On the Floyd/Danks train, Gavin is driving.

How old is Carter now Balta? And how soon til all the conversations begin?

Even if Teahen has a mediocre year, his contract is rather tradeable. Once Morel is ready, Kenny will get some good talent for Teahen; great talent if he picks it up. Not much risk here.

ST: Mariners vs. White Sox 2:05 CST

Nix is in mid-season form. Is Josh Fields even a major leaguer yet? And Nix looked that silly against him? This dude hasn't changed a bit over the winter. -

Did Mitchell just pass De Aza on the depth chart? -

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) De Aza looks pretty good. He'll probably be up at some point this year. I agree. If Kotsay falls flat on his face, this guy good be looking at some serious at-bats. But that probably won't happen. -

Does Nix have a noodle arm? Those last throws has some serious break in them, barely beating the runners. I never noticed it at 2B last year. -
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) I disagree. The whole point of making a public statement is to hold yourself accountable. The scrutiny is welcomed. I don't have an inner battle with alcohol. I have ~5 drinks/month and have no desire to have more. Does everyone have a battle with every other addictive substance? Everybody was a bad word, I apologize. Rephrase to "Those who drink regularly, proudly or not.....". Alcohol is the only addictive substance that is considered legal and socially necessary. A drink a day is healthy for your heart too, don't forget. Again, sorry to generalize with "Everybody"; that wasn't accurate, especially in such a touchy subject for some. Again, way to man-up Jenks; hope you inspire more.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) LOL. Apparently you missed the entire thread then since I in particular was giving very detailed examples of fixes he has applied to pitchers as well as stats refuting his "regression" comment about Jenks. Dynamite drop in there though buddy. Don't go the BUDDY route, cmon. I think the guy's overall point is still valid about Coop not being Mr. Fixit. To your point, I think it's up to the player, not so much Coop. I think Jenks looked shaky last year too, didn't anybody else see that? Definitely a regressing year, which by the way has nothing to do with Cooper (IMO). Thanks for copying and pasting his ERA and WHIP from another site tho; heroic at the very least, perhaps some land could be forever named.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) lol there were a few actual highlights within this thread's fracas. Kroeger with a HR, flowers 2b and viciedo singled him in. hudson, 2ip, 4k, 0er. daniel cabrera, 15 units of suck (the scale only goes up to 12, who knew???) opposite field too, what a stud

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) give me the name of ONE high-profile pitcher who failed besides Javy Vazquez (and that wasn't even a failure, guy was still a decent pitcher) Na, I think the guy was talking about guys failing to reach their potential under Coop (Masset, Aardsma etc). I see what he is saying, BUT I disagree with him, respectfully being the difference. And to the other guy, are you kidding? I saw what seemed like 10 high horses knocking down a regular horse, a horse named striker. Well, maybe 1 or 2 high horses with a couple echos from the followers. How can you miss the common theme from the whole first page of this mistitled thread? So Danks with a hit today; what else?
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) agree. you just set yourself up for failure/scrutiny. Also, makes those who drink feel uncomfortable. Everybody has an inner battle with alcohol whether they admit it or not; and I don't think anybody wants to be reminded of it, especially by a successful person. That's the important part, but again, way to man-up Bob; F em all!
-
Wow that first page of this thread is creepy. Striker, I'd swear some of these weirdos would kill you if they saw you; or 1 guy would hit you and the others would play follow whichever leader is more popular. I get your point; Coop gets credit for fixing guys, but avoids the doghouse when guys fail. I just think some guys can't put it all together and never will; not Coop's fault. Sure seems like enough guys put it together HERE that Coop deserves SOME credit. So I disagree with you, simple as that; without the creepy tirades. THERE IS NO MEASURING STICK FOR INTERNET RIGHTNESS, but man, so many of you want to build one. On a side note, I just bought an old table saw today for 100 bucks and it rocks, it rocks. It won't be used to build that pointless measuring stick tho, I can tell ya that.

QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Too funny that this happened to be your 666th post! Good for Bobby. How can anybody be their best at anything if they drink alcohol? Now that he's removed the poison from his life, he has no choice but to focus on baseball and his family. Nice work BigBoy, way to man-up.

Gordon Beckham: Player of the Decade and future HOFer
Jerksticks replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I see him batting higher than .300; his eye is too good and he can put any outside pitch down the line. He's going to become one of the toughest outs in the league. I see his prime years at .350 with 200+ hits, 50+ 2Bs, 30+ HRs, 100+ RBI and more walks than strikeouts. I think he's Jeter but better. -
Why isn't Ricky Henderson ever in Steroid talk?
Jerksticks replied to Jerksticks's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) I understand what you're saying and it's true as far the steriods. However, once the end of July hits and players especially older players begin to wear down the "leaded" coffee begins to really flow. Baseball is really an endurance game and as Yogi Berra would say 90% of the game is half mental. Look at players who really wore down at the end of the season such as Dye. This is becoming more commonplace due to the lack of greenies. Of course, the banning of steroids is making a huge difference but only for a select group of players. The greenies is making a difference in everyone's performance. The game is becoming a younger players game again. Excellent point, and I couldn't agree more. -
He put up hall of fame numbers before the steroid era supposedly started, but he also played in Oakland and put up some randomly crazy years later on. Seems he gets a pass from all this. Do you think he ever used? Maybe in 99 too?

Is that Main Street area supposed to be next to Camelback? If so, I want in on building it. Anybody know the contracting company that won the bid?

And who cares what is fair or not, or hypocritical. This is war; and in wars, important battles are fought. Right now, I smell blood in the water.

It's not live or die for the other Arizona teams. Spring training dollars are not the meat of any team's revenues; at least I hope not. Anybody that lives outside of Arizona probably doesn't go to spring training, nor will they ever. It's just the facts. I wish I could do more to make Ricketts uncomfortable. Some sort of grass-roots campaign needs to take hold here. If all the residents of Arizona knew that these ticket and rental-car taxes could go to fund better education state-wide, the cubs would look like the bad guys. It's possible to ruin this for the cubs if enough of us campaign, and the right steps are taken. Anybody good at web design? I'll pay for the website; we need to get the people of arizona against the cubs. I would love nothing more.

I was 16 in 2000 and I remember whipping an apple at the wall in my room. The dried up chunks still remain at my parents house.

I don't worry so much about Garcia/Hudson because the front 4 is so powerful. What was it 2003 or 2004 where we had that rotating door of crap 5th starters going like 4-15? Our front 4 are way better than that year. I don't think Hudson would post awful numbers if Garcia goes down, either.
