Jim Thome hit 52 HRs in his age 31 season...in Philly...not at The Cell....
-
The more 1B Dunn plays the less for our backup first basemen Viciedo. He needs to find ABs too.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Look at his WAR, I bet you the less defense Dunn is allowed to play the greater is WAR. Dunn could easily be a 6 WAR guy in a DH only role, which is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. The only way Dunn can be bad is if he is allowed to play defense and costs enough runs to negative his .900+ OPS. Hell yea man! So if we bring Paulie back, which it kinda looks like might be happening, what do you see happening to Viciedo? I only ask cuz I love the kid and I'd hate to see him not break out here.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Actually...as it stands right now, Dunn and Viciedo would be a 1b/DH platoon, which is substantially better than the 1b/DH platoon of Kotsay and Konerko. Duh dude. Duh. We all know who The Tank is. Seems to me we just replaced Paulie today, but maybe I'm missing some other big news Should I put that in green?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) It's not my favorite signing of all time...I have an irrational hatred for Adam Dunn. But given what our options were, I suppose I understand the move...I just fear what the next shoe to drop will be... Exactly, our team isn't any better yet. Not one bit. If PK stays then yes, we are way better. As of right now, this is as lateral as it gets folks. I hate Dunn but I'm still really excited the team looks different. Nice job KW!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) Now it will be interesting to see what Kenny does at 1B. Braves are going with a kid at 1B (Freeman maybe?), so why can't we give Viciedo a shot? Rays will probably plug Jennings into the outfield. 2 examples of contenders plugging kids into important positions this offseason.
-
Ok so if Paulie's gone then let's assume we get to go cheap at 1B with Viciedo (anybody wanna predict best case, full time stats for him?). If the $12M for Konerko was really available, then we have $12M to throw at upgrading DH. Dunn/Viciedo/Carlos/NewOutfielder all rotating through DH, 1B and RF. That actually puts 4 good bats rotating in the DH and Dunn can still play 1B the majority of the time. If we really have 12M, we can make some noise.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) A couple years ago I might have agreed, but we've been going through seemingly the exact same issues with inconsistency basically since 2006. Agreed. We need a fire-baller back there next year. That'll win us a bunch more games. I like Putz where he's at and if he's our closer, our bullpen might be another implodathon time-bomb.

White Sox offer arbitration to Konerko, Putz.
Jerksticks replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I guess I kind of understand the pride angle; ya'll are saying that it's a good thing to know about a trade before it happens? I guess I just don't get how that would be interesting if it hasn't actually happened. I understand the little pride issue of knowing things somebody else doesn't; that's common with people. Outside of childish pride, I see no reason for it to matter. What am I missing? For example, "SoandSoJohnny2156 says the White Sox are interested in Koch." So lemme get this straight: the whole benefit of this is that we get to discuss something early? Something that hasn't happened yet or might not happen? It never matters til it happens is my point, so it definitely seems like a pride issue. Willing to be corrected. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) With all due respect... You have no idea what you are talking about. None. Hell less than none. Do a little bit of research, then get back to me. PK to the Angels for Agon? Caaamon. Let's let the pride ship sail a bit. The only people who know what's goin on for sure are in KW's war room, not out leaking stories up and down Wentworth. Where else does his under the radar reputation come from? The participating parties will let the world know when something happens; give me 1 reason why I would wanna listen to anything else? Speculation is always just that, speculation. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) Your top point is exactly why PM's are used alot of the time. This board gets national exposure at times when there is inside information, and some people dont want their sources outed. Secondly, who said they offered VMART that kind of money? They do have money and they are going to spend it, but that Vmart story was a great deal of public bulls***. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. National Exposure HAHAHAHA. You're killing me, trying to make this board sound important. Sources outed ahahahahahahah. Sources like the best man at the wedding? Even if KW himself logged on here and told us about a trade it would still be meaningless. It's a public league, absolutely nothing about a message board would ever have any tangible relevance. We're just fans, not Watergate investigators. Nothing personal man, but cmon, you can't act like this board has street cred or that it's above the common fan; it's not, this is the common fan. Go White Sox. -
Somebody was talking a week or so ago about how offering AJ arbitration makes him less attractive to other teams because of the draft pick loss, and that we might not offer arb out of respect for him, giving him a better chance to land on a new club. With the kind of money being thrown at Buck and VMart I think we should definitely offer AJ arb now, PK as well. Apparently the price of catchers has gone up considerably, so even though they are nice guys, too bad, it's a business.

I like Pena, but he really needs to take a step this year.

Sox claim P Waldis Joaquin off of waivers from SF

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) actually looking at the list, he could be #2 with some argument. Haha see, our farm is improving. All hail B Bell -
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) I hate that no matter how bad a player is, inevitably there will be a thread about the Sox going after him. It's always the same thing too. "But what if Cooper can fix him/He just needs a change of scenery". It's like being a kid and my parents telling me the store brand cereal is just as good. No it isn't and the Sox aren't going to get better if our targets are Zach Duke and Delwyn Young. There's no reason to take it personally. It takes all kinds of people to make this world go round. I mean if new threads bother you so much, what happens when your wife wants to go to the ballet? Clearly that seems like a horrible time to most of us, but not to her; so do you teach her a lesson by embarrassing her, condescending her, and finally convincing her that the ballet is for morons? I wish there were more threads.

I'd replace Pierre with De Aza all day, every day. Too bad it's not up to us.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Jerksticks replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) Trading Hudson was stupid. They just gave up on him too soon. I like Jackson's arm. Check it, I love the arm, but the money taken on was what made is so bad, imo. All we as Sox fans can do is hope that Jackson pans out. Sox said they didn't like Hudson and it looks obvious that whatever judgment they made was too short-sighted. Who knows what might happen going forward, but they wrote a rookie off in a couple games, some of which were pretty darn good ones. So even if he pitches well it's a bad trade? What if we extend/resign him? Still bad? If he's our best pitcher next year...still bad? If Hudson sucks this year...still bad? And finally, if we win the world series and he walks...still bad? There are still a lot of scenarios where this trade is a win for the White Sox. No sense jumping to early conclusions. Kid's got twice the arm Hudson does, money aside, and he's the one on our team. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) I feel strongly both ways about this uniform change Haha, me too.

I like the committee idea if Sale is in there. Sale, Santos, Putz and Thornton is not a typical "closer by committee" that blows up in a team's face. It's formidable. Are the Sox going to give another bullpen spot to a young farm guy?
-
I don't think Putz is going to cash in this offseason. Hopefully we get him for another 1yr deal, with better incentives.

Who is going to be our best starter next season?
Jerksticks replied to balfanman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) If he pitches like he did in August, he will win the Cy Young Hellz yea! Good to have some dominant new blood for next year. He was a major, major acquisition. -

Jerksticks replied to balfanman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I predict Edwin Jackson in a land slide. I hope the starting staff shows up this year because we could dominate this division. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Starts with Beckham and goes from there. Perhaps Beckham + Viciedo might be enough. I'd rather have Beckham and Viciedo. Isn't AGon hurt for a while anyway? And he wants a ton of money..pass on that overpay.
-
Nice move.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) If Peavy does come back at 100%, I would rather see Edwin Jackson get a shot at closing with Sale in the rotation. I think with Jacksons stuff, he could be one hell of a closer because he wouldn't have to pace himself out at all. No way. Jacks can throw 8 Innings of shut-out ball any given start. I love having Sale in the pen for 2011. I don't see it as wasting the draft pick since our first rounders usually suck anyway.
