Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?
Jerksticks replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Which of those guys that were lost would you actually have wanted back? Have any of them other than Liriano been valuable contributors to anyone? I think his point was that the team given to him this year was worse than last year's. The names don't matter at all. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Me. He hit 100. Guarantee it. Had no idea he could do that. Now I understand the bro fest over his outings and the high rankings.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) IFF the Sox do decide to have a fire sale, was wondering if there is any smidgen of hope at all. My question....does anyone know if any team has ever unexpectedly won the division after they had a fire sale...or even went further into the playoffs? Was just curious if anyone has ever benefitted from it when they pretty much threw in the towel. Thanks. Depends if you think they are going to move all the pitching. Doubtful right? So if the position players all suck this year how much worse can it get? I'd bet on a quick turn around, knowing who our GM learned from and still takes counsel from. Plus we generally have one of the higher payrolls. Plus I think we absolutely nailed this draft...but I guess that's a few years ahead of next year. I don't think it's as bad as if we were a mid market team. No worries mate!

I want some better players. We need a superstar or 2 in the field. 1 would be nice. Then Robin can get to work. -
I like that Micah's splits against righties and lefties are pretty much the same. He's showing a nicely rounded game this year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) It's not completely ridiculous, but it's definitely premature. If you compare June with April, they're two completely different players, except for the K ratio. I don't think the White Sox are going to get caught up in what his batting average is, when/should they decide to push him to Birmingham in August. They definitely don't HAVE to push him up. They're probably not going to be recalling Thompson to Chicago this year, either. The White Sox aren't looking at his overall walk totals, they're looking 90% at the player they're watching for the last 10+ games. I agree. But it is just another sample overall, with a bigger sample of suck compared to a little sample of beast. By the end of the year there won't be room for Jordan Danks in Charlotte.

Where's he gonna play in Bham? Trayce, Walker, Early and Mitchell already a log jam

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 07:35 AM) Assuming they sign, which players just drafted will crack the White Sox top 25/30 prospects within a year? I'm saying Anderson, Danish, May, Mitchell, Lowry, and Michalczewski (if signed) will all be prospects by this time next year. Last year's draft produced prospects in Hawkins, Barnum, Beck, DiMichele, Hansen, Brennan, Basto, Barraza, Johnson, Ayala, and Coats, including a few good late performers in Kiser and Grabe, as well as two interesting pitching prospects in Guerrero and Throne. Damn we're stacked.

I think Carlos Sanchez has a 60 game hitting streak of just 1 hit, never 2 or 3 or 4 or 0, but always just 1 single.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) Damn, he's got a good second gear... Swing's pretty too. Tight through the zone.

Gordon Beckham: Player of the Decade and future HOFer

Lol Just wait. That .350 peak is coming. Just takin the guy awhile ? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Let's remind ourselves of how much of a piece of s*** A-Rod was, is, and continues to be. Never used PEDs. Only used them once. Piece of s*** idiot meathead who has been on a consistent drip of steroids and PEDs as long as he's been in the bigs. He was caught in 2003 and continued to use them. He's caught again. He's an idiot and a disgrace. Legacy shmegacy. The biggest scumbags are the guys getting caught post 2004. They really have no excuse. I hope they do let these guys into the hall of fame but only as porcelain engravings in the urinals and toilets. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) He has definitely looked better the last few games. Perhaps his back issue was more serious than anybody let on. I suppose we can only hope that was the case and that he is healthy again. Ughhhhhhhhhbbbbbgggghhhhhgggghhh
-
Yea but at least the two guys that can get on base 30% of the time are next to each other, which can only be defined as progress. What say you now there Steverino?

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) Unfortunately I think the Sox are several years away from being relevant again. I'm sure the Sox will have someone ahead of him in the mean time, but the draft reports of his power and comparisons to Howard make it hard not to dream. But like you both said, he's about as raw as you can get. I think Tank is our LF at least through next year. Too short and dumb for 1B like someone said. Wilkins and Black seem like 2014 late season call-ups at the very earliest...if you even believe they are prospects. All this talk just confirms my suspicion that 1B might be our major target when we start selling.
-
I feel like our future at 1B all of a sudden needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. No longer does it look like we'll be signing Paulie to 1 yr deals til he hangs em up, and maybe we get another year to solve the problem if we use Dunn next year, but really what is the plan moving forward? Dan Black? NotaChance Gallagher? Viciedo? I hate all three of those choices but if you think the FO will go there do explain. Wilkins? Lohman? Since it looks like we are going to be sellers, who are the top guys in other farm systems or freshMLB that we can snag? I'd like to assume nobody is untouchable. Please redirect this thread if it is misplaced or delete it if it sucks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Even with our long losing streak, we STILL have a better record than they do. Haha f***ers!
-
This is a clear case of sucky players sucking. The sucky defense is just a result of the sucky offense carried over to the field. A sucky or a non-sucky manager can't really help it when a team outsucks itself.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) OK. This team hasn't seen Gordon Beckham since very early in the season and has lost 6 in a row before his return. They lose game 7 in a row and it's Beckham's fault?! Why this hatred for Gordon? Possibly you are an Angels fan and just don't want to be caught criticizing that underperforming group? I hope future captain and future statue on top of the Sears Tower to replace the spires Gordon Beckham takes Felix deep to cement his captainship.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Well, we traded Santos when he was 28. Reed is 4 years younger. So I don't think we can exactly compare the two. The only difference to me is that because of age we should get a bit more.
-
6 games until KW's 60 game evaluation.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) I haven't though the team looked lazy this year. More dumb than lazy. Stuff like running into outs has been happening way more often than guys not taking a base when they should for example. Yea I agree. It's really just a whole bunch of very low batting averages magnifying everything. Maybe Hahn gets crazy. I hope Hahn gets crazy. He learned from the best GM I've ever seen in any sport.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) Why? Why pay him not to play? Who needs those ABs? Assuming Beckham doesn't lead us to the WS, how about Jordan Danks? I know it's been trendy to be down on him since he didn't blossom at age 23 or whatever, and I had kinda written him off as well, but the dude quietly tore up AAA the last two years. Well "tore up" is subjective but he's added a tool to his game he never possessed- plate discipline and walking. His slugging isn't ideal but CF is one place we need to shore up the defense and where his light slugging can play. Dude has seriously put in his time and earned a look. Let De Aza and Kepp take DH til we see what we have. Can't do any of this s*** with Dunn around though.
-
I also think we need to be fair to JR because he was basically dealing with his two sons of the White Sox, KW and OG. I can't imagine how difficult that was for him. He probably sided with Ozzie's ideas because he ultimately thought KW to be the smarter and more valuable of the two moving forward. Maybe he realized Ozzie was poison and the "nicest way" of dismissing him, without stepping on his huge fragile ego, was to let him self-destruct. All speculation obviously. What really sucks is that if players like Tank, Flowers, Dunn and Beckham were half as good as KW projected we'd be a powerhouse.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) His OPS will be in the .600s shortly. Much like the bulk of our God awful roster. You're probably right but at least he has a decent approach (short and quick) and can take some walks. I feel like he hits a bunch of balls at guys. He'll end up as apiece of toiletfish just like the rest or them.
