  1. Say Micah outplays everyone by a mile and wins the job. Isn't it almost guaranteed he bats 9th to have the coveted 9-1 combo? Rookie 2 hole? Maybe last year.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) my question, after his recovery, how will this affect his pitching. meaning, his full pitching motion. will his follow thru, his mechanics be affected in a sense of trying to rush into training and getting ready for the start of the season. I think we're all just hoping for the best man.
  3. Yea I agree too. How does Sanchez rank defensively vs Beckham? And offensively, can he handle a good fastball better than Beckham? I feel like GB is overmatched. I can't understand 2009, it looked so easy for him then.
  4. Just popped my first baseball boner; thanks boys keep posting so it stays.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) If my manager continually gave canned bulls*** answers like that, I'd lose a hell of a lot of respect very quickly. No offense man but that's way off. In my opinion, your job as a public personality is to give canned responses and keep the real news in house under wraps. Be humble; avoid putting pressure on your men, that's what a real manager does; it's what Robin has done exceptionally well so far during his tenure. He doesn't give the whiny bloodthirsty reporters (who can't wait to spin your quote into a story and crucify you) a single quote to spin. That's real leadership, to bite your tongue for the greater good, sparing yourself and the business you represent from the lynch mobs of reporters ready to swarm at the drop of one slip. Anthony Rizzo spouting off a few weeks ago about winning was not leadership even though he thought so. Media can't wait for somebody to write a check with their mouth, wouldn't you agree?
  6. How often did Ozzie ride the hot bench hands in '05? I'm curious to know how many times guys like Timo & Ozuna had consecutive starts of 3+ games over the regs.
  7. It's hard to have an opinion on this at all. Just look at Joel Q racking up easy Ws
  8. How many injuries would have to take place for delmonico to get called up this year?
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) Hawk's year as the GM has been written and talked about as something that basically set the team back for 5 years. That team was going to be bad regardless of who the GM was. All you really have to do is check the roster. There were some pieces acquired that helped in the future. I laugh at all of the people now who made it seem like Hawk committed some sort of felony when he got rid of LaRussa. LaRussa got booed every time he went to the mound. Many of the same people who would call into radio shows to say LaRussa sucked and needed to go are fans that now use firing LaRussa as proof Hawk is an idiot. Hell Dick, now nobody is going to post in this thread. You called them all out for being bad fans, which they are.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) How do you get a nickname like "JoeCoolMan?" That's got to be self-proclaimed... Well what does YOUR birth certificate say rabbit?
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Any time the greg talks in the third person is a good day for Soxtalk. Fixed
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) I actually interviewed Mike Gellinger 1.5 years ago (he was managing Bristol at the time) who was the White Sox director of computer scouting from 1999 on. He talked a bit about how the Sox had set up one of the earliest versions of a computerized system allowing them to determine player value & piece together a sabermetric roster, he said it was the White Sox and the Indians that were particularly out in front on that in the early 2000s. That's interesting Balta. I think most people feel that Robin is antisabe due to his use of the bullpen. Watching the 45min Soxfest video of RH, RV & SS really shed some light on it for me. Nate & Lidstrom went down last year, we didn't really have a lefty option at all & our rotation wasn't helping matters. So we used a lot of young guys. An overlooked part of managing a bullpen of young guys is protecting their health for future years. So it wasn't as simple as "Why isn't Robin pitching so and so". He had young guys getting a taste & short SP outings. I think many will be pleased with the matchups we use this year.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 01:22 AM) If that's true, shouldn't there be 3:20-3:30 minute mile runners by now? There are physical limitations to what the human shoulder/labrum and elbow can withstand. There always will be, until they invent Robot Baseball. Everyone is way bigger now across the board, in all sports.
  14. I'm gonna miss Hawk saying HoTfIRe but all I can do is move on.
  15. Would there be interest if we made a spreadsheet with everyone's picks for like 5-10 Abreu categories, and then at the end of the year you get a rank for each category. For example, whoever is closest to guessing his HRs gets a 1 for HR category. Say the next closest is a tie they both get a 2 and the next poster would get a 4. Like golf, lowest score total gets the trophy. I think it would be fun only because his numbers could be anywhere from good to ridiculous. And we could post leaderboards every month or something. I think some good formulas in excel could probably spit out leaderboards simply by inputting Abreu's current stats.
  16. I don't want to say "Cheers!" or anything distasteful like that.
  17. Man do I miss those early-mid 2000s espn boards. That was awesome baseball talkins.
  18. QUOTE (RaySox @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 04:59 PM) If he can come at a decent price, i say go for him. We're trying to win this year right? Imagine a rotation of Sale, Samardzija, Quintana, Shields and hopefully eventually Rodon... holy cow. heck, with a rotation like that 1-4 i wouldn't even complain about a John Danks as the 5th starter. There would be a lot less pressure on Rodon and the organization to rush him into the rotation. 2/40M sounds pretty juicy actually. Even less maybe?
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) In hindsight, the Swisher crap looks real bad. In real time, not that bad. He was a switch hitter signed to a team friendly contract, who took his walks, and got on base, hit with power and was coming into his prime years. Gio was a high price, but he wasn't loved here at Soxtalk. People want to be like the Cardinals. They traded Shelby Miller for a one year rental who hits lefties worse than Adam LaRoche, and people here seem to freak out about how LaRoche can't hit lefties. Swisher obviously didn't work out. He refused to work with the coaches, performed poorly, and his act got old fast. They were getting rid of him no matter what. They got garbage in return without a doubt, but that was the going rate. With the Edwin Jackson, I still don't understand how that is a franchise killer. Hudson was impressive for a while. Jackson was really good with the White Sox. Hudson now has had 2 TJ surgeries, and the Sox still have Daniel Webb to show from the EJax trade. At this point, I would rather have Webb than Hudson. Carlos Quentin wasn't netting the Sox anything. He spends most of the baseball season on the DL. Thank you dick. I feel like this will help some of the KW bashers realize the same regime is in charge and has the same goal & agenda it always has: win.
  20. The absolute best lessons in life and work are learned through complete failure. So I for one am glad the CH got exposed. Clearly he needed to learn that his swing/eye won't play up levels. Back to the drawing board kid. I'm not against what happened.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) If any of you see that I have viewed your profile its because I am on my iphone on soxtalk and my fingers are just clicking away at everything that I don't want to touch. or I am stalking you. Haha totally! That definitely happens. And I'm not chilling in the threads all day, I just leave windows open I promise; somebody believe me!
  22. I think this is all proof that SP can't really be helped through FA any more this offseason. I think we'll see a mid-season move like some have alluded to. I think the Sox brass sees April-July as an evaluation period because we don't know if this new roster will gel into a contender yet. Plenty of time. The bonus of waiting is that some of our A ball guys might make some pushes to give us more trade ammo.
