KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
Jerksticks replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How lucky are they that Machado signed after Sox fest? I wonder if they paid Manny’s agent a million to delay the announcement until after SF -
Kiwi, are you saying that Moncada isn’t oozing with special talent? Are you saying that everybody had it wrong across baseball? if that’s what you’re saying then say it. If instead you are frustrated about his first season, join the rest of us and see how just a few positive gains in a few areas makes him a 4 WAR player.

There is no hope for the Chicago White Sox (the thread?)

Mercy. I’m going back to bed -
Ok can I change teams? This makes me want to puke

I’m not mad at Rick or anyone. Eloy is going to raaaaaaake

Dane Dunning: No TJS just yet, rest and monitor

if you dislike Hahn, he was available -
I think some Sox diehards are upset about Machado but 99% of fans are probably indifferent. I’ve been saying the whole time Harper is the better fit and I hope we get him so everybody is having fun again in a month

I love that idea!

Hey, I think I speak for everyone when I say we all understand how an extra year works and how it seems like a no-brainer. Everyone understands that layup point of view. It’s the finding worthy enough reasons to go against the captain obvious move that makes it fun to talk about! For example, there’s certainly millions of PR dollars available by taking a moral high road and throwing shit all over the cubs here. It has some actual monetary value. Not sure what it is or if it makes it worth it, but it DOES exist. One has to acknowledge this. There are other reasons that also provide value. Is is it enough to overcome the captain obvious layup opinion? I dunno
-
I agree. Treat your people well. Then make a big announcement saying something like, “We could never leave a qualified player down in the minors just to grab a year of control- we wouldn’t be able to get a good night’s sleep or live with ourselves if we weren’t honest people. Ask yourself, how would you like it if somebody stole a year of your life selfishly like that.” Throwing that much shit on the cubs right now while they are currently dealing with tough PR issues might be worth the millions of dollars lost.

For sure. I keep trying to play devil’s advocate in my mind about this, but I really can’t see it any other way either. Top guys are just getting to be dangerously expensive, which is forcing teams to find creative ways to create value

Ri.Justice still loves the White Sox (or is on JR payroll)

I’m glad we didn’t sign Manny. Just didn’t seem like a good fit to me. The rebuild is still the rebuild, looking super solid but set back because of Kopech. -
Manny played like a piece of shit in the playoffs. I’m kind of glad that Eloy gets to take the reigns for a year before we sign Arenado and trade for Trout. Let’s keep adding high character guys. I still think this is all fake and the real target is Harper

We did this to ourselves. The FO never said, “forget your wife and kids, hobbies & work for 3-4 months.” But I can’t help but feel it was implied...
-
For sure! It would be great if we all could send our shorts to Soxtalk’s taxidermist for preservation and display
-
Truth.

Usually yes, but I don’t think OPS should be used at all to measure Madrigal, in fact it seems kind of dumb. He’s 5’7” and claims his only job is to get on base. Why use a stat with slugging to determine anything? Are you saying a .400 OBP from him with a .300-something SLG wouldn’t be playable?
-
I’ve definitely had diarrhea before that’s looked like Taco Bell meat. Not trying to draw conclusions at all; just welcoming a opportunity to talk about my shit with others
-
Shit. But now WE know. So if we know, the Phillies know. There will never ever come a time where Soxtalk will know something about anything, before a major league team knows. It’s impossible
-
You know you love it
-
Probably! But shits gettin hot man!

Lotta ifs. Harper allows us to trade for studs. Machado fills an area of need but limits our trade prospects. Seems like the same thing but it’s not. Both is just tasty.
-
Moncada was the number 1 prospect in baseball and has struggled his first year and a half. To say these guys in A, AA and AAA are going to be studs out of the gate or even major league players is what’s wrong. If they take the Moncada path then forget about 2020 or maybe even 2021. If we sign Harper we can now use the strength of our farm (outfielders) to trade for an ALREADY PRODUCING stud that plays a position where we are weak. That’s why it’s chess- not everybody has the ability to see a few moves ahead
-
Exactly. The Sox have a Major Problem at the other OF corner. The closest thing in the minors to solving it is many years away. Harper is the prize. It allows the Sox to trade from that depth instead of depending on it. It’s the smart play. Machado is Checkers. Harper is Chess.
