  1. So is this the major league ready talent KW was talking about? Sure doesn't look that way on the surface So, Sox scouting must have absolutely coveted this guy to make this trade; that's what excites me. I have faith in our pitching scouting. Maybe we are flipping him for a bigger piece?
  2. Maybe he wants a Dunn and Rios for say Steve Strasburg. That way we lose the deal cuz they get 2 guys and we get 1.
  3. I'm excited to see CQ next year. I bet Robin bats him 3rd, and with his contractual motivation, he absolutely rakes. I don't see KW trading him. Viciedo probly gets the starting shot leaving Rios, De Aza and Lillibridge fighting for time with Rios getting the initial nod. It's going to be fun watching this outfield sort itself out.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) This would be fantastic if true, which is why I doubt it's true. However, Romine is rather expendable to the Yankees who have Montero. Tyler Flowers craps all over this dude's minor league stats. Why is that a good thing again?
  5. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) The Sox just want to push Beckham. Last year he was an offensive machine compared to what Escobar would be like. He has no stick. Agreed. I also think this is an indirect push to Tyler Kuhn. Now Tyler can have that "Why not me?" motivation in spring training- kinda like Beckham back in 09. I love it.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Not very. I'll be excited if Kenny goes ahead and does rebuild instead of this guise that the 2012 team will somehow be contending for anything. I disagree. On the pitching side of the ball we are pretty deep. I'd like to see KW get a young lefty bullpen piece in one of his trades to slide into Sale's role. I don't want to miss a beat there. And since we're going to have 6-7 guys that can throw a competitive 6 innings, we need to make sure we have a that shut down bullpen, which IMO we almost have. If we arrange that offense right we can take the division easily with our deep pitching. No other team in the AL central can pitch worth a lick behind their stars IMO.
  7. LOL. Yea he's more like a nice set of darts with naked ladies on the flights.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) I still think CQ makes sense for the Braves. Something centered around a Beachy/Minor/Delgado type would make sense. Really, I think they may be a bit down on Vizcaino too. Is CQ a FA after 2012? If so, he's gonna be one motivated dude to get his 1 payday. This year is his shot at the riches.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) I'll admit though, I am also biased in that I think Mark at his money/years is a better investment than Danks at the money/years he would receive in an extension. I totally agree with the bolded. I think they both win you about the same amount of games over the next 3-4 years. I like Mark's control better, I think he snuffs the running game better, he wins Gold Gloves, and frankly he just doesn't let people score. He's less of an injury risk because of his velocity and simply because we can sign him for only 3-4 years. It just seems like a better, safer contract for a team that desperately needs a good, safe contract right now. With Sale moving into the rotation, I don't see us keeping both Mark and John. 3 lefties? Really?
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Haven't hated the Sox this much in many years. Kenny should have been fired. I'll always be interested in the Sox, and look forward to the moves. I'm at about a 2 right now. M-56? Stop. It's like the M-60 in First Blood but just 4 less.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) Um, that does sound like a decent description of the Rangers. For sure. The Giants have a spot for Quentin and could use a Thornton and a Floyd.
  12. I'm at a 10 for offseason excitement. I think we're looking at a post '04 type of offseason that makes you go "whoa".
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Danks and Santos to the Rangers could bring back quite a bit. A ton of possibilities if they are truly rebuilding. Sure would be nice to send this package to the NL. I think most of the guys we are talking about trading would be more appealing to contenders considering the contract situations. We need to find the team that wants to go ALL IN next year.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) It's really tough to guage Danks value coming off a subpar year with only 1 year before free agency. One of the Yankees pitchers I liked was Hector Noesi. Right-hander, low 90's, has the look of a middle of the rotation starter. Get the Red Sox involved and Danks value goes up to the Yankees. I like the idea of playing the Sox and Yanks off each other; I guess it'd be foolish not to! Does anybody really see us starting 3 lefties next year anyway?
  15. I read that quote from KW about some team surprising him with a proposal the other day, and it got me thinking about potential packages teams would be interested in as opposed to "Quentin for x, Floyd for x, Danks for x" etc. Off the top of my head what would a package like Floyd, Thornton and Quentin get us from a contender? IMO, this is the type of deal we might see this winter; not a blow up but a real shake up that nets us some legit pieces.
  16. 5 letter word, starts with P and ends in S.
  17. I don't really care about any farm reports since most prospects bust anyway. Santos and Sale are two of the best young arms in the game and have established themselves as guys who get the job done. Beckham and Morel at least play amazing D so I have no problem letting them learn up here. And maybe Dayan really is a powerhouse, I dunno. What's wrong with that? How is that bad? Because we don't have highly touted guys like Eric Hosmer? Where are these teams that are graduating superstars every year? Matt Wieters and Greinke sucked for a long time. I just don't see how being at the bottom of these grading articles has any importance when nobody EVER knows if a guy is going to be good until he's called up. And even that doesn't settle it since the learning curve at the big league level is usually multiple years, even for many HOF players. GMAFB with all this jazz. Even if we had Hudson we'd still hear about our crappy minors. Whatever. There are only 750 MLB players and most of them suck compared to the 30-50 good players and the 20 or so superstars. We're doing fine IMO; it's the veterans that are pissing everyone off.
  18. Thank you Sox players for totally sucking and not even coming close to career norms this year. Thank you Morel, Beckham, Rios and Dunn for your daily 0-16 that squandered a pitching staff that would have likely destroyed this year's AL playoff teams. Flowers is not really a downgrade at all. Catchers pretty much suck all around the league; at least we might have a shot at throwing somebody out a few times a year now and maybe a few RBIs out of the position...or we turn that 0-16 into a solid 0-20. Can't wait. I'm all for cleaning some old house.
  19. What happened to the "No Hyperbole" rule. So if everyone knows Ozzie is an idiot but I think he is not an idiot, then by default I'm an idiot? I mean that's the ONLY reason for saying "everyone knows" right? To say the rest of us are idiots that disagree with your opinion.
  20. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Proven. Time to move on. Absolutely proven this year. It's ok that our 2 young guys struggled but adding another 0-8 to your existing 0-8 is impossible. I wish we had Kotsay this year; Oz mighta had a chance. In hindsight, none of this was Ozzie's fault which is good.
  21. It is so painfully obvious to promote this man that there MUST be some good reason for not doing so. No way in hell a Captain Obvious idea like "promote Dayan because of his numbers, he's ready etc" is not pondered by the Sox' war room. There's definitely a very good reason. I just wish I knew what it was.
