  1. I think 2k5 is on the right track. I think the Sox know he doesn't have what it takes "between the ears" as Hawk says. Sox don't trust him and don't want to expose him. He's trade material this offseason is my bet.
  2. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Saw this in another location, I can't take credit for it but I thought it was interesting and touches upon your point: http://www.statcorner.com/CatcherReport.php "Tyler Flowers turns 1.89 balls per game into strikes, good for the fourth-best average in the league. At first glance, that looks wonderful. However, looking further down the list, guess who is #19 at 1.09 extra strikes per game? That's right, Geovany Soto. In other words, the White Sox are happily trading 84 points of OBP and 128 points of SLG, not to mention a higher passed-ball frequency (10 in 673.1 innings for Flowers vs. 4 in 372.2 innings for Soto) and a worse caught-stealing percentage (23% for Flowers vs. 27% for Soto), for eight-tenths of an extra strike per game." Mark That makes it sound horrible. I suppose there are intangible factors at play as well. Maybe the dude just calls better games or creates a comfort level that we can't quantify.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) While I agree with you, the Devil's Advocate reply is....are you ready to give Samardzija a ~$7 million raise from this year? I see your point but I think that seven million is the cheapest way to get a solid 200 innings without further commitment. What are the chances Shark accepts that QO though. He's running out of years to land a megadeal.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) If you want to lose brain cells, read the replies to this comment. https://www.facebook.com/SportsCenter/photo...2%3A%22R9%22%7D Apparently, Sale is barely a top-20 pitcher in baseball. "He's better than top 20 and probably more top 10 but a few I'd prefer over him? Kershaw, Grienke, Bumgarner, Price, Archer, Keuchel, Cueto, Scherzer, Kluber, Arrieta, Gray" I think most teams would rather face half of those guys than Sale.
  5. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) So does this mean we're back in the Wild Card hunt? Only if the Sox even care about that stupid birdcage-looking trophy too.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) I've only been on Soxtalk since '05 but I'm pretty sure every year there has been at least one thread with the overarching theme, Hawk must go, and the love/hate him posts ensue. Interesting that he's so polarizing...and as a result, known to other fan bases. For instance, good luck naming some of the other PBP guys in markets you're unfamiliar with. They're just some generic vanilla-flavored spread on top of white bread. And that's good for some people, they like that. For me, sometimes I love Hawk and sometimes (like when he says s*** like that about the Royals vs. Sox) I can't stand him. And so it goes. Exactly. It's our job to love the man. He's a huge part of growing up a Sox fan for a huge majority of us. He doesn't hurt anything so what's the big deal?
  7. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:50 AM) The people who hate on hawk have never listened to other teams broadcast. This 100%. I've had mlb.tv for 5 years and heard every broadcast team out there. I can see how some of you don't want the announcing team to talk game situations, mindset etc. Hawk is the only one to do it.
  8. Man I hate Robin-bashing. Just as much as you dislike Robin harkness.
  9. I think he's definitely improved his game this year. Best Sox trade in a long time IMO.
  10. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 05:26 PM) This nonsense is silly. All that matters is the White Sox and Bulls are locked out by their own stupidity. The White Sox management lacks the guts to do what is necessary. Crazy talk. The White Sox ARE currently doing what you want them to be doing. They just did it so damn fast and well that you didn't even notice and took a shot at competing with the new core because it's so damn good.
  11. Greg you can't trade the only young guy who can get on base. U crazy, the dart man....you got a f***in dart in your neck.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) It is the smart thing to do. He is probably the best defensive OF on the team and all of our OFs are better then LaRoche so just sit him #justsithim
  13. Now now the box score doesn't tell you crap about those laser beams Flowers hit at Featherstix. When was the last time Flowers hit two missile line drives in the same game? When's the last time he made contact in consecutive weeks?? He's red hot gents.
  14. Dare I say Flowers heating up? Looking pretty short & quick lately
  15. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 11, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Especially if they spent all of their time in the NL. They don't do well in this area. Laroche was supposed to punish baseballs so the magnifying glass wouldn't need to be focused on the flaws of our young guys. It's a shame Laroche has only punished about 6 baseballs all year- he's the biggest reason we suck extra suckily IMO.
  16. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) Given the way people rarely leave the organization let along get outright fired job security should be the thing they should be least concerned over. Marl Marl? Wait so you type your name everytime? It's not a signature? Haha mercy man, mercy. ?
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) Trout hits homer 33 and 131 of his career on his 24th birthday. Not a bad player. Kid's got a future in this game... This kid has superstar written all over him.
  18. I think for some guys, hitting in the minors is harder for them. Saladino might be one of those guys.
  19. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) That was not a true rebuild the only reason Hernandez and Alvarez were traded was because they were going to become free agents, were represented by Scott Boras and the Sox knew they'd never be able to resign them. In fact a few days before the "White Flag Trade" Scheuler attempted to sign those guys to a new deal and was rebuffed. That's when JR said 'go ahead'. And as it turned out of the six minor league players only two Foulke and Howry ever made any type of impact at the major league level. Mark Man, why do you do it? I think we all deserve the explanation. All love brother I assure you, but we deserve to know. Nobody else does it. Why do you have to?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) Does nightmare for the fans count? I just read here where all of the Cubs' young players are possibilities to bust....is their being 11 games over .500 at this point solely due to luck, Maddon, Rizzo, Arrieta and Schwarber? It's called Wrigley Field and NL Central baseball. Somehow guys like Dempster, Lilly, Arrieta & Hammel become unhittable strikeout pitchers even though they were mediocre at best prior to joining the cubs. You can't name a #3 starter in the NL Central, let alone most of the 2s. It's garbage baseball plain and simple.
  21. We have some of the absolute best players in baseball. I think next year will surprise many of the doubters. The farm is fully fertilized and growing, just wait.
  22. I'm just thankful that Bryant, Soler, Russel & Castro might all be huge busts.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:39 PM) Eleventy billion 2nd the motion.
