  1. I'm about 30 for 30 at Midway and 10 for 10 at O'Hare. Both running max payne- 100% with my safety. I prefer Midway but i suppose for any further winter flying I'll choose O'Hare now. Why be the guy on the plane in the middle of Cicero?
  2. Sale is still gonna throw a ton of baseballs for us this year. I see no problem with taking some load off his young, still-developing body for a season. Like someone else said, it's not like he's some 25 yr old minors dog finally getting his shot; he's just some kid with a rocket arm- let him throw some baseballs. We have all the time in the world with this kid.
  3. Smoke the division, Central champs, AL champs, make Philly look like punks in WS- Halladay wins 2 games but we smoke the others. I predict a BETTER year for Konerko because I think he figured out hitting a little more last year; he's letting the game come to him now. Dunn- Sweet fancy Moses Sale, Soria, Marmol- best closers in the league. Floyd- Monster season Danks still doesn't take the next step EJax- great first half, bad second half but shows up in the playoffs big time leading the staff. Peavy- ? C'mon karma, reward this work ethic of his. We become one of the best teams in history if he beasts.
  4. Love the picture of pinched pennies and the fact that it's 50% of original size. Just curious, what did you search for to grab that pick? And is anybody in Austin or what?
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Wow, first calm down, I'm not giving anyone s***. And 2nd, brush up on your reading comprehension skills before you flip out. I feel like I'm talking to a wall. Joe, I feel like you're the wall that walked into my thread. I don't want to watch every game with sox fans so I'm getting MLB.tv regardless. Sometimes ya gotta kick back at yer place and watch some baseball, wallboy.
  6. Yea, I'd like to sit in dead silence with another sox fan, is that weird?
  7. ^^I second this motion. I hate that there's no punctuation between the period and the exclamation point. Most of the the time I feel like the exclamation point makes me look all giddy n homo when really all I was going for was just a bit of emphasis. It's just too bold for typed conversation. Pisses me off! But not THAT much, see?
  8. I'm gonna get the mlb.tv package but I'd like to catch some games with Sox fans. I know the Warehouse pool hall is gonna have all the games, but that's all I got on my radar so far. Hit me up!
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) For 2011 and beyond........................Beckham. I say Beckham as well; I still believe he's the 2nd coming of George Brett with even more XBH potential.
  10. QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) No bull man but I like to let the numbers speak for themselves. According to baseball-reference, in 3092 career at bats Mauer owns a career 162 game average of .327/.407/.481/.888 with 16HR and 81 RBI. Those are the facts. In fact aside from a slight difference in batting average its almost the same as Chipper Jones career 162 game average of .306/.405/.536/.941 with 21 HR and 107 RBI. And if you are a saber guy right off the bat you say Chipper Jones is a much more valuable player becuase batting average is hogwash and OPS is everything, Jones OPS is 52 points higher than Mauer's. Chipper Jones has had a fine paying career, but the highest he was ever payed was $16M annually in 2005 as part of a 6 year 90M contract he signed in 2001. Since then he has had average salary of about $12M. And after all that Mauer gets an 8 year $184M contract becuase of what, hes a catcher, becuase he went to HS and grew up in St. Paul, becuase Twins fans wanted the local favorite around forever. Thats awful becuase he is NOT EVEN AS GOOD OF A HITTER AS CHIPPER JONES! IF you are a saber guy! I think Mauer is light years better than Jones at being able to hit what the pitcher gives him. Most guys need their pitch or a mistake to get a hit. The way Mauer just effortlessly flips balls everywhere is a once in a generation kinda thing. Jones is uber-valuable because he's deadly from both sides, but in no way do I think he makes the game look as easy as Mauer. Both studs obviously- I dunno who I'd rather build a franchise around. I might pick Jones even though I think Mauer plays the game at his own level. Mauer owns the batter's box.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Still tempted to make a joke. Haha, right? Even more so if anything. Nice big board!
  12. Man this is great news. This can't help morale at all. What a message to the younger Twins players: play your ass off and we'll probably trade you since you're just a commodity after all, not a member of the family. This is the first chink in the armor, IMO, simply because players are gonna be thinking about their own stats more instead of winning. Just a hunch, but i don't see this being anything but bad news for them. And Kyle Gibson, Shmyle Gibson. If they trade Liriano they still have to trot out the Mustache, Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, Duensing, Perkins...blah blah...I think we smoke the Twins this year.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Will never know until Morel gets a legitimate shot. I'm not saying he should be handed anything. But to continously trade off young 'spects in this neverending quest to 'go for it' every year when this formula has proven to be futile is not very intelligent. Don't get me wrong. I'm not at all saying guys like Morel and Dayan are untouchable. But not for a 34-year old, defensively-challenged player in decline. I don't care how much money we'd get back. Totally on board with all this. KW loves the 1-dimensional past-prime guys and it scares the hell outa me with Young especially. I'm not sure if Young was ever on KW's radar as much as he's been talked about on here, but if so, then yikes. Yikes especially since the Rangers have to sell really low on Young. And Yikes at the over-pay we'd probably end up giving, although the Rios deal instills a shred of confidence in regard to overpay since it's a similar situation. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) Nick Masset would be nice. But wait, Coop couldn't fix him. Yea, that's who I was referring to. Shame on dude for even thinking I was wishing Richar was here.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Yes, because the KW formula of jettisoning away young talent in order to win now has proven to be very successful of late. I still think the Griffey trade was the worst ever. He had nothing left. Swisher was at least defensible at the time it happened, but Griff never made sense. Point being- just because it hasn't worked lately and we're a little upset at times doesn't mean he's ever gonna stop doing it. Switching Morel for Young sounds exactly like a KW move and I'm gonna be super nervous until Young lands somewhere else. For all we know, KW might think we have a gaping hole at 3B and that stance has some argument to it, even though most of us probably disagree (maybe not, but we do).
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 08:40 PM) I could get behind that. His 200 hits would look really nice behind Pierre, and it front of Dunn/Konerko Sure would take some pressure off Bacon. I think Bacon becomes that 200 hit guy eventually. What about the D at 3rd though; f*** it? Young's still got a few years, what happens to Brent? Those 200 hits sound nice but developing Morel seems pretty cost-effective and he's hit at every level.
  16. I've enjoyed reading this discussion for nostalgic reasons. This might actually be the last Michael Young thread ever posted on here. Soak it up.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) I really think you're on to something here, Dick. Clearly a player who came from Cuba and had a pretty nice season in the minors in his only try at professional baseball - one who btw can actually put the bat on the baseball - is an excellent comp to Jordan Danks. Good show. Thanks. I couldn't even really come up with a response.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) I bet when Jordan Danks is 28 he'll be able to hit .300 at Durham. That would make for an interesting bet. So sad.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) So do you have any idea how to set up the Google Docs? This is cool Joe. When do you plan on doing this? I assume we're not going to have much time since 3B, CL, and SP might not be decided until the end of March. I like the simplified idea- maybe just AVG 2B HR RBI OBP. Nothing wrong with BB and K's either but then I have to look up stats on each of our guys. SB isn't necessary IMO since Pierre is the only guy that would be fun for; maybe that could be a separate thing at the end: guess Pierre's SB total. The idea of tinkering with ABs H BB HR 2B to get AVG OBP OPS til the cows come home sounds like too much work. I like the idea of doing the community averages although I'll take the under on those if we're betting.
  20. He did collect quite a few hits while posting a +.300 BA. Played for 3 teams last year in a brand new country for the first time. I have no problem sticking him in our minor leagues, but this dude really has no future as a regular in our outfield. Better than JoDanks with the bat at this point if that means anything.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Here is the Whitesox.com article I just hope there's not some other injury that was forcing him to throw the way he did, resulting in the lat tear. Cmon Jake!
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I don't know that I thought he was a hero...the question is, should we regard him as a villain? No. Indifference probably the best option. The main point is that the statue is on enemy grounds, representing the enemy. I'd like to see a strap-on screwed on during the crosstown series this year; maybe use some Tapcons soaked in liquid nails to assure its permanence.
  23. QUOTE (since56 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 06:38 PM) A cub fan did it to make us sox fans look like trash. We all know how jealous they are of us. A real ballpark and a world series trophy who could blame them? Besides any defacing of anything Cub can't be all bad. It made me laugh so I have no choice but to support it. Next step is hiding some rotten meat somewhere in the stadium. It's like college all over again.
  24. If these 2011-2012 "All in" teams go deep into the playoffs I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to swim with the big boys and offer Danks 100M. Didn't we throw 90 at Hunter?
  25. Ricketts is completely handcuffed by the horrible contracts and cub fans are agitated that he isn't pumping money into this Titanic of a baseball roster. He's getting the label of being a cheap-ass but there's really nothing he can do but wait it out. With the potential revenue of the cubs year in and out, Pujols is a very legit target for Ricketts. If cub fans really think Ricketts isn't going to try to win with the cubs they're delusional. He's a cub fan, but he's just laying low during this necessary purge. I expect Ricketts to make huge moves once he is able to... as his livelihood depends on putting butts in those seats. Pujols would be perfect and it scares the crap outa me that he could actually do that. We'd become completely meaningless if Pujols signed there.
