QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) That they should do it because it is a good thing to do, and not a paycheck. If they sign up to do it for a paycheck that's the whole problem man. The only qualification then for becoming a cop is to give up on your hopes and dreams to take the free ride. That's my point. So therefore they shouldn't act like pricks since they are living on our dime, admitting they don't want to participate in the economy. They should act like butlers instead of pricks. You can't have it both ways.

Wow Hawk n Stone laid it on thick just now bashing Adam Dunn. Calling his approach selfish, bad for chemistry etc. They never mentioned his name but man was that obvious.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 11:00 PM) Really? For some cops, yeah. But you think most cops working ANY inner city beat have a 'free ride'? YOU get shot at daily just because you are trying to enforce the laws that others made. A nice car to ride around is isn't enough. The $70k, 80k and pension isn't enough. I'll be one of the first to complain that the police are over militarized, but a free ride? Perhaps you should arrange a ride along some time with an inner city cop. I agree and see your point that inner-city policing is a super dangerous job. I think the discussion here, or at least what I was referring to though, is about suburban and village police where daily danger is hardly an issue. Those are the PDs that suck their communities dry with all their amenities and unnecessary upgrades. But even with your example, it is still a free ride. Unless you think most Chicago cops become cops becuase of some inner calling to serve and protect. I call bulls***. I'd say the vast majority, maybe even 90 some percent (no way to quantify I realize) just wanted a guaranteed paycheck and the right to carry a gun and boss people around. I don't think the danger aspect discounts the free ride aspect, it's just the price you pay for your free ride. You roll the dice. Poverty creates the necessity for police, but those that police should do it because of an inner-calling to serve the people. If that were the case we wouldn't all dislike them as much as we do. I mean don't you always feel like you're treated as guilty until proven innocent most of the time, just cuz he/she can?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) It'd be their problem once the Chief is on their ass. The pressure would start at the top with budgets from the city/county and it'd trickle down soon enough. At some point, if people's jobs are on the line, changes down stream will happen. That's a good start. I also think that no way should PDs have nice cars. They should have all the leftover worn-out crap with a mechanic maintaining the fleet. Chargers? Tricked-out Tahoes? GMAB. They should have to beg the community for resources and we should all vote. I also think it would be a nice touch if at the end of every interaction with a cop the cop would have to say "thank you for paying my salary. I gave up on all my hopes and dreams and so I'm just thankful every minute to have a job supporting the community and to not have to fight for a piece of the pie in the economy like the rest of you. If there's anything you need, like your grass mowed or your trash cans rinsed out here's my business card." I know that was over the top but the biggest problem to me is the entitled "lords of the community" tough-guy attitude that surrounds cops like a stench. Easy boys, we can sign the papers any day we like to head to the academy but we all don't want a free ride. Be appreciative to your community instead of acting like you're in charge of the s*** we pay for.

How do the White Sox stack up - payroll vs MLB
Jerksticks replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) then how bout attributing is to the luck of the 3 major players calling the shot at the sox FO. JR, KW, and Hahn, each adding their little in the pot. like getting the right spices for a great dish. each being important as the other. Yea man that's how i look at it. I think the monster is at its best now. I always got the impression that KW rubbed some other GMs the wrong way. I'm glad Rick is in the trenches now- baseball seems to really like him. But who really knows. -
How do the White Sox stack up - payroll vs MLB

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) Perception is different from reality. KW trades prospects that is perceived as ruining the system even though the prospects traded never turn into anything. Comimg off a 73 win season, Hahn trades 4 prospects for a potential 1 year rental. That is praised, but it is a total KW-like move. I am not trying to praise KW, he had his flaws, and as I stated I would love to see Hahn run his own show. But as was stated in previous posts, the titles and responsibilities have changed a bit, but the same people are making decisions. Nice post. Hahn unloads 4 guys for a 1 year rental and somehow that is an about-face for White Sox GMing. Yea thankfully KW isn't still the GM ?. Chris Sale, Quintana & Abreu are basically the reasons we did what we did this offseason. If these are such different GM styles, then who gets credit for those moves? Can't slam the FO for Gio & Swisher and then attribute the CFS, JFQ & JMFA moves to good luck. -

For pete's sake what is wrong with some of you and your memory? It's like you all forget the fact that we HAD a core from 2000-2013. We had really good players! It just didn't work out! "KW consistently sold the farm blah blah". Well no s***! We had our superstars and we had a shot to win the division every year! We looked damn good on paper every year! Why not just admit that TCQ and JFP's freak injuries spoiled everything? Why not just admit that Adam Dunn crumbling out of nowhere spoiled years. It looked good on paper. We had superstars at key positions. Then they got old, the window closed so here we are. The same 3 guys are running the same show. And damn did they do a nice job building a fresh core over the last years, just like they did a damn good job supplementing the team to keep the competitive window open throughout PK's entire career. Who drafted Chris Sale? Who put together the team that won 20 out of 25 in 2010 but fell short? Blaming KW like that was a different regime is absolutely ludicrous. We swung and missed all but one year but we swung damn hard. I think you could argue the drafting sucked in the 2000s but we've shored that up a bit. Overall though, not bad fellas. Keep up the good work. This year looks to be exciting just like every year since 2000. -
QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) There are so many ways this team is better. Here are 15 random points. 1. Samardzija is taking the spot of Scott Carroll and Rienzo and some other dogs we trotted out. 2. Sale is unlikely to get used for 127 pitches in a game and land on the DL. 3. Q in the 3 hole will face weaker competition, turning many of his no decisions into wins. 4. We actually have a closer. And a lefty 8th inning guy. 5. The revamped bullpen, while likely to be a work-in-progress early on, could make a 10-game difference on it's own. 6. The top 4 hitters all get on base at a .350 clip or above. 7. LaRoche has about the same power as Dunn, but with a much better average, and far fewer K's. 8. Abreu is in the conversation for being the best hitter in baseball. 9. Avisail Garcia is going to be a MONSTER, and will really help the offense click. 10. We have a quality backup catcher who might be better than the starter. 11. The infield D could be a little shaky outside of SS, but we have defensive subs for all those spots. 12. Micah Johnson has to be a ton better than what we got out of 2B last year, and if he isn't, we have plenty of options. 13. No more Dayan Viciedo defensive lapses in the outfield. 14. We have Carlos Rodon available as soon as mid-April if we need him. 15. We have other minor league guys who might help us late. I'm not sure it will all come together right out of the gate, but I think this team will click at some point and be very solid. I like all your points. I think a nice summary of your post is that we only improved positions. We aren't worse anywhere except possibly catcher (hard to bet on Flowers repeating those high BABIP streaks that made his stats not look like absolute toilet. Toilet yes, but not texaco latrines on the outskirts of El Paso like we might see this year).

I agree you can't lump Danks in with the "it's just ST" group of guys without at least a little hesitation. Perhaps he's throwing crapballs all spring so no team can gauge him and hopefully he will be under-scouted for the first few games. I dunno, crossing my fingers he becomes Mr. Slowball.

Is there any difference between a startup company and a premature ejaculation? It looks to me like a bunch of 30 year olds without a plan getting their parents to buy 10 Macs so these entrepreneurs can Skype each other from their apartments; I've witnessed it a few times. It's a way to say you're in business while you really aren't, and not having to explain your business model because it's such a big secret. Just a lot of pompous attitude going around here in Austin since 100k jobless college grads all have an idea for the next billion dollar app; it's the trendy hipster fad right now, and it's all the rage and it's ruining it for those actual startups out there really busting their ass. Is there a lot of this where you live? Sorry for my pompousness toward their pompousness but get out there and get it going people. Apologies if you have a cool startup, but you know what I mean.

Ventura names Beckham Opening Day 2B

Hook, line n stinker Chili. Perfect choice. My blood was boiling for 10 seconds. -
Maybe quint over the loud speaker after the national anthem: Cage goes in the water, you go in the water, shark's in the water, our shark! If it becomes tradition for the whole stadium to start singing farewell and adieu I might explode

If he sucks for some reason then the awkwardness of this may even trump The Outfield song. If he's awesome then I hope we hold nothing back and play the Jaws music while the other team takes BP and before their half of the inning.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Cubs fans should burn down Wrigley Field if Bryant doesn't start in Iowa. Can somebody please just burn it down

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) Eh, I don't know. I think there is no doubt he'll hit a ton of bombs. But I could see him being more Mark Trumbo and less....Jose Abreu. Ok, maybe better than Trumbo's average, but I think he probably hits somewhere in the .260s, maybe .270s with 35 HR and 150+ Ks. Trumbo circa 2012 I guess. I don't see him being a 5+ WAR guy, at least not in his rookie year. We shall see I guess, but obviously he's still a huge threat to be the best rookie in baseball this year. For sure. I wish this wasn't true so the cubs' rebuild would still be 3-4 yrs out.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) This makes sense if they do expect Sale to pitch the 12th. You go 1-4 starters, a spot start from a long reliever (Penny?), and then Sale slides in at the front. Yea I would think it has entirely to do with matchups and schedule like you're saying.

"Who is Jose Abreu" Article from Chicago Magazine
Jerksticks replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My old man would Bill Melton names all the time and the last one he Meltoned before he passed was pronouncing Abreu "Abrew". So thanks mang, funny stuff. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 21, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) #WhiteSox lineup vs. #Royals: Eaton 8, Shuck 7, Abreu DH, LaRoche 3, Soto 2, Gillaspie 5, Beckham 6, Beltre 9, Bonifacio 4. Penny 1. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/579305525499707392 Is our Sunday lineup going to really suck this year?

This is awesome. Does anybody know about the fabled Reinsdorf "Briefcase Policy" where if you sign a team-friendly deal and massively outperform it JR rewards you with a briefcase of millions as a tip at the end of year?
-
I thought Beckham was a stud at 3B when he first came up. New position but his athleticism really shined on choppers where he had to run toward the plate. I feel like the Sox neutered him somehow by sticking him at 2B where the weakest guy plays. I say neutered for lack of a better term coming to mind but it kinda fits. He won 3B that year.
-
Rodon can force his way up any time he likes IMO. If the Sox are looking good then I'd love to have him in the bullpen mopping up the days Danks is throwing meatballs or any starter is struggling. Yank them early and maybe Carlos can grab 5 innings. If he destroys AAA then I think Coop can find some use.

It's crazy talk is what it is. The Sox haven't even evaluated him for a year yet.
