QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) It would be easy to dismiss any activity that is broadly popular with this logic. What you also miss are all the good deeds that happen because people are bound by a set of beliefs. Food pantries, homeless shelters, clothing drives, etc. The charitable works of religious groups are a huge part of the social safety net in our country. Name a secular agency that is involved in basic human services that are larger than religious groups? I agree we could do without the violent extremist in some religious groups, making a statement that the world would be better off without religion dismisses the good deeds that are done in the name of religion. For sure man. One of the most popular things people love to say is "look at all the wars caused by religion" or "look at all those priests raping little boys" or "look at all the people suffering in the world". People just miss the point that MEN are responsible for such horrible things, not religion. MAN can be greedy and do awful things in the name of anything. But sheep will be sheep and pretend to know it all.

QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:48 PM) I for one would still love to see the Sox sign him. Give me Heyward and a power bat an I'll see you in the playoffs. For real. I'm ready to print playoff tickets for everybody

QUOTE (coco1997 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) Arizona isn't messing around. That's a hell of a rotation they're putting together. And they have a few nice batting pieces in the lineup. Looks familiar. Cmon Hahn, paper money throw it around- mass inflation in baseball will probably continue.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Don't want to make this a Cubs slurp fest, but it's quite impressive watching a Front Office with a very succinct plan and executing on it. Who lucked into a bunch of solid guys. They did committ to losing for half a decade which is tough to do since they're the cubs and they should have money to spend.

I think we all accidentally stepped into the Soxtalk time machine again

I cant wait to read "cubs DFA Baez & Schwarber"

I'm of the new opinion that adding carGo to the deal might actually make Arenado easier to trade for. Relieving COL of the $50M is worth a ton.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) Even if they have to absorb the total cost of that contract, they have to replace his bat, or they are not going to have a winning season. I sure hope that the front office is not going to make a move contingent upon being able to find a taker for LaRoche. No way that makes sense. We'll get your clean-up bat and probably keep laroche.

Eaton Heyward Abreu Arenado Melky TFT Avila Sanchez Saladino Bench-Flowers, MJ, LaSuck, Shuck Rotation- Sale, Rodon, Johnson, Danks, Lackey? I dunno, this rotation could be pretty bad without Q.
-
Heyward alone isn't the answer but it sure helps. Heyward, Eaton & Trayce out there and suddenly, somehow, we have one of the premier defensive outfields. Melky moves to DH/platoons with Trayce against tough righties. LaSuck can still get a few hundred ABs. Still need some power so maybe that's where we gut the farm/trade Q for an absolute stud IF like Arenado. Suck it up and replace Q's innings somehow I dunno- mid tier FA? Gotta spend some dough to do anything positive it seems.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) It's not like we're in a thread about a case clearly showing as obvious as could be how terrible of a deal you're getting for top level FAs any more. Haha well played. I think Heyward is a little different though, and hopefully the FO sees it that way, just because of his age. He's not over 30 so there's gotta be something to that.
-
The Sox have to open the pocket book and sign Heyward. Our pitching is cheap for the rest of the decade. Spend some dough on some premium bats. Heyward is the least risky FA signing one can get just based on his age. Gotta spend some dough and compete or Abreu is gonna opt out and walk.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) Pinch-hitting your backup catcher is generally not a good idea. LaRoche's numbers were fine up until about mid-June, and in August when Thompson came up Robin did stop playing LaRoche a lot, I didn't really have a problem with how Robin handled him this year. Conor only had 15 PA against LHP this season so let's not pretend Robin doesn't know how to platoon someone. He also stopped playing Conor once Saladino came up, and I think he utilized Soto and Shuck well for the most part. Nice post. I really think Robin upped his game a ton last year and proved he belongs as a manager, to me at least. Somebody above pinpointed theLaRoche handling perfectly. Salary. The FO demanded it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) lol Can we do a soxtalk conference call and talk about this. Poty

This is a nice trade. Somehow 5 years of Gordon Beckham Sucktrain became a potential big addition to our bullpen. I think I prefer Tommy to a kid in A-ball years away, who more than likely will never be heard of again. I don't think Hahn could have gotten a good bullpen piece for Beckham at the time of the trade so this looks like some nice work here.

Congrats Aaron! Welcome back to the family!

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 22, 2015 -> 07:18 AM) several great points made. i will counter on one, re bold. i do not necessary agree with this thinking. you are using a timeline to make that call. this definition or calling it a rebuild vs a retool is sooo subjective. that is unless it if obvious, like in one off season or during a season, changing 50% of the starting lineup, then that is a rebuild. the trading of several players for prospects is not a rebuild but a retool . but that is my opinion, maybe i am way wrong on this. Whatever they are doing the Sox are doing it right. Good point.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 09:42 PM) The Sox did blow it up. In 2013/2014 when they got rid of Rios, Santiago, Reed, Peavy, De Aza, Beckham, Dunn and let go AJ, Konerko, Viciedo. The only position player left from the 2012 team is Tyler Flowers. Stupid facts don't sharpen pitchfork blades mang.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 21, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) I also think they don't wana come out and say they're going to be aggressive and push for the playoffs again in case some team offers the a small fortune for Sale or Quintana. That wouldn't look good. Ding ding ding!

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) Bridgeport: 2.1 sq miles, population of 31,000 Sweden: 175,896 sq miles, population of 10,000,000. Did you confuse Sweden with Luxembourg? Haha no i got it right. I just heard two people the other night praising sweden again and just still can't wrap my head around it. And swedish fish are good...especially a whole bag in one bite.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
Jerksticks replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Some names are shocking but what's cool is this whole process reveals just how little we as fans know about any of these prospects. All we can do is look at milb stats which clearly should be taken with a tiny grain of salt. The tiniest grain of salt but it's hard for us because that's all we have to go on. Clearly these dudes are each working on very specific parts of their games at all times, which is the only way to make it to the show. Sure guys like Schwarber come along and dominate the minors, but most guys have to work on individual parts. So cool and humbling to not know anything, and while these lists are shocking, the White Sox and other teams spent countless man-hours figuring out who to protect. -
Wait so we should believe this interview? Haha. Isn't this just an obvious smokescreen to make other GMs feel like they'd have to overpay for a good piece of ours? You can't honestly think they are undecided after months of working on this. That makes zero sense. Or whatever is less than zero. Smart guys work for the white sox, not zoo animals.

Nobody is talking about bombing IKEA, just ISIS. IKEA has already invaded America and eliminated the American craftsman- funny how it's the one corporation the hipster turns a blind-eye to. Probably because the hipster would only have enough money to furnish his house with pallets then...wait pallets are cool now! Why don't they hate IKEA yet?
