QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) It wouldn't surprise me. I think he finishes with around 40, maybe 42,43, but I expect his average to continue to rise, maybe even getting up to 310 by the end of the year. I will totally trade some slugging for a higher OBP. I think Jose finishes 300/355/590. A helluva year and a wRC+ of around 160 from that line and around 5 fWAR. Not bad, not bad at all, a true star player. Wow what a rookie line and I cannot wait for next year; no doubt he'll be able to better prepare. Imagine if we get somebody nasty to bat behind him, .400 OBP would become his floor.

I was thinking the whole point of having Konerko this year was to hide Dunn's uselessness against lefties. If it weren't for Konerko there would be more people hating him, not more power numbers.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Dunn isn't anywhere near what he was in his prime. He can still do damage against RHP though. He would fit in nicely in Oakland for sure. You will choose to ignore this because you hate Adam Dunn. Just pointing it out though. I wish I didn't hate him so much so I could think more objectively. Any positive stat that he has annoys me to the point of wanting to disprove its actual credibility. Like OBP. Getting on base is good. But I don't ever see him get on base so wtf is this stat talking about?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) At some point if you are a contender you have to ask yourself if Dunn for the stretch run is somebody you want to give a ton of at bats to. The answer is Gosh, NO!! There are intangibles in baseball. One is called buzzkill. And you don't want Adam Dunn on your contending team. One of those 1-for-30 slumps will get the fans all hot and bothered and booing your contender. Would any GM risk his reputation on Adam Dunn at this point? I doubt it. Now in the NL as a pinch hitter? I guess maybe. I pretty much agree man. There are some excited fanbases out there for sure. I know you can't measure pressure really but the only evidence, signing with the Sox, points to him wilting under the weight of it. He wilted so bad that it got people fired and changed the direction of this team forever, including s***ting on the end of Konerko's career. All GMs know that AD to the Sox was one of the worst signings in the history of the game. Why would another GM risk that 0-30 that happens a few times per year? The odds of him being the "missing piece" to another team are so small that the risk of him being a giant failure has to outweigh that enough to laugh at the idea. Well, here's to hoping some GM thinks AD's 2-run single tonight is the beginning of a surge.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) It would be about a $5 million price tag for the claiming team. I don't think it happens. I don't either. That's over 500k per HR unless you think he'll hit more than 10 in about 60 games.

I would be interested in clicking on a new Rodon thread at the top of PaleHose if it was there. Maybe the first post could continually update and add a line everytime he pitches, like a BR game log page, and then the discussion would be ongoing. I only mention this because he's a special prospect and I feel like some people probably don't enter many minor league game thread discussions. He's gonna be fun to keep tabs on even for those here who have little interest in our minors.

If there was a team interested in Dunn, I would be super surprised. Even for free, I don't think contending teams are taking him. OBP is not a good measuring stick for AD, and other teams know that.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) So we decide to keep Sanchez on the roster only to put him on the bench.... Love it... not.. Lol. So that's the bottom line, there's nothing more to it? KW & RH just want him to sit on the bench around trade time? You're basically saying there was a conversation that went something like this: RH: Let's call up red-hot Sanchez and park him on the bench for the rest of the year. KW: Excellent idea. Let's go watch the 2005 videos again. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) In the two clips respectively. where Viciedo and then Abreu walk in a comical manner, my guess is that they are imitating Sierra. I've noticed how funny his gate is. My interpretation of the whole "schtick" is that the players either know, think, or suspect that Sierra is gay, or at least like to tease him about acting as though he is. Moises is so over the top about being openly affectionate toward the other players, and they appear to be giving him a little "taste of his own medicine". In any case, I don't think that they are dancing. They are mocking his manner of walking. I have no idea how much of the whole thing is just "tongue and cheek", or based upon something real, but it appears to be particularly prevalent with the Latin players on the team. I think it's hilarious, and they seem to be having a lot of fun with it. I have been living in Costa Rica for the last 25 years, and the culture there is much less "politically correct". "Ticos" openly tease one another about such things. I know that such behavior would be frowned upon in the U. S., but not in Latin America. Somebody has to make the showers fun

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

He could have taken over the city. What an asshole. Go find Josie, u were better off. -
It was cool of him to take Chris Sale's spot in the rotation the only time I flew home a couple summers ago. I didn't buy the tickets to see Sale pitch in the red uniforms. No no. I was lucky enough to see Colby Rasmus & co tee off on DA right away instead. Thanks again Dylan.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) Far better than Moises Alou's dugout antics. I always wanted to hear about a late-inning situation where he didn't have enough "hand-cream". Would he freak out and demand to borrow somebody else's hand cream?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) It shouldn't matter how the roster gets selected. I know it makes for great twitter fodder, but at the end of the day, the ASG should all be about the individual players, and not winning a game. Totally. It should just be the best players, but I gotta defer to Hawk here, it's the fans' game.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) To me the NBA allstar game is a ton of fun to watch cause everyone knows it's just a show and the players have fun with that. This whole the game counts thing but we're still going to have fans vote and kind of try but not really is beyond stupid. That's pretty well said. Do you think if managers selected the entire roster, with only the goal to beat the other league, we would see some epic games that the fans would actually enjoy MORE? 3 game series?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) Also the Sox saying "We know you can steal bases, don't steal any more bases so you can remain healthy." Yes I agree. Minor league SB totals are akin to Kerry Wood's simulated game records. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) There are very few players that I have wanted to let their value "expire" in a White Sox uniform but Alexei is one of those guys. I was a huge proponent of moving Danks/Floyd/Reed and every other decent closer we have had since Keith Foulke but with Alexei, I think his defense at a premier position is too important to let go for what would be, in my opinion, an underwhelming return. Even with looming physical deterioration, Alexei still has great plate coverage, some of the best instincts in baseball and he does all of the little things right. Looking at the potential 2B/3B options, defense should be a priority at SS. I do think, at the least, Alexei should play out his contract as a positive player in the lineup. Worst case, that's a powerless SS with good contact skills and slightly above average defense (slightly above defense being a regression from his current form). Having Alexei as your SS and #9 hole hitter through 2015 (2016 if he doesn't fall off) is not going to hurt any team. Agreed. I guess it all depends on how the FO views our MI depth. You have to agree though that Alexei is pretty much our one trade chip to get a good player.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 05:22 PM) I just dont like managers coming up to stall while a bench coach is on the phone with someone to see if its worth challenging. If you come out of the dugout then it should be an automatic challenge. Yea but what about the old baseball tradition of the mangers coming out just to talk s***, slow the game, change momentum etc. Managers have to be free to come out, but I get your point too. They are using it that way.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) This one is my fault, I was attempting to make a joke that clearly has not gone over the way I intended. The original statement was that he'd have gotten more if he was Cuban, clearly accidentally crossing up "being able to sign as a full free agent" with "being cuban", so I decided to make the "He actually is Cuban!" joke and clearly has not gone well. I apologize if anyone wound up offended, pin that one on me and let's drop it please? Balta your quote was really funny and I wanted to give you props but I had to address the attack. Haha dude is Cuban

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) first the stupidity of this post is too much, no one, I mean no one is introducing race into the conversation except you...... I am a minority and never once did I mention race. you are then mixing apples with oranges Rodon is a college drafted player and there fore limited with slot allotted money and is in no way a free agent where is the sox org wanted to can walk away. where does the idea of " If Rodon was a Cuban what do you think the bidding would reach?" came from. RE TEX.... also with your comment, again apples and oranges...... jesssss can anyone stick to the what is said without taking liberties. Actually you did enter race into the conversation. I was simply referencing one of the top debates in contemporary baseball, a debate with deep boras ties. I meant Cuban national obviously. Sorry to get your itchy trigger finger itchin.
-
Oh no, almost 7 million! Isn't that close to the price of Keppinger & Downs for only 1 season? Who cares, Rodon is a cheap lottery ticket with pretty good odds. Signed him cheap. If Rodon was a Cuban what do you think the bidding would reach?
-
Is there any database where we could find out how Rodon faired vs all college players drafted the last few years? It world be cool to know that he struck out say Shwarber 5 outa 6 times. Sample sizes might be tiny but if would be cool to know.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:51 PM) Completely agree. I still think he's the guy called up if Beckham is traded. I agree. He's earned more time.
