Pitching is the key to the Sox' chances in 2020. The lineup is stacked.

I don’t think you really believe that. Every aspect of our lives can be negatively affected by something toxic. -
Damn Thomas was sooooooo good. If he would have stayed healthy it would have been a top group of Ruth, Williams, Mays, Thomas, Bonds

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
Jerksticks replied to YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agree with you guys but that seems like such a win now move. I love the idea of all that but with the innings limits for Kopech & Cease are we ready to fire a big bullet for Diaz? Due to the year-to-year volatility of relievers, Diaz included, is this the time to pounce? Diaz had a down year so he’s cheaper than normal. Lot to think about- not sure how to sort it out myself. -

That’d be tough for me to swallow especially after 2019. You’d hope Hahn can play better poker than that -
Can the 20s be the best decade in Sox history?
Jerksticks replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Fortunately, both outcomes are looking as good as they can. -
Interesting. Would be cool to sort it for non-allstar war or something more related to depth. Picks like Trout or Bryant are just luck basically.

It might be time to dust off the Gordon Beckham breakout thread again- how long’s it been?

I think everybody gets that W-L isn’t MORE important than other stats. That’s just beating the dead horse of “1st lesson on sabermetrics 101, 2008 edition.” But it certainly has its place, that’s for damn sure.

Still matters for hall of fame and CY. And it definitely matters for GMs signing free agents; just not as much as it used to. It definitely still factors in though. A GM would be an absolute idiot not to use all information available.

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
Jerksticks replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was thinking 7-12 fWAR. 30 steals and he’s trout -
I think the one thing everybody should agree on is Madrigal is 9 this year. He’s a rookie, too bad. I lean towards this. 1. R Anderson batting champ Not perfect but I like having our team middle finger up first ? 2. S Moncada best hitter 3. R Abreu just cause it’s what they’ll do 4. S Grandal good leadoff for inning 2 if they go 1-2-3 in the first. 5. R Jimenez I’d prefer he switches with Abreu but whatever 6. R EE I’m sure he’ll be 5 instead of Jimenez because of seniority but ok whatever 7. L Mazara just because the rookies should be 8-9 but I could see Robert bumping him to 8 at some point. 8. R Robert Rookie. Too bad just play him here in 2019. Solves the problems of pressure, seniority etc. 9. R Madrigal Rookie. See above The older, leadery guys are going to bat ahead of rookies It’s respect. Use that to our advantage for building lineups. Makes it easier for RR and RH. Let Robert, Madrigal, Jimenez, Mazara etc push Abreu, Granda, EE lower for 2021 by putting up better numbers in 2020. The opposite way is scary.

I still think our lead off hitter isn’t on the team yet. Maybe for this year but not for 2021 and beyond.
-
Exactly. Part of being a smart person in charge of something is isolating that something from risk. There’s like zero reward with Puig and tons of risk. The idea is insane.

I think so too. While we are going to be very competitive this year and may win the division, we all have to remember that this is still a rebuilding year and growth year for the young guys. The FO knows this and has somehow managed to make us super competitive this year without hurting development time or losing long-term assets. It’s pretty remarkable what they’ve done. Team is pretty ready to roll IMO.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

Dejuicing the ball would make the white sox the ‘27 Yankees. We actually have light-tower power at 8/9 positions, juice or not. -

It sure seems like Betts is going to get a monster offer from the Sox next offseason -
For sure! And Vaughn, maybe the best hitter on planet ?, is on his way too.

Free Agent relief pitcher ideas besides Betances

I think bringing back our boy Hudson sounds like a nice story. Other than that, let’s let the best arms in the system fill in the spots. -

I’m scared if Cleveland sells everything and rebuilds. Imagine the head start they’d get trading Kluber, Clevinger, Carrasco, Lindor, Ramirez, Bieber, Hand. Probably more guys I can’t even think of. Maybe keep Bieber. Yikes. They’d be tough in 22-23 -
One day he’ll reach the vaunted status of guy with a MacBook at Starbucks running his baseball insider startup. Until then, he’ll be the guy with a MacBook at Starbucks running his baseball insider startup

I think Madrigal is going to be the guy you want up in the 9th no matter the situation. Like he’ll just always get it done and be THE fan favorite because of that.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Jerksticks replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yea but don’t you feel like he’ll get ABs through Jun if he starts slow? -
Why is a high OBP high SLG LH bat with 6 years of control something you toss away for a reliever? Hader maybe? just curious if you guys mean trading Collins for a top end reliever or just a reliever.
