I love your fact of the matter. 2 big spots to fill and I think we'll be surprised with how well try are filled out.

Oh you can just feel the trade winds brewing boys & Lillian.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) Yes, you would certainly think that would be the case. However, apparently our organization has not shared our embracement of this principle. We haven't had much left handed, potent hitting, in quite a while. I often think that this team was constructed upside down, with almost all Left handed pitchers, and almost all right handed hitters. It has always seemed very perplexing to me. I think that's because it's just never available. Every team wants it and nobody can get it. You're talking about the best hitters in the game.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) No, you misunderstood me. Tongue-in-cheek, refers to my comment; "we have most of the good lefties". It's obviously not true that we actually have most of them. It just seems that way. That's what I meant by "tongue-in-cheek". So, now that we have clarified our intentions with these comments, what would be the best way to statistically examine my hypothesis? The hypothesis is; There are significantly more right handed pitchers, and they represent the vast majority of the pitches thrown in games. Therefore, employing hitters who are productive vs right handed pitchers, provides a generally more effective offense. The practical application of this principle is that, although a hitters composite stats may not be that impressive, if he is very good vs. RH pitching, he is going to be good in many more at bats, because he naturally doesn't face LH pitchers nearly as often. Of course, the ideal hitter is one who is good vs. all pitching. However, short of obtaining that ideal, I would prefer hitters who are good vs. RH pitching, over those who are relatively better vs. LH pitching. I'd appreciate all constructive comments, as this is a simple, but very important concept. A team is going to lose a lot of games, no matter how good they are. The objective is to be as effective as possible, for as much of the time as possible. Since RH pitching is by far the most common, it only makes sense that it is advantageous to have a lineup that is effective vs. that RHP. This is what has bothered me so much about the Sox having been so conspicuously void of any left handed offensive force in their lineup. Oh sure, we have Eaton and Gillaspie, but I'm talking about middle of the order hitters. Adam Dunn was a failure, and he was the only viable LH option, for the entire time he was in Chicago. Perhaps now some of you can understand why I want a player like Ethier to join LaRoche, in the heart of the order. Even if the team doesn't do that well vs. LHP, it's worth it to have a better chance to win in those majority of at bats and games, when facing RHP. I think that's how everyone already feels and has always felt though. People look at Eithier and have their worries because of many flags in many areas of his game. I think baseball teams in general have operated under the principle of "get guys who can mash RHP" forever. Maybe I don't understand your hypothesis.

Isn't adding a wheeler a smidge too much? Have to probly give them Sanchez or Beck so count me the f*** out.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) If someone reads the site and presents what the site says as their own ideas/scoops, it's somewhere between dishonest and plagiarism, with a side order of fraud. That's why it's a biggie. Have you noticed MLBTR often cites the person who first reported/tweeted a deal/trade? The concept of getting some kind of credit for releasing news before a club announces something is insane to me. Or predicting news and wanting people to bask in the glow of greatness, like people should hold the person in some esteem for this magnificent prognostication. Nobody gives a hoot. It's just sad that grown men require such attention to feel like men. It's just a big version of little kids saying "See, I told ya so!" Rant over. Get back to work reporting news when it happens.

Has it been reported that he isn't yet

Sorry already for this.

Chapman, Bruce and RHSP for Q, Montas + We're close to contender talk there and we are relieving the Reds of quite a bit of salary.
-
Who on the Sox is going to be expensive the next 3 years? Any core guys? Not really. I say sign as many expensive 3-4 year deals to compete while we wait for the Anderson/Montas/Danish/Hawkins class of reinforcements. Then these expensive old guys will be gone and we can afford to start paying Eaton, Avi, jose, Q and sale while the new wave is cheap. We're set up nicely. Spend the cash

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 06:45 PM) I agree, just throwing it out there. I would love Zimmermann (with an extension) and Bruce in a Sox uniform. Would you trade q for Bryce Harper?
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) I could see a situation where it could be Bruce and Latos for Q and prospects of the Sox can get Latos extended. If it ended up being more along the lines of Q being sent straight up for Bruce, I'd have a hard time swallowing that one. Would need some specs coming back. I don't know if this kind of move helps us enough. Latos and Q put up similar numbers when healthy but Latos had a tough time in that department last year from what I've read. Q has no injury concerns, less MLB arm-mileage, is lefty and has a way better contract situation. Is that swap worth the acquisition of Bruce? I dunno it seems like a blow to the young controlled core a bit, plus we still have rotation issues and we don't have Q to trade anymore.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) What did it smell like? I can't imagine anybody would like that smell, let alone LOVE it. Haha makes me now wonder all the funny things that thing could possibly smell like day to day.

QUOTE (y2chae @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) The Sox have hovered around the $100 million payroll mark ever since the 2006 season. With the new TV money coming in, it wouldn't be a surprise to continue having a $100 million payroll. The Sox are committed to $48 million, with arbitration, tenders and pre arbitration costs it will probably be around $58 million. If the Sox don't reach that mark it won't be because of ownership spending limitations, I have no doubt that Hahn has the green light to spend $60 million if he feels he can get the right deals. This sounds good to me. Would there be additional money available as well from 2014's final line? If we had a down payroll this year then do we have some bonus beans lying around, assuming a downtick in attendance didn't eat it all up?

I love how it smelled at the poker table.

White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million

Would it be reasonable to say a relief pitcher will pitch 60-70 innings of a possible 1,450 total team-pitched innings? That makes 10M a year seem crazy for MR. 4% of total innings for 10% of payroll? -
Well this stinks.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) I'm not arguing that this may be the best time to trade Alexei, if the package is right I'm definitely moving him. But Greene is just not that package in my opinion. I don't doubt that Alexei is a top 5 SS in the game and that should come at pretty decent price. Make it Greene, Jose A Ramirez, and an A ball OF (a talented long shot) and we can talk. Alexei is a bonafide vacuum at SS and starts 160 games. That's worth legit ML talent x2 or something isn't it?
-
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) How about Greene and Betances for Ramirez? Any deal that gets you betances is legit! Sign Robertson too. Bullpen done mostly.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 05:37 PM) .301/.388/.389 W/RISP last year. Slugging% is low but he doesn't look like a rally killer either His walk rate is so solid and his defense is premium. Those facts alone make him my number #1 wish.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 10:06 AM) Random question: How is Ravelo's first name pronounced? Is it Rangel like Angel or Ranger? Or pronounced like "Ron-Hell"? Dude I'm just gonna wait for whatever Bill Melton says

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Why on Earth does this team need a rental? They aren't a playoff contender next season. Contenders trade for rentals, not rebuilding organizations. Alright man I have to disagree. It's very possible that we contend. We have superstars, great young players and good prospects. Don't write it off yet for The Hahn is hunting. -
That was 2006 man.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

You'd think that'd be newsworthy. Difficulties of living in the Babe's shadow I guess.
