If Quintana is traded it should be for a guy like Stanton. Quintana can fetch a haul with his age, contract and results.

Yea guys I click on the day's thread every day. I think the best thing to happen is MiLB grouping the box scores for each team's affiliates. That was very welcomed.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) Trey Michawzxkqiuywxz has a bright future. Oh good point. So davidson probably has at least one year without pressure. C'mon dude, build up some value.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) Some guys are just not as good as their numbers say, whether it is a flaw in the numbers, or whatever else can be argued. Edwin Jackson is one of those guys. Incredible stuff, just never quite realized how to use it. For sure. And he's lost those extra ticks on his fastball that would bail him out. No way he's pumping easy 96-98 anymore. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) I do think it is overstated, but I also think it exists. Not every AB, situationally. But especially when the game is on the line, a menacing hitter on deck helps your cause. I think you bring up a good point. It's a situational concept. I really don't see how macro stats could study it. You'd have to watch every game played.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Which is why I said if he has value left. If other teams believe he's a lost cause, then obviously you keep him and hope for the best. I don't trust the Sox to help him make the necessary adjustments. Is anybody from the low ranks pushing his AAA spot next year? If not, then who cares if he plays another year at Charlotte?
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Again, there's no effect for it in any study. If you believe in lineup protection, show evidence that it makes a difference. People shouldn't trust claims made without any supporting evidence. I'm open to the idea of it making a difference, but no one's been able to find one. It's not a claim that having two dangerous hitters in the heart of your order is better than 1. Or like somebody else said, watch an NL game.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I mean, lineup protection HAS to mean fewer IBB's to your best hitter, right? That's definitely how it works when you have piss-poor protection from the 9-hole in the NL. And presumably you'd rather have your best hitter swing the bat than get an IBB...or else it wouldn't make sense for any manager to intentionally walk the other team's best hitter. So there has to be some effect on overall production, just from IBB rates, right? I'd say absolutely. It's trendy to bash lineup protection right now; it's been popping up the last few years. Some new insight, but it mostly seems just to be trendy bashing. Very much like BA and pitcher wins a few years back, getting slammed to hell. These people seem to forget that all stats are doing is measuring things accurately. They aren't trying to convince you or twist your arm, they're just sitting there quietly being stats.
-
Yes. And pitchers will always use the seams.

I feel like all WAR does is group all the good players, and then you have to go back to stats to make sense of it. But of course most baseball fans already know who the good players are because they are good players, and consequently have good stats. I'm glad it's not used for MVP considerations. And I'm also glad that it's not used by front offices for evaluation. ^that last part is just for riling up

Can the sox win the World Series with Sale Scherzer Quintana Rodon Bassitt Danks

Watching that last game makes me think we have to go for it next year.

Ldf & Peavy, are you guys roommates in Senegal or something; where do you boys live?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Marcus Semien You think we'll turn over 2-3 infield spots this winter? Marcus at 3B, Sanchez/Johnson 2B, Alexei SS? I think Connor is here to stay, at least through 2015.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Well. There is one obvious answer. What, the 9 hits this month and the .280 OBP in the 2nd half don't have Billy Beane salivating? 1 hit this last week? GMAFB

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 01:58 AM) You haven't said anything here that is logically valid. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 01:58 AM) You haven't said anything here that is logically valid. Sure he did: Defense & Position probably have little to do with the voting, if anything. You have to do some pretty amazing s*** to win an MVP without being at the top of the triple crown stats along with going to the playoffs. Ichiro, Verlander, Larkin, Pedroia are all outliers compared to typical MVPs. Position matters huh? Look at Barry Larkin's year after he won MVP, 1996. Destroyed his MVP stats from the year before all while playing SS. Well he didn't make the playoffs that year, but the top two in voting did, Caminiti and Piazza. I think more people would argue that Larkin's best season in 1996 was more valuable coming from a SS over a 3Bman...nope. 90% triple crown hitting & playoffs, 10% you better not be a DH.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 03:10 PM) Have you ever seen Barack Obama and Spencer Adams in the same place? Or maybe they are working together. I mean, Obama = Osama, and if you just take the "s" from the end of Adams and you move it to the front...SADAM Be careful America. Why has the location and handling of Adams been kind of vague lately? (Without the near perfect analogy).
-
Why is adams' location of late such a secret like when the president's in town.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Nonsense. They are both terrible. I find it hard to believe the Sox have any plans for them other than to make sure better pitchers take both spots on next year's roster. I can't disagree with this. -
Danish, Hawkins, Anderson & Jared Mitchell. 3 1/2 first-rounders; does that get Stanton? I feel like Anderson and Danish in a package should get us to any discussion table.

Plus we're gonna add some type of positional badass this winter and maybe a pitcher too. Don't you think Hahn is going to add at least 1 more young, MLB-ready core piece this offseason? +1 more for the sox soon. We have the best pitcher and hitter in the game, arguably. Cubs have what?
