  1. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) Heyward has a lot more value than Evan Gattis. I can see that package including Micah, Hawkins, and possibly Danish or Montas. Too rich for my blood. Jason Heyward isn't making this team a championship contender. Yes but he'd be a biiiig piece of the pie. Gattis not so much.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) FWIW, Danish was reportedly often reported as hitting 95 pre-draft. I know Perfect Game got him at 94 multiple times. So, he might hit 95 again. Togh to say the cause of the velo decrease - laying off, mechanics, skills decrease, making the sinker more sinkery, etc Haha it's gotta be making the sinker more sinkery Maybe Danish has extra gears since he always has room to reach back farther.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) And one of the most important aspects, pitch calling, is unmeasurable. From what I've read, Flowers is highly favored in that regard. Flo is fine to have on a competing team. Viciedo? No.
  4. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Again, what are you basing this on? Micah has plenty of value. The braves neither have a 2B or a leadoff hitter. They would love to get a guy like Micah. And then you add in a young mlb ready arm with a legitimate fastball in Bassit and the Braves would have to have real interest. If you think there is going to be a bunch of teams willing to give up 2 mlb ready prospects for Gattis you are seriously overestimating his value. Just use those guys for Heyward wtf
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) Hahn has stated that the Sox are targeting a left handed, middle of the order bat. If they do not sign V. Martinez, or any other free agent this off season, whom would they target for 2016? The only one who might be available is Chris Davis. There certainly is no one within the organization, who might fill that void. Is there someone I'm missing? Sit back, relax...White Sox offseason coming your way! There will be a trade for such a guy.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) The last time Crawford made it through a season healthy was 2010. Pass. The idea of Crawford is better than the actual Crawford.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) I dont see any way the Nationals trade him right now(unless he forces it). He is still on his rookie contract, they are paying him peanuts My crazy thought (which admittedly came from a discussion with a friend) is Tulo at third base. I love it. Makes me want to see: Eaton Tulo Abreu Harper Heyward Garcia Flowers/Martin Alexei Semien
  8. I like your idea of grabbing up a big contract for minimal prospects but that depends on the position. Guys with big contracts are probably older guys that don't fit into our younger core MO of late. I'd be more willing to do that in the infield and use our bullets to get fresh legs for the open OF spot. Quintana for Bryce Harper is my latest crazy thought.
  9. It all just makes me sick to my stomach.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 02:19 AM) Look, Paulie is gone; Mark is a White Sox true and true. Time to bring him back ... now! In 2-3 years he'll be wearing another World Series ring. With his example, our staff will be rockin. Haha f*** it man I'm in. But Danks has to go then. Who's gonna have the better year next year, Danks or Buehrle?
  11. Jason Heyward doesn't fit the cost-controlled, core young guy theme so maybe he isn't a realistic target. We have to pay somebody at some point, so if we can lock him up that would be great and he would be a nice core piece. Maybe the Rockies' outfield is where we should be picking, as somebody mentioned. We gotta pick from somewhere.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) It was another comment. When Omar Vizquel was a free agent, he said it was a done deal he would be a White Sox and staked his reputation to the claim. Omar signed with SF a day or so later. Lol so funny to me. How pompous. To think any person on earth gives a s*** about the words or reputation of a sports writer, one of the all-time major clown jobs of modern society. Oh you predicted some sports event? Cool man, here's a taco.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) Same here. I've been wondered since the season ended. I hope it's a player back and not just cash. Careful what you wish for. Beckham sucked so I bet your player would suck, and suck heavily. Might be better off with the cayysh.
  14. November 10- Heyward to the White Sox for Tank & 2 prospects
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) In 1184 PAs, DeWayne Wise grounded into 13 double plays. In 622 PAs, Jose Abreu grounded into 14 double plays. Beast
  16. Lightly used is really funny to me headz. I know all it takes is 1 GM to want Viciedo and apparently 20 HRs has some value, but does anybody want him patrolling LF for the Sox in 2015? And if you say YES, I'm going to first respond with "c'mon man", and then respectfully address your opinion.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) But you can do the same thing, but better, with wOBA or wRC+. The thing I hate so much about OPS is that it's simply obsolete. It actually has NO use anymore. Like even RBI is a better stat because it still answers a simple question better than any other stat. There's no "sabermetric equivalent" of RBI. The SABR problem with RBI wasn't that it was inaccurate (it's extremely accurate, in fact), but rather that it was being used as a proxy to answer the wrong questions (i.e. who is the best hitter?). Analogy: wRC+ is an ATM card, OPS is a checkbook, RBI is coins. The checkbook is completely obsolete compared to the ATM card; the checkbook is a hindrance. But while the ATM is much more useful than coins, there are still a handful of situations where you need coins instead. I like your point but I disagree with the analogy. The checkbook is the single most important thing to American business
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 25, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) I've been thinking of ways to improve the Sox through free agency. I think I really can fix our starting rotation on the cheap. Here's my plan. OK. Jake Peavy is 33 years old. He is a free agent cause the player option doesn't kick in since he only pitched 200 innings. The Sox need a righty starter. Why not Jake? Better yet, sign Peavy and Masterson and trade Danks or turn him into a reliever. You sign Peavy 2 years 14 million and Masterson 2 years 14 million. That's a paltry 7 million a year apiece added to the payroll for 2 years. We'd have Sale, Peavy, Q, Masterson, Rodon. That's not a bad rotation. If Danks can adjust, he'd be a damn fine addition to the bullpen. If you can trade him for a fourth outfielder, fine. Now, go ahead and sign Billy Butler for 2 years 18 million. Yes it's risky to give him 9 million a year but you are gambling he can elevate the ball in the Cell. So that's nine million a year. Finally you sign Aoki for one year, 7 million to be our fourth outfielder. So we have that excellent starting rotation I mentioned, and we have Danks in the bullpen. We've only added 23 million to the payroll in my scheme which means we can gamble and pick a closer out of the free agent crop and pay him 9 million a year. So I've added 32 million dollars a year. Isn't that a doable number? I thought I read Sox have a payroll of about 60 million right now; I've added 32 million and it's still under 100 million. Our lineup 1B-Babe Ruth. 2B-Semien. SS-Lexi. 3B-Davidson/Gillaspie. LF-Viciedo. CF-Eaton. RF-A. Garcia. DH-Butler. Fourth outfielder-Aoki. C-Tyler Flowers (still not optimal). If Davidson emerges, this is a heckuva lineup. Davidson is KEY! If Viciedo gets better, that would also help my lineup. What do you say??? My plan is doable. I still don't think you've done enough to make the lineup dangerous. The babe needs backup. And tank in LF? Get the ef outa here with that crazy talk.
  19. I'm all for trading any of our prospects for a great young corner OF. The team is ready to win. We have Babe Ruth for ef sakes.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2014 -> 12:34 PM) Callis takes a look at the Sox AFL crew. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/993...ed-tim-anderson LOL at that pitch Montas threw at 2:07 to that poor guy. Looked like 140 mph.
  21. I think the article hit on why so many sox fans were upset with his play: you just never got the feeling he was doing everything he could in an AB to help the team. His swing looked the same no matter the count and no matter the situation, HR or bust. Dude, just put the f***ing ball in play and put the pressure on the defense, anything can happen. It's not his fault though or any of these 3 outcome guys' faults. It's a product of growing up in the steroid era or playing right after it...where everybody was jacking taters, where if you didn't have power you had a much harder time sticking. Matt Davidson is a perfect example of a kid growing up watching jacks and not learning how to be a dangerous hitter. These guys think jacks make you dangerous. This might take decades to correct since the mangers and coaches are all going to be guys from the juiced era. Guys that can hit with 2 strikes are going to be kings and I hope we stock up on these rarities. Eaton rules.
  22. ^^haha yea it sure seems like we already have this guy.
  23. The 4 OF where one plays DH idea is fine but I think that just means Avi Garcia is our DH.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Yeah, our defense is GARBAGE in the corners. Abreu, Gillaspie, Garcia, Viciedo. Yikes. Id say way above average up the middle though. It's really just Avi at this point.
