Guillen, Williams almost come to blows during shouting match
Jerksticks replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with both of your points. There's no way Kenny is responsible for the players performing this poorly; we'd be good if they were all playing well. The problem is that our 2 best hitters going into the season (Quentin, Beckham) were question marks. With their salaries being so low, we needed to pay premium for a proven RBI bat or 2, thereby offsetting the question marks of Beckham/Quentin. That flexibility would have lightened the pressure on these 2 young, budding superstars who, for god's sake, don't need all this responsibility. Took Derek Lee years to recover from the wrist injury, but he did. Now his problems might just be age. -
Not trying to bicker over who the better pitcher is, because it is definitely Danks right now. But the way Floyd used to effortlessly pitch 7-8 innings when he was on, was something Danks will never be able to do. Danks has to work too hard to get to the 8th inning. What happened to that good Floyd, the one who would take no hitters into the 6th like it was his job? That's why we can't sell low on the kid; he's better than this and his contract isn't hurting us at all.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) People are going to keep saying that until both of them are retired. And when that happens, Danks will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. People are going to keep saying this until both of them retire. And then that happens, Floyd will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. See, I'm right now.

Exciting time to be a Sox fan with big changes on the near horizon. We all talk about restocking the farm even while knowing our GM loves to send kids packing. So not through your eyes, but through Kenny's; who would you sacrifice a bunch of kids for? Any players not typically thought of as available? Like somebody else's Danks, Beckham etc.
-
Disagree on selling low on Floyd. I still think Floyd might end up being a better pitcher than Danks. He doesn't seem like much of an injury risk with his easy delivery. With that curveball and his ability to go deep into games, he's one of our few quality contracts. AJ has to go now.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) 10. Kotsay, Castro, Lillibridge, Nix, Vizquel = who cares. All for sale, none worth a damn. This. What about making our bench spots more of a pipline with the minor league guys. I'm sick of wasting resources on old cast-off trash, guys past their primes. Why can't we give some Knights guys at-bats ever? Never, unless it's call-up season. If it was more fluid, guys up here would start worrying about their jobs and might play harder. Who knows. I'd trade AJ though; he just doesn't care anymore.
-
So nobody gives a hoot if Buehrls is just up n traded? It's almost like a "Don't let the door hit yer ass on the way out" mentality floating around here. Anybody else sense this?

Haha, is watching Crasnick's live-typing the only way to follow this?

Addressing KW in your title might make him read it; please don't do this KW. -
Does Lucy get first crack at C if AJ is traded?
Jerksticks replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Would Flowers/Lucy get the majority of playing time or would Castro get an undeserved promotion as well? If we send Castro packing as well, don't we just become the Rangers and their catching carousel? Hell, even if we keep Castro we might have 3 sub-par catchers all year. Detroit is in contention and in desperate need of a catcher, about as desperate as it gets. Aren't most teams almost always looking to upgrade catcher? Perhaps we are undervaluing AJ's appeal. -
Based on his seniority alone does he get the promotion ahead of Flowers? Does this catcher split time with Castro. take over his role or get the starting nod?

Gamethread: White Sox(16-23) vs Angels (19-23) 7:10 PM
Jerksticks replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2010 Season in Review
I rarely post, but way to make fun of that green. Always a pleasure to see someone get it. Cmon meow Peavy -
So he can hit AAA pitching, and hit it quite well; what's next? Take Gordo's spot at 2b?

Over/under on KW vote of confidence on Guillen
Jerksticks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with the guys saying it's the players' faults for this horses***. We have some really talented pieces here; I just don't see us being that far off. If we are still tanking hard after 60-70 games, I'd like to see some kids up here, find out what we got, and change the look up quite a bit before next year. But some of these guys gotta go. We really aren't that far away if Floyd gets back on track. -
And why do they play the Outfield song AGAIN when he gets on base. Cut the music; dude's gotta earn it back. It's only cool when he's hitting doubles down the right field line.
-
Not just ground balls, but weak ground balls. There's no way Kenny and Ozzie aren't taking notice of this awful presentation of self.
-
Dayan Viciedo is a legit prospect. He is proving he can manhandle AAA pitching; think it's good he can sustain it in stretches too. 2 walks is pretty ridiculous, but maybe Cubans just believe hitting is the only way to get on. And he's young as all hell. What if he keeps this up for another month or two; how long can we really hold him down there? Is September the absolute earliest?
-
If you're KW, who's on your BIG BOARD to replace Ozzie?
Jerksticks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder if all these candidates could make the players hit above .200 and force Peavy to hold the lead he was given a couple of times. New manager needed instantly. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) I am not here to start more pessimism, but honestly the whole In Kenny I trust is old. He hasn't given me one reason to trust him since the 2005 season. I wholeheartedly agree this is a long season and the Sox will probably get on a hot streak soon, but still, this team is clearly not a playoff-caliber team as constructed. And we don't even have thr prospects really to get a big name and worse yet, we don't have the prospects that can come up and make an immediate impact. I kinda disagree with everything here. You say he hasn't given you one reason to trust him since 2005, but every year he's been in charge we've been competitive at least through July-August. Every year going into spring training, I've felt like we have had a chance to win the division. Some years are better than others, but no more The Kids Can Play or some boring manager like Jerry Manuel running the team. Ticket sales are higher, payrolls are higher, Ozzie Guillen is pretty much Mr. Baseball, and there is no revolving door at any front office position. I mean, the Twins sucked one year and hit paydirt with Joe freakin Mauer; it happens. We have the best prospects I've ever seen this team have (I'm only 25 though); granted they aren't Joe Mauer, but they aren't Kip Wells and Danny Wright either. There is upside down there. There is upside everywhere; I think we all got a little greedy with 2005. That being said, I think Walk has to go. Like he said in that recent interview, the pressure is always on our batters; I feel nervous everytime somebody is up to bat, and that sucks. We need some carefree, fun hitting coach to make these men play like kids again. The pitching is awesome. Also, Adrian Gonzalez would be really nice not only for his bat, but to get every Mexican kid in Chicago wanting to come to the ballpark, and maybe we could make a big dent in the cubs strangle hold over the city. To sum up, we are making huge strides. I want Alexei gone too, but I'm done ramblin mannin it now

Red Sox claim Santos Luis from White Sox..

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) I dunno, Charlotte's roster is fairly strong this year already Love it. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) The exact same arguments were made last year after Wise went 0 for in the first game. Yea but Wise was a 31 year old with no tools, and Kotsay is a...oh wait. Well, like someone else said, his beard is worth a month or so of platoon until Jones takes the position full time. Teahen's defense and Garcia are way bigger concerns for me.
-
All the points in here are great. What else is great is that this thread never even gets started if he goes 2-3 with a BB yesterday. Not even really defending the guy, just sayin let's give it some time; we are the class of this division and it ain't even close.
-
This feels a little forced Kenny. Only move of yours I've ever disagreed with.

84/150. 0-5 on Colorado...hurts.
