dark, but obviously I don't want it to be "bouncy" and not solid either. Through Menards I can get the same 4x8 sheet but cabinet grade oak veneer plywood for about $100. Better quality, but it's special order so I'd be praying the sheet isn't damaged/bent. The other option is trying to find a store that just sells solid 3/4" slabs of wood. Two 2 foot by 6 foot sections would be ideal. But I don't want to spend hundreds on each piece. Anyone do a similar project? Or know of a place to get the kind of wood I'm looking for? Where you located? If South you could check out Owl Lumber. You could get some 6/4 slabs of tree and have them plane those pups down. Not sure how much you want to spend but real hardwood isn't THAT expensive if you're only using it for a few slabs. WAY more fun DIY to take a piece of tree and make it look cool & be serviceable?

^^^Ding Ding frickin DING!!!^^^ Those bulls*** Scandanavian countries also only have like 10 million people. Total. That's not even New York City. And like dude said, they're all the same race and live in the same climate. Unbelievable when people suggest copying ANYTHING those people do. It's an insult to human brains. Like that s*** would fly here. Unbelievable.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) But that's not important. What's important is that they took Aaron Poreda a decade ago. Nervous guys will always be nervous guys. They'll always look for somebody to blame. Somebody to make an example of. Some guys are just raised to be nervous nellies instead of calm, big-picture-seeing men. I love our FO so much. I think it's the tightest group out there.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) I'm not going to give my thoughts on this until others have given their input. What would you think if every citizen in the country was given the RIGHT to work, as in a guarantee of employment after graduation from college or a vocational school? Where YOU have the power to leave your job if you're not happy, and are guaranteed training for your next job through a vocational school. Where YOU(and your co-workers), not some suits upstairs, decided who was to run things and how? Where everyone was guaranteed a living wage and those who wanted the extra responsibility could have it and were paid accordingly, or it was rotated over a time period through everyone? Where the only stockholders of any company were the employees themselves and everyone shared in the success and failure of the business? Could it be said that this is the only way for TRUE DEMOCRACY? Flame away Oops somebody has to pay for it. Sorry Charlie

So when we're right around .500 in July, what do we do?
Jerksticks replied to ChiSoxJon's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Seems dumb. We already overhauled the roster the last few years. We're clearly on the upward climb. What's not to like? -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) They could accept the QO? That assumes it's only about money.
-
This crap has to change. Older guys that break into the bigs late get absolutely screwed. Any guy who's not elite gets screwed. It's not always about the money. FA is supposed to be this great "you earned it" moment, and guys cant even pick where they want to go because the amount of offers shrinks down to almost nothing in some cases.
