  1. I think you'll see us trade for a very good young player this addressing both D & B
  2. For me the bottom line is his arm was dead this year. Whether he lost it forever remains to be seen. Seems useless without velocity which is the sad truth for EJ. Hope you find it buddy.
  3. I'm not sure whether I love this era of baseball more than the steroid era. Both are wonderful. Is it better to watch natural competition or maxed-out human potential. Both are cool to me.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 14, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) ok, i will play. for me, this was and still is a horrible trade. not for keeping reed, but the rtn of davidson. even if davidson rebounds, the sox overpaid. For every sox fan this is a horrible trade at the moment because our return has yet to produce. If Davidson becomes a stud I don't see how you'll be able to say we overpaid. As for now, yes, Sox lost. It ain't over yet my man.
  5. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) The laziness of the Cleuluis Rondon section is just awful. "The White Sox also acquired glove-first infielder Cleuluis Rondon from Boston in the trade. Rondon entered the season as the No. 26 prospect in the system and is good enough defensively to be a shortstop — if his bat ever catches up." He is good enough defensively to be a shortstop. Really? That's all the writer could come up with? Do some research on the other prospects of the trade. Cleuluis is another prospect with great potential. His bat was good enough while in A+. That defense at shortstop is so valuable. He is known for his plus-plus defense at shortstop. Embarrassing on Dan Hayes part. Stating " He is good enough defensively to be a shortstop" is selling him very short. In all fairness Cleuluis isn't popping guns at 102 with control. Yay Defense Only A-Ball isn't really a good story...yet. Montas is 6 million dollar Tyler Kolek except he throws harder, has more control, has way better secondary stuff, has logged way more professional innings which makes him way closer to the majors. Way.
  6. Doesn't he need to add 100 lbs for these bartolo comparisons to make sense
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) You guys are missing the point in all this. 1- I said from the beginning that I was throwing s*** out there. 2- a deal was proposed by another poster that suggested both Danks brothers be sent to Philli. The Phillies payroll is pretty well maxed last I read so in order for Philli to take on payroll, they would have to trade payroll as well. That's why I threw the names of Rollins and Lee into the mix. The proposed trade of John/Jordan Danks for Domonic Brown just isn't going to happen. I could see Danks and Tank as a possibility IF the Sox were willing to take on a higher salary player or two from Philli. Let me stress again, just throwing s*** out there. There are better players out there to go after than Brown, I'm just entertaining the possibility is all. I don't really understand how Rollins is your top target this offseason with all our other holes and weaknesses. But go ahead it's a free country. If you think Rollins is the single missing piece, preach on.
  8. I can't wait for a few years from now to find out if the cubs used all these bullets correctly. Even if some pan out, none project to be as good as Sale or Abreu. Bryant could still bust with the bat and be a negative defender. This could all blow up in their face, on the new jumbo screen.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) I wouldn't mind getting Peavy and then flipping him at the deadline. Let the cubs do this. I want to win damnit. Too early to concede SP18
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) Frankly, still no. If someone wants to give up a Puig for a pitcher fine, I'm open, but without that, Quintana outdid most #1 pitchers in WAR this year. If he gets any better next year, the next level is challenging for a Cy Young. Give me these 2 insane lefties at the top of the rotation, put them with a decent offense and a non-terrible defense/bullpen and they will pitch us into the playoffs. I need someone worth that, someone who can, right now, carry this team into the playoffs for 3 years, before I think about this. Yes sir I agree with this. Every day that goes by makes me realize even more what a wonderful 4 we have in Sale, Q, Abreu & Eaton. Garcia, Conor & Rodon can join that list next year. But yea I believe we can win if we can sign some legit talent to bridge the gap between the two groups I mentioned above. I don't mind throwing a lot of money at a player if he locks down a spot for 3-5 years. Let's win, we have bad ass reinforcements on the way in the coming years.
  11. What if the Sox FO feels Rodon can slide into Q's spot and the team not miss a beat? That's how we could get a superstar hitter and still contend. Rodon could be that good in their eyes.
  12. Didn't somebody win a game on an intentional walk pitch, maybe 5-8 years ago?
  13. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Well said, but I think the bold is the sticking point. Some people would argue that trying to propel a 73-win team out of mediocrity isn't worth giving up the picks. I happen to disagree and think the Sox can be competitive with the right offseason, but it's a valid viewpoint. Yea man. The purpose of most rebuilds is to draft Sales and Abreus. We have the most coveted assets in the game. Let's go win now please.
  14. I just don't see how contending and Viciedo starting in LF mix. That's like mailing some Tylenol to Liberia.
  15. Wait a minute...does anybody think Tank will be starting for the CWS next year? I thought him gone was a given. KW says they plan to compete so why would Tank be on the roster? I guess raise your hands if you don't think tank wil be gone.
  16. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 07:47 AM) When Robin was hired, I was one of the posters who complained that hiring a manager with zero experience was a bad move. Many people defended the move saying that a manager does not need experience to do a good job. Now I think the bullpen and overall weak roster was the main problem with the 2014 team. That weak roster extended to the AAA team since that is where teams look to find replacements for injuries and non-performers. You give Hahn an A and he is responsible for the overall weak lineup and the makeup of the bullpen. You give Cooper a B and he is responsible for the production from that bullpen that Hahn gave him. But you give Robin a D for the overall results. If Hahn had assembled a good bullpen or if Cooper developed a good bullpen the team probably was a .500 team. That would have made robin a pretty good manager. I've been a Robin supporter but his lack of experience shows. How can you expect a guy with no history of leadership to be a good manager. I mean the closest position to leadership he ever held was being a junior senator from Illino...strikingly similar.
  17. Juicy. Can't yell at your manager Chris
  18. I don't see the Twins as an organization that wants OG representing it to the world.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) I wish more people would post their grades, then mine wouldn't be so scrutinized. I never thought this thread would turn into this. You make a compelling statement/sentence, but I grade them based on the factors I've listed in my many posts: acquisitions, record of the team. I just am stupified that people think he's way better than a C, which is an average grade. Believe me, if the Sox ever contend again til the final week of the season I WILL give Mr. Hahn credit. Man I feel like your grade of C is for the team on the field, its W-L record, the lack of playoffs and just generally how it all played out in 2014. And I understand your point that Hahn is responsible for the players on the field, and I think he really screwed up with every FA not named Abreu this year. But Greg Abreu is sooo good that he personally lifted our offense out of the toilet and is the single reason we are talking about contention in 2015 and can use words like retooling instead of rebuilding. Greg do you feel like Hahn has accelerated the rebuild or not, just in general. Like do you weigh the Davidson blunder equally with the Abreu success?
  20. It's tough depending on 1 player in general. The Nate Jones injury was huge and had a rippling effect on the whole bullpen. If VMart were to get hurt or decline, then I'm scared we would have the same lineup again. I think we should trade for a young left-handed hitter. Maybe spending this year just doesn't make sense.
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) Hahn a C? No, I'd give him a B/B+. In one offseason, he brought in the teams 2 best pitchers and had another excellent draft class. If anything, Hahn has really turned this franchise around on a dime. I thought this teams outlook was going to be abysmal for awhile when he took over....today, I can confidently say I believe they are a playoff contender next season. 2 or 3 smart offseason moves and they are right in it. This. Maybe even an A. I still can't believe the FO team turned it around this fast. I think KW and RH are on to something big since we have the funds, in theory, to supplement our superstars better than say a Pittsburgh. I don't see them wasting Abreu n Sale next year.
  22. Ackley's stats kinda look like Gordon Beckham's. I hope we use our trade chips for someone a bit more powerful and exciting...like someone good.
  23. How many games would Martinez play in the field next year if the Sox signed him? I'm on board with getting him but we still need to trade for one more good bat that plays in the field IMO. Victor + new guy and we've got a deep lineup.
