  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 05:25 AM) So everyone in the countries are crap and they should be stuck where they are? You seem to like Venezuelan baseball players, but if they are from a s***hole, what are they doing roaming our streets when they aren't being watched playing baseball? The commie Cubans, why is Jose Abreu here? Dangerous. No one is arguing these countries have issues, but that doesn't make all their people horrible people. You just gave reasons why a reasonable person would want to flee. Seems most people came to this country initially under the same premise. Dick I never mentioned anything about the people of these countries, not sure where you got that from my post. Merely saying that if all the countries were ranked, some countries have to be at the bottom. And if North Korea isn’t a s***hole, then what is a s***hole? I’m only arguing the accuracy of the term s***hole.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 21, 2018 -> 09:42 PM) You make it sound like the US is the only country where immigration is an issue. The main push for the Brexit was around the same issues. The people in the UK wanted to kick out the LEGAL immigrants to stop taking their jobs and paying for them in their economy. If anything the issues of immigration are worse the here, it's just that there are more here due to the size of the countries involved. Totally. You know what’s funny? Is that the huge crisis in Europe, and it’s an absolute nightmare of a crisis, is caused by a huge influx of millions of people from a few s***hole countries. Failed states are s***holes. Places with constant war, oppressive regimes, the inability to feed citizens, the inability to have any record keeping are pretty much the definition of s***hole. As an example: If for some reason I was told I had to live somewhere besides the United States but I could pick anywhere I’d be like “Cool, let me check the world map and pick a place. So many choices, well let me start with where I don’t want to go:” In no particular order those countries would probably be Venezuela, Syria, Iran, Chad, Somalia, Libya, Yemen & North Korea, due to the governments (or lack thereof) and the treatment of citizens. Not because I’m racist but because these are pretty much s***holes. Failed states are s***holes. I think Trump is right on this one, but the President is required to have an unrivaled level of tact, which he has zero. But he is right that failed states are s***holes because if they aren’t s***holes, then what is a s***hole? If the countries of the world were placed on a bell curve, some would be pushing 3 dev. Wouldn’t those be s***holes by default. Or maybe no countries are s***holes and that’s an argument I’d be willing to listen to, because otherwise SOME countries have to be the s***holes by statistics. Or maybe the bell doesn’t apply. And please don’t tell me about human beings or skin color, just talking about conditions of governments and treatment of citizens here.
  3. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jan 20, 2018 -> 01:34 PM) I don't see Yelich as being a fit for the rebuild, and I don't see him as being a CFer going forward. Looking @ Fangraphs, he has a negative DRS as a CFer. What's worse, this is in the NL, where the opposing pitcher hits, and thus there may be fewer opportunities for a CFer to make plays. One would anticipate that his DRS would worsen in the Big Boy AL. He DOES have a positive DRS in LF, and comparable power numbers to Avi. However, him moving off CF would reduce his value to an acquiring team. IF Yelich were to be acquired, I'd view him as a replacement for Avi in one of the corners, rather than as a CFer. [Though, I wouldn't want to send Miami anything of value to do so, and I do not support his acquisition.] I agree with all of this. Love the idea of Yelich’s bat in our lineup but as somebody mentioned the other day, outfield isn’t really a problem for the Sox moving forward. Sure, CF is a bit up in the air but Robert might take care of that. With the outfields in the minors loaded with guys and not enough playing time to go around, it seems like a position where the Sox have the safest bet of playing “wait and see”. If the Sox are going to fire a bunch of prospect bullets for a Yelich-type core piece this early, maybe 3B is the way to go. Least amount of depth there. The only other sense I could make of a Yelich acquisition is buying lower with our prospects than we could sell him for in the future. I dunno.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 11:41 PM) I like playing my video games with cheat codes. I would sit front row for a team with a cheat code. Ours will be playing RF. And Pitching. And 2b. In 2019 we're using the bleeping Game Genie. Haha spot on. Dude Hahn totally got out ahead of the trend a year early. By next year there might be 20-25 teams rebuilding and Hahn has put the Sox miles ahead of that whole pack...about to lap them. Hopefully 2019-2030 isn’t the era of the super teams but the Era Of The Super Team: CWS
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 09:51 PM) This is the post of the year or at least the offseason. Shields and Gonzalez as choices? LOL. People will pay to watch those guys be 2/5s of our rotation? Ridiculous. My thoughts are that White Sox baseball is always super fun to watch because it’s White Sox baseball. And when they are good, oh baby it’s just pure juicy tastiness. 2018 is going to be one of the most fun years to follow EVER. Think about that Greg my man. Next year will be one of the most fun years ever.
  6. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 06:15 PM) Personally I'm glad we've kept the look we've had for the last 20+ years and I don't want to change it. Loved the sleeveless growing up, but as an alternate I wouldn't mind seeing the batterman style but with the current color scheme (Similar to the new BP ST hats this year). I think that could look real sharp. Love all this. I’ve always wanted to see them incorporate a green as an alternate. Black and green. Think they’d sell boat loads on the south side.
  7. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 07:44 PM) Coop will fix em. No, wait!! Already fixed. Pair a aces!
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 07:37 PM) We can twist the stats anyway we want to suit our needs. DRS says Engel was a -1 in CF in in 799 innings while Leury was a +3 in 406 inninngs. Leury had a UZR of 3.4 while in CF Engel 1.5 . I know Leury's sample size is much smaller in the stats you used and the ones I used. However I don't think, nor do the limited numbers suggest, that Engel is any better than Leury out there. Engel probably is better on fundamentals given he has played CF very often while Leury is fairly new to the position. But since Leury is a better hitter and the defense is not a significant factor it's still Luery's job to lose and it isn't close. I disagree that it’s Leury’s job to lose. I think it’s either guy’s job to win with Engel slightly ahead due to highlight reel capabilities and years of control. Both are fantastic guys to have on the bench but I’d say the Sox will favor Engel out of the gate in Spring Training. Just a hunch. But I’ve been biased ever since somebody compared him to Trout 3-4 years ago.
  9. So my better half wants to play...say somebody loses interest and the team just sputters there...what is the league policy going to be?
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 11:45 PM) I don't disagree strongly, but generally speaking, I do think we still need flippables to collect assets. BA and Razzball both summarized our system by saying "strong up top; sharp decline after 10 or 15," and I tend to agree. I think there's room for collection all the way up until the first "compete" year. I think after this year the Sox will be the only team where publications are forced to discuss the Top 40 Prospects. The breakouts at the back end are going to blow everyone’s mind.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 06:49 AM) Since you seem to think Soria sucks so much, what are you basing this opinion on? Clearly you didn’t watch him enough to form this opinion through the “eye test”, so I’m curious to hear what qualitative data you’re using to come to this conclusion. Some players just scar fan bases from suckitude, good peripherals or not. Soria did enough stinkin to make the KC fans glad he’s gone. Off the top of my head I equate the feeling KC fans had when Soria was coming in to Linestink. Sure Soria’s peripherals may suggest one thing. Thousands of KC fans glad he’s gone suggests differently. I think both are equally valid as data to form an opinion of the trade.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 6, 2018 -> 11:43 PM) For the first time in.....MANY years, I anticipate rooting for wins all year long. This roster is almost entirely filled, or will be filled, with our "future". I'd like to see them improve, I'd like to see them win. In years prior, we had enough veterans and fillers that I wanted them to lose, even at the expense of many of those same vets and fillers. But now, losing will come at the hand of our young core. That's not what I want. WIN BABY, WIN. AND DAMNIT IT FEELS GOOD AGAIN. Yup well said. Would love to bury the reverse standings thread for a long time. Maybe dig her back up in 2035 or so
  13. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 12:00 AM) I mean, Alex Call will always be my boy, but I'm going to reach waaaaayyy down the list. Not even in mlb.com's top 30 for us..... Tito Polo! He hit .301 across 2 levels this year, and stole 34 bases. Came over in the Yankees trade with Rutherford and Clarkin. Yes indeed! Tito is one of those guys I could see being an easy fan favorite. Loud speaker: Tito! Fans: Polo!
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 6, 2018 -> 08:02 AM) The stats say he was pretty good, but you can ignore that like you usually do because KC fans say that he was bad. ok. All he’s saying is that KC fans are happy he is gone, which is true.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 04:59 PM) My concern on #1 would be that we get used to move the market up to a point he deems acceptable, only to then sign with his preferred team. I agree this happens especially if those that want the Sox to suck in 2018 get their wish. The only way I see us getting Machado is if all the young guys are kicking ass this year and the team is exciting. Not necessarily winning, but hanging tough and exciting like the end of last year. Need to build on that to be an attractive destination. Tanking is done. Time to build.
  16. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 10:09 PM) WOW....so we'd be drafting minor leaguers? Basically our own prospects. I love that idea. With me finishing up post graduate schooling and retiring as hockey coach of my younger son's team Ill have some time to build the necessary logarithms and detailed analysis to be somewhat competent in this. Haha s***, I'm gonna get crushed. I want one of Eloy and Kopech. Not greedy just one.
  17. I know nothing about this but would definitely be interested.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 06:46 PM) The White Sox pulled off 2 enormous trades last offseason in an era of 3 100-win teams. The Yankees made a trade for Sonny Gray this year. The Yankees have that much to trade because they traded Chapman and Miller the year before and that pair of trades defined the world series. We had the NL home run champ traded. We had an all star/silver slugger winner traded. I think all we're missing this year is a "Sale" like deal, and that's in part because of the superteams and in part because of the weak FA market. The big guys are holding back this offseason to get under the luxury tax multi-year penalties because they know what is available on the FA market next year and we're going to have a Yankees/Dodgers fight over Harper. The Red Sox are going to add a bigger bat, but both Hosmer and Martinez are still on the FA market and that has turned into a buyers market with the Yankees and Dodgers sitting out. The Luxury Tax penalties are working and the FA market has saturated this year. This is clearly a 1 year thing. Next year is "Can the White Sox sign Machado before there's a loser in the Harper sweepstakes?", and then that will open some floodgates. I agree the luxury tax is working. I like that point. I hope this establishes a nice steady cycle of teams going from rebuilding>competing>super team>tear down>rebuilding. If the super teams get stacked, who do teams trade with if they want retool? Not saying this is correct or that it is going to end up being like this...I just hope it doesn't.
  19. I wonder if this becomes an era of 6 or so super teams every year, then does that hurt the trade market? Once the super teams have what they need are the rebuilding teams really going to be casting off prospects for Chris Archers? Maybe adding more wild cards would help that.
  20. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) I don't want to trade Giolito under any circumstances this offseason because I have a sneaky suspicion that he's going to come into spring training throwing 95+ again. He had to rebuild his delivery from scratch after the Nationals messed with it, and I'd imagine that most of the kid's performance in AAA/loss of velocity was due to gaining new muscle memory and repeating his delivery. I find it hard to believe that he has just magically lost 5 mph off his fastball with no injury reported, therefore I think that after a season of the kid gaining comfort with his delivery again, the velocity will return. If it does, he's right there with Kopech and Hansen for stud ace potential. My lady is in trouble tonight with the stiffy this post just gave me. Love the idea of that velo returning. Mercy
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) Plant me firmly in the "we need at least another year of in house evaluations before we go off making any big moves" crowd. I feel that way mainly because of Hansen. He could legitamately be the #1 prospect in baseball by mid season. Him as part of a package is selling extremely low on him at this point. Unless the Sox feel wuite differently and the time to sell high is now.
  22. Yea I wasn't advocating for doing this, mercy. We're just the only team with enough bullets to fire the shot and still have powder left. The shot heard round the world!
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) So, while dealing for Trout, the actual issue is not necessarily that you have to put a fair deal together for Trout. The White Sox could do that with their top 3 prospects and an additional solid piece. We could do that, but that is not the only thing that matters right now. The consideration no one has mentioned yet is Ohtani. The LAA just signed potentially the largest bargain on the free agent market. A guy who will fill a bunch of seats and could well push them into the playoffs if he's everything promised, and he signed with them for like $3 million. So, do you want to tell me, honestly, that the Angels made their pitch to him without saying anything about "We have the best player in baseball in center field" or "We're a playoff team if we add you to our pitching staff and DH slot"? I don't believe that. Which means that, if the Angels did trade Trout, I have to say "How do the Angels do that without hurting their big league team"? That's a huge challenge for the White Sox, it'd be a huge challenge for the White Sox if they still had Sale. So, I have to start with the big leaguers. Abreu and Garcia. These are guys who maybe can contribute to the Halos winning right now. They're not perfect roster fits, but they can win games right now. Then I have to give 2 pitchers who can make the Angels better this year. Giolito and Lopez have to go. That's the place the Angels could do such a move thinking "This will make us better right now". Then the final piece has to be someone who can fit into CF right now. I'm not sure Moncada can do this. I'm not sure Anderson can do this. But they've got to gamble on one of them - Moncada or Anderson, as able to take over CF right now and not be a total disaster. Given the choice? Moncada, Lopez, Giolito, Abreu, Garcia. Nice post. I think the Halos accept that deal, maybe. The money seems about equal and the WAR per year seems around 10. Believe it or not that's a fair deal to me. But does trading for Trout require a bit more overpay for PR? Nicely done though. And that still somehow leaves us with: Infield: Delmonico 1B Sanchez 2B Anderson SS Davidson/Burger 3B Outfield: Rutherford Jimenez Trout Cordell Engel Tilson Call Pitching: Rodon Hansen Kopech Dunning Cease Guerrero Stephens Etc. The Ohtani point of yours might actually allow us to keep Kopech/Jimenez Crazy. Thanks for playing the game.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) In what world are the Sox loaded with right handed pitching? This one. Earth
  25. With all these teams leaking "The White Sox have shown interest" to drive up offers, it seems like we can trade for anybody. Even Mike Trout?? What would your package look like? Is it safe to say we have to trade 10 WAR per year PLUS an added 5 WAR for the PR hit to the Angels?
